Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Ethics, Corporate Ethics, grade: 2,0, University of Augsburg, language: English, abstract: This essay is concerned with the empirical question whether Corporate Social Responsibility of Multinational Companies has an impact on its financial performance. Currently, the widely spread debate about the importance of responsible and sustainable behavior of firms leads to different positions in the business world and requires explicit generally excepted answers. The multitude of already existing studies shows that it is almost impossible to find one commonly accepted definition and one perfectly fitting level of CSR. This study works out two widely accepted measures of CSR and its relation to financial performance in the context of a company ́s reputation. The results of these studies show that a positive relation between social and environmental awareness and the accounting-based financial performance of a company do in fact exist. By using data from already analyzed meta-studies, the phenomenon can be explained by the importance of reputation in today ́s business world.

Book excerpt: Reading these various non-technical articles is undeniably valuable for any person (teachers, executives, students) who is concerned about the behaviour of major companies managers in the context of globalisation and economy liberalisation. Gestion 2000 A profoundly important book for scholars and leaders alike that makes a vital timely contribution to the behavioral perspectives on leadership and governance. Doh and Stumpf, along with their world-renowned contributors, apply solidly anchored academic wisdom to offer fresh ideas on restoring faith in the integrity of American enterprise. Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Yale School of Management, President and CEO, Chief Executive Leadership Institute and author of Leadership and Governance From The Inside Out Ethics, social responsibility, leadership, governance. These terms are heard in the classroom, in the boardroom, and viewed on the front page of newspapers and magazines. Yet serious attention to the relationships among these concepts is lacking. Although commitments to leadership, ethics, and social responsibility are evident, individuals and companies are falling short in combining these duties into policies and cultures that guide behavior and decisions. The missing element is a broad-based and integrated approach to responsible leadership and governance. This volume provides the leading thinking on these issues and includes a discussion of emerging areas that require future attention. The contributors leading scholars in the fields of leadership, governance and social responsibility summarize the state of the literature, identify complementary insights and perspectives, discuss areas of conflict and disagreement, and include a provocative and stimulating agenda for further investigation. They point up practical consequences of these perspectives in light of developments that have exposed the shortcomings in practice. Several contributors focus specifically on the challenges faced by global companies in developing and maintaining leadership and governance practices that are responsive to different national institutional and cultural settings. Thorough coverage and insightful discussion make this an essential reference for scholars and students of leadership, corporate responsibility and professional ethics, as well as for all those directly responsible for establishing the ethical codes and practices of their organizations.

Thus, the author points out the need to manage reputation, which, due to its complex nature and multidimensional character, is a serious and difficult challenge. The author develops a strategic model for family business reputation management. The book presents the review, systematization and synthesis of views on the notion of reputation and its role in building company value, the determinants of reputation; the identification of the characteristics and distinguishing factors of family businesses, areas of reputation building and resources involved in family business reputation building processes; and the description of determinants, components and processes in the field of corporate reputation management, and the identification of key links between them. It also identifies the key elements of the concept of family business reputation management and the relationship between them and practical recommendations for the use of reputation management concepts in improving the functioning of family businesses. The developed model can undoubtedly be seen as a pioneering contribution to research into the competitiveness of enterprises. The book will therefore be useful to researchers, students and managers who are interested in decision-making in family businesses, entrepreneurship and small business management, and leadership studies.
