This book was released on 1994 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kerygma of the Wilderness Traditions in the Hebrew Bible examines biblical writers' use of the wilderness traditions in the books of Exodus and Numbers, Deuteronomy, the Prophets, and the Writings to express their beliefs in God and their understandings of the community's relationship to God. Kerygma is the proclamation of God's actions with the purpose of affirming faith/or appealing to an obedient response from the community. The experiences of the wilderness community, who rebelled and refused to live according to God's purposes, serve as a polemic against disbelief in God and the refusal to embrace Israel's religious heritage. In the Writings, more than in the Prophets, the wilderness traditions are remembered with a notable resemblance to the traditions in Exodus and Numbers, which reflects a heightened interest in the ancient traditions in the closing turbulent period of Israelite history. Recollections of Israel's beginnings in the wilderness address problems associated with faith, obedience, and ultimately, the nature of the Israelite community.
Book Synopsis Kant and the Power of Imagination by : Jane Kneller
Download or read book Kant and the Power of Imagination written by Jane Kneller and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-08 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Jane Kneller focuses on the role of imagination as a creative power in Kant's aesthetics and in his overall philosophical enterprise. She analyzes Kant's account of imaginative freedom and the relation between imaginative free play and human social and moral development, showing various ways in which his aesthetics of disinterested reflection produce moral interests. She situates these aspects of his aesthetic theory within the context of German aesthetics of the eighteenth century, arguing that Kant's contribution is a bridge between early theories of aesthetic moral education and the early Romanticism of the last decade of that century. In so doing, her book brings the two most important German philosophers of Enlightenment and Romanticism, Kant and Novalis, into dialogue. It will be of interest to a wide range of readers in both Kant studies and German philosophy of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Book Synopsis Imagination and Depth in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason by : Bernard Freydberg
Download or read book Imagination and Depth in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason written by Bernard Freydberg and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1994 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason" as undergirded by an everpresent imagination-driven depth, even where least expected (i.e. the Aesthetic, the B Deduction). Imagination as dark faculty of synthesis and as image-maker is disclosed as the seat of logic as well as of aesthetic. Logic and aesthetic are disclosed as abstractions from an originary synthesis which has always already occurred. This originary synthesis, which contains dark, unconscious elements as well as clearer ones, is the focus of the book. The analysis concentrates primarily on the first half of the "Critique," exhibiting the ever-present depth belonging to all human knowing, and reason's conflict with itself when this depth is forgotten.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kant s view of the imagination is surrounded by one of the most salient and obscure discussions onhis critical philosophy. Due to revisions and emendations and a seeming change in doctrine from the first to the third Critique, Kant s considered view of the imagination remains unclear. This collection of essays from Kant scholars illuminates the various treatments of imagination through its development in Kant s critical works. Thereby invaluable research is given on a topic that is now facing new interest amongst philosophers."

Book Synopsis Heidegger’s Interpretation of Kant by : M. Weatherston
Download or read book Heidegger’s Interpretation of Kant written by M. Weatherston and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-10-14 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there any justification for Heidegger's famous 'violence' against Kant's philosophy? An independent assessment of the worth of Heidegger's argument is also made all the more pertinent by the evident misgivings Heidegger had about his interpretation of Kant. We must ask of Heidegger's interpretation of Kant: 1) Is this good Kant? and 2) Is this good Heidegger?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Element is a study of how the power of imagination is, according to Kant, supposed to contribute to cognition. It is meant to be an immanent and a reconstructive endeavor, relying solely on Kant's own resources when he tries to determine what material, faculties, and operations are necessary for cognition of objects. The main discourse is divided into two sections. The first deals with Kant's views concerning the power of imagination as outlined in the A- and B- edition of the Critique of Pure Reason. The second focuses on the power of imagination in the first part of the Critique of Judgment.
Book Synopsis Imagination and Interpretation in Kant by : Rudolf A. Makkreel
Download or read book Imagination and Interpretation in Kant written by Rudolf A. Makkreel and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this illuminating study of Kant's theory of imagination and its role in interpretation, Rudolf A. Makkreel argues against the commonly held notion that Kant's transcendental philosophy is incompatible with hermeneutics. The charge that Kant's foundational philosophy is inadequate to the task of interpretation can be rebutted, explains Makkreel, if we fully understand the role of imagination in his work. In identifying this role, Makkreel also reevaluates the relationship among Kant's discussions of the feeling of life, common sense, and the purposiveness of history.

