Book excerpt: This issue of the 'philosophy of the city' includes articles by scholars on a range of human sciences, from media theory to aesthetics and architectural theory. Philosophy, social ontology, cultural anthropology, aesthetics, digital hermeneutics, media theory, cognitive science: these are just some of the disciplines that contribute to the philosophy of the city. This variety of approaches doesn't necessarily result in a chaotic mix. Many of the included forms of discourse belong to the same episteme, which means there are many connections and overlaps. This is true both in the literatures of reference and in the ways of answering the question of what 'the city' is. Secondly, the texts don't focus on the city itself, but on those who live in, design, imagine and think about it. Thirdly, because these texts create a place where different ideas can live together. This is like a city, where ideas change, are built on and then rebuilt. This is what Wittgenstein wrote about in his Philosophical Investigations.

Book Synopsis La città della post-produzione by : Sara Marini
Download or read book La città della post-produzione written by Sara Marini and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2014-02-20 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Note oltre la realtà. Con questo terzo approfondimento su La città della post-produzione si chiude un ipotetico trittico dedicato all’architettura del progetto contemporaneo.

Book Synopsis La Città Del Sole by : Tommaso Campanella
Download or read book La Città Del Sole written by Tommaso Campanella and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1981-09-25 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among Renaissance utopias, The City of the Sun is perhaps second in importance only to More's more famous work. There are striking similarities between Campanella's utopia and More's, but also striking differences which reflect both changed historical circumstances and the highly original nature of Campanella's thought. La citt del sole is one of many books written by Tommaso Campanella-philosopher, scientist, astrologer, and poet-while imprisoned in Naples for his part in rebellion against the Spanish and ecclesiastical authorities who ruled his native Calabria. This first faithful and complete English translation by Daniel J. Donno is presented opposite the critically established Itaion text, with essential explanatory notes and an introductory essay. Students of Italian culture, of the history of science, and of political, philosophical, and religious thought will welcome the publication of this authoritative edition of Campanella's best-known work.

Book Synopsis The Co-Housing Phenomenon by : Emanuele Giorgi
Download or read book The Co-Housing Phenomenon written by Emanuele Giorgi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-28 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents 50 case studies of contemporary co-housing projects spread all over the world to show how communities of shared living have become a global phenomenon that can serve as a tool to promote social and urban sustainability. By presenting evidence that shared housing experiences are capable of revitalizing sterile urban fabrics and promoting social sustainable practices, the volume situates co-housing experiences as microscale responses to the macroscale challenges posed by environmental degradation and the decline of communitarian ways of living. The volume also reviews the most famous typologies of shared living in different parts of the world across human history. By analyzing historical experiences in different regions of Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania, the author shows that living together is part of a historical culture of sharing that is being rediscovered all over the world by people who activate public spaces, work in shared offices or live in contractual communities. The Co-Housing Phenomenon – Environmental Alliance in Times of Changes will be of interest to both professionals and scholars involved in urban design, urban planning and architecture, especially those in the field of sustainable urbanism. It will also be a valuable resource for public agents and civil society organizations dealing with housing, social, environmental and sustainability policies.
Download or read book Ardeth #01 (I - 2017) written by AA.VV. and published by Rosenberg & Sellier. This book was released on 2017-08-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike the many magazines that revolve around the architectural world, Ardeth concerns neither with outcomes (architecture) nor with the authors (architects). Ardeth concerns instead with their operational work, i.e. projects. The shift from subjects (their good intentions, as taught in Universities and reclaimed in the profession) to objects (the products of design, at work within the social system that contains them) engenders an analytical and falsifiable elaboration of the complex mechanisms that an open practice such as design involves. Through a process of disciplinary redefinition, Ardeth explores the falsifiability of design hypotheses as the object that allows the project to scientifically confront errors and approximations.
