Book Synopsis Biological Magnetic Resonance by : Lawrence Berliner
Download or read book Biological Magnetic Resonance written by Lawrence Berliner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological magnetic resonance (NMR and EPR) is a rapidly expanding area of research with much activity in most universities and research institutions. International conferences are held biennially with an increasing number of participants. With the introduction of sophisticated and continuously im proving instrumentation, biological magnetic resonance is approaching the state of a common physical method in biochemical, biomedical, and bio logical research. The lack of monograpbs on the subject had been con spicuous for a long time. This gap started to close only recently. However, because of the rapid expansion and intensive research, many texts are dated by the time of their appearance. Therefore we have undertaken the editing of a series that is intended to provide the practicing chemist, biochemist, or biologist with the advances and progress in selected contemporary topics. In seeking to make the series as authoritative as possible, we have invited authors who have not only made significant contributions but who are also currently active in their fields. We hope that their expertise as well as their first hand experience as reflected in the chapters of this volume will be of benefit to the reader, inter alia, in planning his own experiments and in critically evaluating the current literature.

Download or read book ESR Spectroscopy in Membrane Biophysics written by Marcus A. Hemminga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-02-13 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from a comprehensive quantum mechanical description, this book introduces the optical (IR, Raman, UV/Vis, CD, fluorescence and laser spectroscopy) and magnetic resonance (1D and 2D-NMR, ESR) techniques. The book offers a timely review of the increasing interest in using spin-label ESR as an alternative structural technique for NMR or X-ray diffraction. Future aspects are treated as well, but only as an illustration of the progress of ESR in this field.
Book Synopsis Synthetic Chemistry of Stable Nitroxides by : L. B. Volodarsky
Download or read book Synthetic Chemistry of Stable Nitroxides written by L. B. Volodarsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-10-25 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book is devoted to covering the synthetic aspects of nitroxide chemistry. The problems of application and physicochemical properties of nitroxides are considered in the context of the choice of necessary radical structures, convenient precursors, and strategy of the synthesis. The book offers comparisons of the concrete classes of nitroxides to help reveal the structural peculiarities and synthetic abilities of compounds of different classes. It also summarizes data on the magneto-structural correlation for the metal complexes with 3-imidazoline nitroxides and considers the ways in which the molecular design of 2- and 3-dimensional heterospin compounds is capable of magnetic phase transfer in a ferromagnetic state. The book will be a significant reference for chemists, biochemists, spectroscopists, and other users of nitroxides, spin labels, probes, and paramagnetic ligands.
Book Synopsis Principles of Pulse Electron Paramagnetic Resonance by : Arthur Schweiger
Download or read book Principles of Pulse Electron Paramagnetic Resonance written by Arthur Schweiger and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulse EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) is one of the newest and most widely used techniques for examining the structure, function and dynamics of biological systems and synthetic materials. Until now, however, there has been no single text dedicated to this growing area of research. This text addresses the need for a comprehensive overview of Pulse EPR. The book covers the basic theory of pulse EPR, as well as a description and critical evaluation of the existing and emerging methods needed for selecting and conducting the proper experiment and analyzing the results. This is an indispensable reference for all scientists who need a thorough grounding in this increasingly popular field of spectroscopy.

Book Synopsis Distance Measurements in Biological Systems by EPR by : Lawrence Berliner
Download or read book Distance Measurements in Biological Systems by EPR written by Lawrence Berliner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-03-31 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distance measurements in biological systems by EPR The foundation for understanding function and dynamics of biological systems is knowledge of their structure. Many experimental methodologies are used for determination of structure, each with special utility. Volumes in this series on Biological Magnetic Resonance emphasize the methods that involve magnetic resonance. This volume seeks to provide a critical evaluation of EPR methods for determining the distances between two unpaired electrons. The editors invited the authors to make this a very practical book, with specific numerical examples of how experimental data is worked up to produce a distance estimate, and realistic assessments of uncertainties and of the range of applicability, along with examples of the power of the technique to answer biological problems. The first chapter is an overview, by two of the editors, of EPR methods to determine distances, with a focus on the range of applicability. The next chapter, also by the Batons, reviews what is known about electron spin relaxation times that are needed in estimating distances between spins or in selecting appropriate temperatures for particular experiments. Albert Beth and Eric Hustedt describe the information about spin-spin interaction that one can obtain by simulating CW EPR line shapes of nitroxyl radicals. The information in fluid solution CW EPR spectra of dual-spin labeled proteins is illustrated by Hassane Mchaourab and Eduardo Perozo.

Book Synopsis Quantitative EPR by : Gareth R. Eaton
Download or read book Quantitative EPR written by Gareth R. Eaton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a growing need in both industrial and academic research to obtain accurate quantitative results from continuous wave (CW) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments. This book describes various sample-related, instrument-related and software-related aspects of obtaining quantitative results from EPR expe- ments. Some speci?c items to be discussed include: selection of a reference standard, resonator considerations (Q, B ,B ), power saturation, sample position- 1 m ing, and ?nally, the blending of all the factors together to provide a calculation model for obtaining an accurate spin concentration of a sample. This book might, at ?rst glance, appear to be a step back from some of the more advanced pulsed methods discussed in recent EPR texts, but actually quantitative “routine CW EPR” is a challenging technique, and requires a thorough understa- ing of the spectrometer and the spin system. Quantitation of CW EPR can be subdivided into two main categories: (1) intensity and (2) magnetic ?eld/mic- wave frequency measurement. Intensity is important for spin counting. Both re- tive intensity quantitation of EPR samples and their absolute spin concentration of samples are often of interest. This information is important for kinetics, mechanism elucidation, and commercial applications where EPR serves as a detection system for free radicals produced in an industrial process. It is also important for the study of magnetic properties. Magnetic ?eld/microwave frequency is important for g and nuclear hyper?ne coupling measurements that re?ect the electronic structure of the radicals or metal ions.