Book Synopsis Imagination in Kant's Critique of Practical Reason by : Bernard Freydberg
Download or read book Imagination in Kant's Critique of Practical Reason written by Bernard Freydberg and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2005-10-04 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With particular focus on imagination, Bernard Freydberg presents a close reading of Kant's second critique, The Critique of Practical Reason. In an interpretation that is daring as well as rigorous, Freydberg reveals imagination as both its central force and the bridge that links Kant's three critiques. Freydberg's reading offers a powerful challenge to the widespread view that Kant's ethics calls for rigid, self-denying obedience. Here, to the contrary, the search for self-fulfillment becomes an enormously creative endeavor once imagination is understood as the heart of Kantian ethics. Seasoned scholars and newer students will find a surprising and provocative view of Kant's ethics in this straightforward and accessible book.
Book Synopsis Kant's Transcendental Imagination by : G. Banham
Download or read book Kant's Transcendental Imagination written by G. Banham and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-11-10 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role and place of transcendental psychology in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason has been a source of some contention. The acceptance of the notion of transcendental psychology in recent years has been in connection to functionalist views of the mind which has detracted from its metaphysical significance. This work presents a detailed argument for restoring transcendental psychology to a central place in the interpretation of Kant's Analytic, in the process providing a detailed response to more 'austere' analytic readings.

Book Synopsis Kant: Anthropology, Imagination, Freedom by : John Rundell
Download or read book Kant: Anthropology, Imagination, Freedom written by John Rundell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-30 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a new reading of Immanuel Kant’s work, this book interrogates his notions of the imagination and anthropology, identifying these – rather than the problem of reason – as the two central pivoting orientations of his work. Such an approach allows a more complex understanding of his critical-philosophical program to emerge, which includes his accounts of reason, politics and freedom as well as subjectivity and intersubjectivity, or sociabilities. Examining Kant’s theorisation of the complexity of our phenomenological existence, the author explores his transcendental move that includes reason and understanding whilst emphasising the importance of the faculty of the imagination to undergird both, before moving to consider Kant’s pluralised, transcendental notion of freedom. This outstanding book will appeal to scholars with interests in philosophy, politics, anthropology and sociology, working on questions of imagination, reason, subjectivities and human freedom.
Book Synopsis The Conception of the Productive Imagination in the Critique of Pure Reason by : David Antonini
Download or read book The Conception of the Productive Imagination in the Critique of Pure Reason written by David Antonini and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this thesis is to provide an account of productive imagination in Kant's Critique of Pure Reason using Heidegger's interpretation in Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics. Kant's account of productive imagination largely remains in the context of his own project to establish the conditions for the possibility of experience which can ground a theory of knowledge. Thus, Kant's project can largely be read as a work of epistemology leaving an account of experience that is limited to knowledge of empirical objects. Therefore, in turning to Heidegger, I seek to provide an account of experience in the Critique that is not merely epistemic. Rather, in focusing on productive imagination in the Critique, as Heidegger has, one can obtain an account of experience that is revelatory of human finitude. Therefore, the thesis proceeds as follows. First, I offer an introduction providing proper context for the project. In Chapter 1, I offer a reading of both the A and B deductions from Kant's Critique of Pure Reason in order to establish the role and limits of productive imagination. Chapters 2 and 3 follow Heidegger through a large section of Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics in order to highlight the role of productive imagination and to move beyond the limits present in Kant's account. Lastly, I offer a conclusion.
