Book excerpt: A collection of stories ranging from sweet to spicy, about men loving and lusting, struggling and pining. In Breaking the Rules, Greg is getting back on his feet after overcoming cancer, and asks his crush to go with him to a photoshoot for moral support ... and a chance to act on his feelings. Cherry Bomb is about Carl, the only openly gay member of a frat, and his brothers have played a prank on him by sending him alone to a gay bar with a twist. In Love with Zeus's Son forces Eros to help his best friend learn whether or not he has a soul mate, but learning the answer may well break the heart of the god of love. Love and Cake brings sweet treats and sweet surprises when Rowan agrees to make cupcakes for his sister's engagement party. In Lover's Lane, Danny runs afoul of some greasers and is saved by his brother's best friend, who takes him to Lovers Lane to hide ... and reveals some intriguing things Danny never expected. Luck of the Irish brings good fortune to Jamie, who is more than happy to spread the joy around, especially to the best friend he's secretly in love with. Nurse Levi has heard it all about being a male nurse, and he has no time for stereotypes and clichés. Not until a hot, cute fireman shows up suffering wounds from saving a kitten, anyway. And in Will You Be the Wolf to My Captain Dee?, a day of cosplaying his favourite character goes better than Bennett could have ever imagined.

Book Synopsis Chicanas and Chicanos in School by : Marcos Pizarro
Download or read book Chicanas and Chicanos in School written by Marcos Pizarro and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2009-06-03 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By any measure of test scores and graduation rates, public schools are failing to educate a large percentage of Chicana/o youth. But despite years of analysis of this failure, no consensus has been reached as to how to realistically address it. Taking a new approach to these issues, Marcos Pizarro goes directly to Chicana/o students in both urban and rural school districts to ask what their school experiences are really like, how teachers and administrators support or thwart their educational aspirations, and how schools could better serve their Chicana/o students. In this accessible, from-the-trenches account of the Chicana/o school experience, Marcos Pizarro makes the case that racial identity formation is the crucial variable in Chicana/o students' success or failure in school. He draws on the insights of students in East Los Angeles and rural Washington State, as well as years of research and activism in public education, to demonstrate that Chicana/o students face the daunting challenge of forming a positive sense of racial identity within an educational system that unintentionally yet consistently holds them to low standards because of their race. From his analysis of this systemic problem, he develops a model for understanding the process of racialization and for empowering Chicana/o students to succeed in school that can be used by teachers, school administrators, parents, community members, and students themselves.

Book Synopsis What Do You Call It? by : Gbontwi Anyetei
Download or read book What Do You Call It? written by Gbontwi Anyetei and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-09-20 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? London, England. The year two-thousand and whatever. The far right political group the British National Front (BNF) are gaining massive popularity and are expected to make huge inroads into British mainstream in the next general election. A secret agency semi-attached to the government cannot allow this to happen. To have a right wing group anywhere near government would make Britain an international laughing stock and the British like being taken seriously. The agency gets to work. Their plan is to arrange to allow some of BNF's lowest and stupidest members to kill an innocent Black youth. It should be as bloody, violent but most importantly be as public as possible. It's not the kind of operation that they like to perform on British home soil but `needs must' and all that. It shouldn't be too difficult and they don't anticipate any problems. They just need to choose a Black youth. Any youth will do. It's not personal, it's just politics. Kob Armah is the Black youth they mistakenly choose. This story is about him. Kob (for short or Benjamin Kobla Nii-Armah for long) doesn't care about British politics. He has enough Londoneze African problems of his own. He survives the attack in one piece. The same cannot be said about two of his attackers. Kob chooses to hide in Ghana to until things cool off...but that's where his enemies follow him. All of them. WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? It's the Crime Comedy story that capers from London to Accra then back to London. It's got a cool inner-city star, beautiful women, urban to tropical locations, regular bad-guys, secret bad-guys, races, car chases, white van chases, knives, guns... and Supermalt. What more could you ask for?
