Book excerpt: La segmentation d'image est une étape primordiale dans tout processus d'interprétation d'images. Les modèles déformables sont actuellement des approches de segmentation très populaires et sont toujours en plein évolution. Ils sont largement utilisés dans de nombreux domaines. Dans le cadre de cette thèse, notre intérêt s'est porté dans un premier lieu, à la comparaison qualitative et quantitative des performances de huit modèles déformables, représentatifs de l'état de l'art actuel du domaine. L'étude comparative a porté sur des images de synthèse et sur des images réelles. Nous avons pris le soin de construire une base d'images de synthèse dont chacune présentant une difficulté typique, en simulant une dégradation particulière. Cela permet l'étude et l'analyse des qualités, des faiblesses et des limitations d'une approche donnée. Les résultats de comparaison sont une aide précieuse aux utilisateurs qu'en au choix d'un algorithme donné pour résoudre une problématique particulière de segmentation. Dans un second temps, nous avons proposé des améliorations de deux des modèles étudiés afin de pallier à certaines de leurs limitations. Ainsi nous avons proposé une modification de la fonction de détection de contour pour permettre au modèle de Li de segmenter avec succès des objets avec des angles très aigus et une modification majeur de la prise en compte de l'a priori de forme dans le modèle de Tsai. En effet, notre approche possède un compromis entre l'a priori et le terme d'attache aux données, donnant ainsi plus de flexibilité d'une part, et utilise l'ACP à noyau pour l'apprentissage et la modélisation de l'a priori de forme, offrant ainsi une augmentation non négligeable de l'impact de la prise en compte de cette a priori sur le résultat de la segmentation d'autre part.

Nous exposons tout d'abord diverses approches de classifications pixellaires non supervisées et supervisées et montrerons l'importance du choix de l'espace couleur. Nous exploitons ensuite la complémentarité qu'il peut exister entre les classifieurs en proposant une méthode de combinaison de classifications pixellaires tenant compte du nombre de classifieurs combinés et de l'information de voisinage. Enfin, nous intégrons ces méthodes dans une approche morphologique basée sur une ligne de partage des eaux couleur et évaluons les résultats à l'aide d'une méthode d'évaluation adaptée à la cytologie. Dans un contexte plus général, la deuxième partie de ce travail traite de la segmentation d'images couleur par hiérarchie de partitions. Nous présentons tout d'abord un nouveau critère connectif puis une approche de création de hiérarchie de partitions permettant de simplifier ou de segmenter une image rapidement. Nous nous intéressons ensuite à la morphologie mathématique couleur et proposerons une approche par graphe permettant de déterminer l'infimum et le suprémum d'un ensemble de vecteurs couleur, ce qui implique une nouvelle formulation de l'algorithme du waterfall. Enfin, nous définissons une fonction d'énergie qui peut servir à déterminer automatiquement le meilleur niveau d'une hiérarchie de partitions ou bien comme critère de terminaison dans un processus de fusion de régions par descente d'énergie.

Book excerpt: L'objectif de cette thèse est la quantification des phases de clinker de ciment par analyse d'images couleur issues d'un microscope optique. La segmentation des cristaux a été abordée par une double démarche adaptée aux contraintes industrielles : La première porte sur une méthode originale de calcul du gradient couleur dans le cas des images acquises avec une camera couleur standard mono-CCD. Ces images multi-spectrales ont la particularité de présenter une résolution réduite des composantes couleur par rapport à celle de la luminosité. L'adaptation d'une approche multi-échelle et une pondération des composantes sont intégrée dans un nouvel opérateur de gradient couleur multi-échelle (GCM). Les études comparatives avec des techniques classiques, effectuées dans le cadre de la détection des contours, montrent la contribution du GCM. Le deuxième modèle original concerne la segmentation d'images par un contour déformable de type "ballon". Notre modèle stabilise la déformation par normalisation de la longueur du contour actif avant chaque itération. Ceci permet des grandes déformations du contour sans requérir le ré-échantillonnage de la courbe, étape nécessaire dans l’approche classique. L’algorithme est plus rapide et plus robuste et autorise un contour initial loin du contour final.Le logiciel développé en partenariat avec la société Lafarge Ciments intègre ces différentes techniques de traitement d'image couleur : Pré-traitement des images, segmentation par approche contour effectuée à l'aide du GCM des images microscopiques couleur, une fermeture des contours. Les régions homogènes ainsi segmentées, sont ensuite classifiées grâce à des paramètres de texture et de couleur. Le système fourni une quantification des trois phases principales du clinker et une analyse statistique des dimensions des cristaux. Il remplace une mesure manuelle longue et fastidieuse et permet d’augmenter la qualité de la fabrication par des mesures plus fréquentes en sortie du four à ciment.
