Book Synopsis Illusions of the Heart by : Paul Breer
Download or read book Illusions of the Heart written by Paul Breer and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illusions of the Heart contains two short stories, each revolving around the theme of internet romance. In Residues of Love two women explore the farthest reaches of intimacy in the privacy of an online chat room. Je T' Adore tells the story of a man who falls hopelessly in love with a woman who wants nothing to do sexually with the opposite sex. Both tales can be read on a variety of levels. For the philosophically inclined they raise the age-old issue of appearance versus reality, an issue explored a century ago by Pirandello in his Six Characters in Search of an Author. For readers of a sociological bent, the two stories speak to the way we increasingly relate to each other in a fragmented world where community ties are replaced by the anonymity of computer screens and keyboards. Still others will read the stories as straight-forward tales of romance, both tragic and comic. Given their explicit nature, the erotic scenes may offend readers still clinging to Victorian sensibilities. For those less faint of heart, they can be seen as a voluptuous exploration of love-making in a setting (the internet) where conventional restraints yield to the primacy of desire. In this respect the stories properly belong to that literary tradition, primarily French, where erotica is raised to the level of fine art.
Book Synopsis The Illusion of Money by : Kyle Cease
Download or read book The Illusion of Money written by Kyle Cease and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times best-selling author and comedian-turned-motivational speaker, Kyle Cease, shows how your obsession with money is actually preventing you from living the life of your dreams. "I can't afford that." "Now's not the right time . . . I need to save up." "Quit my job? Are you nuts?!" Sound familiar? Money is one of the biggest excuses we make to not go after what we really want. Our fixation with money--the desire for more of it, and the fear of not having enough of it--is often really just a longing to feel safe. But this obsession with money is coming at a much bigger cost: our sanity, our creativity, our freedom, and our ability to step into our true power. This book is about eliminating the need to seek safety through the illusion of money, and learning to see ourselves for the perfection that we are--so that we can bring our gifts to the world in an authentic way, and allow ourselves to receive massive, true abundance as a result. Kyle Cease has heard excuses like the ones above countless times at his live events, and he has shown people how to completely break through them. In The Illusion of Money, he shares his own experiences as well as practical tools to help readers understand their ingrained beliefs and attachments to money, and how they can tap into our infinite assets and talents. "After 25 years as a successful comedian, actor, transformational speaker, author and junior-league amateur bowler, I've experienced many times how chasing money is not an effective way to create an abundant and fulfilling life. The most alive I've ever felt was after I left my comedy career at its peak to become a transformational speaker. I left tons of guaranteed money and so-called security for a complete unknown. It was terrifying--but what was on the other side of that terror was a completely different life that is not only more abundant financially, but has more freedom, more ease, more passion, more impact and more joy." -- Kyle Cease

Book Synopsis Illusions of a Love Story by : Nadia Aidan
Download or read book Illusions of a Love Story written by Nadia Aidan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SHE FALLS INTO THE DEPTHS OF SILENTNESS She wrote her love story and finally let it go. She set it in the hands of fate; which is something one does not often do. No words need to be followed, for those words will not mean anything in a realm of time that just stands still. Living and learning from the blindness of the unknown, she followed and trusted the spirits to bring the guidance of teachings into her reality. She remembers coming to a place many years ago, finding the strength within after all the pain and suffering that occurred. Letting go of all internally and externally, to do what she came here to do. She listened to and believed in her guidance to have a conversation with one-which changed the person she used to be into the person she needed to be. The words that follow are only the words she feels and knows in her heart. She learned from the one the most powerful lessons in reality: basing happiness on another, attachment, letting go, ego desires, and being in the present moment of now. The love that stood strong for one, showed the love was eternally true INTERTWINING TWO VIEWS OF LOVE TO FIND ONE. It's amazing what your heart tells you when you think you are not listening.

And I never wanted to create a rift between us, but if it means protecting you from those who wish you dead—I'll do it. I'll do anything to keep you safe, whatever the sacrifice. Please forgive me for all I've done and what I'm about to do next. I promise, it's one magic trick no one will ever see coming. Love, Saverio

Book Synopsis Folk Illusions by : K. Brandon Barker
Download or read book Folk Illusions written by K. Brandon Barker and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[A] well-researched and well-written book . . . linking traditional folklore studies to current scientific research and to thinking about human behavior.” —American Journal of Play Wiggling a pencil so that it looks like it is made of rubber, “stealing” your niece’s nose, and listening for the sounds of the ocean in a conch shell—these are examples of folk illusions, youthful play forms that trade on perceptual oddities. In this groundbreaking study, K. Brandon Barker and Claiborne Rice argue that these easily overlooked instances of children’s folklore offer an important avenue for studying perception and cognition in the contexts of social and embodied development. Folk illusions are traditionalized verbal and/or physical actions that are performed with the intention of creating a phantasm for one or more participants. Using a cross-disciplinary approach that combines the ethnographic methods of folklore with the empirical data of neuroscience, cognitive science, and psychology, Barker and Rice catalogue over eighty discrete folk illusions while exploring the complexities of embodied perception. Taken together as a genre of folklore, folk illusions show that people, starting from a young age, possess an awareness of the illusory tendencies of perceptual processes as well as an awareness that the distinctions between illusion and reality are always communally formed. “With clear focal points, sound and carefully explained methodology, and thought-provoking, substantial analysis, this book makes an excellent contribution to children’s folklore and related fields.” —Elizabeth Tucker, author of Children’s Folklore: A Handbook “A compendium of perceptual illusions, gathered from performers across the country, sorted into formally related perceptual categories, and analyzed under various theories of perception.” —Journal of Folklore Research

Book Synopsis The Illusions of Time by : Valtteri Arstila
Download or read book The Illusions of Time written by Valtteri Arstila and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-26 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection presents the latest cutting-edge research in the philosophy and cognitive science of temporal illusions. Illusion and error have long been important points of entry for both philosophical and psychological approaches to understanding the mind. Temporal illusions, specifically, concern a fundamental feature of lived experience, temporality, and its relation to a fundamental feature of the world, time, thus providing invaluable insight into investigations of the mind and its relationship with the world. The existence of temporal illusions crucially challenges the naïve assumption that we can simply infer the temporal nature of the world from experience. This anthology gathers eighteen original papers from current leading researchers in this subject, covering four broad and interdisciplinary topics: illusions of temporal passage, illusions and duration, illusions of temporal order and simultaneity, and the relationship between temporal illusions and the cognitive representation of time.
