Book excerpt: Many moms struggle with finding time to spend with God - is it even possible, between diaper changes, carpools, meals and messes? It is possible, if only moms could connect with their Creator and vacuum cereal out of the carseat at the same time. Megan Breedlove, a stay-at-home mom of four energetic little ones, is convinced it can be done . . . and Manna for Moms is a daily devotional that shows moms how. One of the main ways God speaks to His children is through His calling on their lives. That means that moms - who have a high and holy calling, indeed - can hear God's voice and respond to Him even as they carry out the daily tasks of mothering their children. Each devotion included in Manna for Moms is encouragement and inspiration to face every hectic day with an open heart, expecting God to reveal Himself in the midst of whatever chaos arises! There are also tips and suggestions for readers to stay alert for God's teaching in their interactions with their children. Instead of struggling to find time with God, moms can invite Him into every precious moment.

Book excerpt: Jim's first few years were a delight; he was the love of my life. One of my fondest memories was when we had lunch together - he talked, I listened. I memorized his teeth, so clean and perfect, in his beautiful little face. However, there were times when he scared me. When he did not get his own way, he would kick and scream; during those times he would become as strong as a grown man but he was not yet three. I saw something in his eyes that I can only describe as Satanic. He also began to say horrible words. I would often ask the physicians about my anxieties. They would dismiss it as an overprotective mother. We were in Florida, our daughters were suffering, and I had no time for them. I sought release in my Journal. God became my constant companion. We did not know that we were raising a schizophrenic child. Claudia Blackstone was born and raised in Caribou, Maine and studied for her RN in Bangor, Maine, graduating in 1958. While in Bangor, she met, and eventually married, Dick McClaine, who was at that time a USAF Navigator stationed at Dow AFB in Bangor. Soon after their wedding they moved to California for Dick's next assignment. Their two daughters were born in California. In 1968 Dick was transferred to Hickam AFB in Hawaii, and it was during this assignment that they adopted their son, Jim. They were not perfect parents but the Lord knew that they would "hang in there." God, without a doubt, had a perfect plan for them and for their son. God also kept His promise for their daughters, as stated in Psalms 37:25. Claudia and Dick will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in March 2009.

Book excerpt: I should have been at the tree farm, fighting with my sister over the perfect tree. I missed out on the big game and the most recent school dance. Why? Because I didn't have control of when I could go to the bathroom. So I was stuck at home with Planet of the Apes. I hate that movie.' High school is hard enough without worrying about your reputation, but teen embarrassment reaches new levels for Wayne J. Street, Jr. What starts as severe stomach cramps quickly sidelines the tennis standout for fear of losing control of more than just his serve. Crippled with pain and embarrassment, he conceals his struggles until his diminishing frame threatens to expel the truth. Wayne has officially joined the four thousand males diagnosed with Crohn's disease each year. By the age of twenty-five, he will also face a cancer that would put fear into any man. But with the stamina and determination of a true athlete, Wayne embarks on a doctor's visit that bruises more than his ego. Written with Wayne's wit and dry humor, what could easily be a sob story of agonizing treatments quickly evolves into a story toned with personality and perseverance. Friends and family rally around Wayne as he makes his amazing journey from a naive teen to death bed to proud father, and he learns what doesn't kill him, really does make him stronger. Author Wayne J. Street, Jr. resides in Cotati, California, with his wife, Tiffany, and their son, William. He is a seven-year survivor of testicular cancer and has battled Crohn's disease for the past fourteen years. He is still playing tennis."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fans of Jennette McCurdy’s I’m Glad My Mom Died will root for Bridey Thelen-Heidel as she struggles to unshackle herself from her mother’s chaos in this triumphant debut memoir. Bridey is tethered to her mom’s addiction to dangerous men who park their Harley-Davidsons in the house and kick holes in all their doors. Raised to be her mother’s keeper, rescuer, and punching bag, Bridey gets used to stuffing her life into black trash bags, hauling them between Alaska and California, and changing schools every time her mom moves in a new monster—or runs away from one. Desperately seeking the normal life she’s observed in sitcoms and her friends’ families, Bridey earns her way into a fancy, private college, where she tries to forget who she is—until her mom calls with a threat that drops Bridey to her knees. Watching doctors and police interrogate her mother at the hospital, Bridey realizes her mom has become a monster herself . . . and she doesn’t want to be saved. But Bridey does. Bright Eyes is about the indomitable spirit of a young girl forced to be brave, required to be resilient, and conditioned to be optimistic, and how she ultimately uses the same traits that helped her to survive her mother’s chaos to create her own happily-ever-after.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the star of USA reality show The Radkes and creator of the viral "Red Ribbon Week" video, this is a hilarious and inspiring story of finding self-confidence in a world of naysayers. My name is Melissa Radke, and there is a very real chance you have no idea who I am or why I wrote a book. But admit it, you're curious! Even though millions of people seem to like watching my videos and The Radkes TV show bemoaning the trials of parenting, marriage, French braiding, faith, and living life as an anti-aging female, you may still be wondering who let me write a book. I mean, books are written by people who say things like, "I was having a root canal and I literally died in the chair. I saw heaven. Also, when I came back to earth I could speak Mandarin." Yeah, that didn't happen to me. I wrote this book because when I turned 41 I made the decision to live brave, bolder, and freer. I thought our lives were supposed to change when we turned 40. But mine changed when I turned 41 and I set out to prove that it wasn't too late for me. And maybe, just maybe, reading about my journey to find my sense of self-worth will help you rightfully believe in yours. This book is about how all the years of my life led up to the one that changed it. So, cut a big slice and raise a fork... Here's to bravery. Here's to courage. Here's to cake. (And not the crappy kind, like carrot.)

Book excerpt: Fans of Thirteen Reasons Why, Running with Scissors, and Girl, Interrupted will be entranced by this remarkable true story of teenage despair and recovery. “[The Burn Journals] describes a particular kind of youthful male desolation better than it has ever been described before, by anyone.” —Andrew Solomon, author of The Noonday Demon In 1991, fourteen-year-old Brent Runyon came home from school, doused his bathrobe in gasoline, put it on, and lit a match. He suffered third-degree burns over 85% of his body and spent the next year recovering in hospitals and rehab facilities. During that year of physical recovery, Runyon began to question what he’d done, undertaking the complicated journey from near-death back to high school, and from suicide back to the emotional mainstream of life.
