Download or read book The Seven Pillars of Fatherhood written by Donald H. Wood Ph.D and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-05 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written about the role of a good father and the importance of a father in his children’s lives. However, in my opinion, little if any has been written about what are the fundamental attributes that make up a good or, what I like to call, a real father. I think that these fundamental attributes can be summed up with seven key traits or pillars as I like to refer to them. These fundamental truths or attributes known as the seven pillars (Ps) of fatherhood encompass the following key attributes: P1: Pilot. A real father is a man who knows how to lead (navigate) his children and family through the storms of life. P2: Provider. A real father is able to provide for his children with adequate shelter, food, and clothing. P3: Protector. A real father knows how to protect his children from the predators of life. P4: Preparer. A real father knows how to prepare and teach his children how to be self-sufficient and independent. P5: Praise. A real father knows how to instill self-esteem in his children through encouragement, support, and affirmation. P6: Patience. A real father is meek and slow to anger. He knows the difference between alienating his children and how to firmly direct his children in the right direction. P7: Prays. A real father knows how to be a prayer warrior on behalf of his children. By embracing and utilizing the seven pillars of fatherhood, all fathers or father figures will reap the benefits of successfully raising children who will be ready to take on the challenges of life. The way in which a man fathers his children can mean the difference between him finding great joy from his children in the future or great sorrow.

Book excerpt: When your past collides with your present and you wind up broken, so you walk away, lest you break everyone else. Rock guitarist Spook Mortensen has spent a decade hiding from his traumatic past. Now everyone knows his secrets, and their judgement leaves him broken inside and out. To avoid destroying everything that matters to him, Spook leaves both Black Halo and the woman he loves. But there’s no running from the demons that lurk in the darkest corners of your soul, because they hitch a ride with you wherever you run. There doesn’t seem to be a path out of the darkness, until the band’s irresistible, sex-addicted, bad boy frontman swoops in determined to stage an intervention. Xane’s prepared to do whatever it takes, no matter the sacrifice, to mend the hole in Spook’s heart and ensure he returns to where he belongs – Allegra Hutton’s arms and the Black Halo line-up. What neither of them expects is how intense the bond between them will become. Refrain is an angsty, spicy, heart-wrenching rockstar romance with flawed characters, broken and damaged souls, intense friendships, all the feels, and a lot of bed sharing. It’s complicated… okay? Download or read book How to Do Nothing written by Jenny Odell and published by Melville House. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ** A New York Times Bestseller ** NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY: Time • The New Yorker • NPR • GQ • Elle • Vulture • Fortune • Boing Boing • The Irish Times • The New York Public Library • The Brooklyn Public Library "A complex, smart and ambitious book that at first reads like a self-help manual, then blossoms into a wide-ranging political manifesto."—Jonah Engel Bromwich, The New York Times Book Review One of President Barack Obama's "Favorite Books of 2019" Porchlight's Personal Development & Human Behavior Book of the Year In a world where addictive technology is designed to buy and sell our attention, and our value is determined by our 24/7 data productivity, it can seem impossible to escape. But in this inspiring field guide to dropping out of the attention economy, artist and critic Jenny Odell shows us how we can still win back our lives. Odell sees our attention as the most precious—and overdrawn—resource we have. And we must actively and continuously choose how we use it. We might not spend it on things that capitalism has deemed important … but once we can start paying a new kind of attention, she writes, we can undertake bolder forms of political action, reimagine humankind’s role in the environment, and arrive at more meaningful understandings of happiness and progress. Far from the simple anti-technology screed, or the back-to-nature meditation we read so often, How to do Nothing is an action plan for thinking outside of capitalist narratives of efficiency and techno-determinism. Provocative, timely, and utterly persuasive, this book will change how you see your place in our world.
Book Synopsis Unlearning Silence by : Elaine Lin Hering
Download or read book Unlearning Silence written by Elaine Lin Hering and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER "Unlearning Silence is the book I wish I had when I started my career….This book is going to change the workplace for the better."—Pooja Lakshmin MD, psychiatrist & best-selling author of Real Self-Care “A necessary read…Unlearning Silence offers an opportunity and tools to change things within and around us – for ourselves and those we love.” —Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone A paradigm-shifting book looking at the pervasive influence of silence and how we can begin to dismantle it in order to find our voices at home and at work Having a seat at the table doesn’t mean that your voice is actually welcome. Knowing something is wrong doesn't mean it's easy to speak up. In fact, there are incentives for many of us to stay silent. Why speak up if you know that it won’t be received well, and in fact, often makes things worse? In Unlearning Silence, Hering explores how we’ve learned to be silent, how we’ve benefited from silence, how we’ve silenced other people—and how we might choose another way. She teaches how to recognize and unlearn unconscious patterns so we can make more intentional choices about how we want to show up at home and at work. Only by unlearning silence can we more fully unleash talent, speak our minds, and be more complete versions of ourselves… and help other people do the same. With compassion, clarity, and understanding, Hering guides readers through real-life examples and offers a concrete road map for doing this vital and challenging work.
