Book excerpt: "Philosophy is a battle against the bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language." – Wittgenstein. We use language to think, to talk to each other, to write, to form beliefs, religions, philosophies, and so on. But what if we are using the wrong language? Do we have "wrong thoughts" because we are using the wrong language? Do we have wrong religions and philosophies for exactly the same reason? What's the right language? If we could find the right language, could we then think correctly, without error, without delusion, without fantasy? Would the right language give us the right religion, the right philosophy? Would it explain reality to us? Discordians hate Truth. The struggle between the Discordians (in all their various forms) and the Illuminati is the most important there is. The soul of humanity is at stake. The Truth itself is the prize to be won or lost.

Book excerpt: The New Way Is there a better way of doing physics that retains the best of current physics while going far beyond it? Physics is currently based on the claim – and claim it most certainly is – that physics deals with something real (let's call that real thing "matter", though there is no ontological definition of matter) and it can be somehow analyzed by an unreal, manmade abstraction, namely mathematics. But what happens if you accept a different assertion, one that makes mathematics not an abstraction but a concrete reality, an ontology? As soon as you make mathematics real, you cast doubt on the reality of matter. But do we need to make a definitive choice? Why not operate both systems – one based on mathematics as real, and one based on matter as real – and then try to find a way to synthesize these different views? Kant, with his transcendental idealism, sought to reconcile empiricism and rationalism. Ontics seeks to reconcile the empiricism of materialism and the rationalism of mathematics. Ontics, via ontological mathematics, gives mind a reality that is entirely absent in materialism. So, with science on the one hand and ontological mathematics on the other hand, body and soul, matter and mind can start to be brought together into a single system. Isn't explaining mind science's biggest challenge? Ontological mathematics provides that exact capacity! Isn't it time for the ultimate paradigm shift? Isn't it time for an intellectual revolution, for a true age of reason?!

Book excerpt: Discover how ontological mathematics explains telepathy, homeopathy, out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences, the placebo effect, déjà vu, jamais vu, reincarnation, demonic possession, enlightenment, the afterlife, the soul and God. When scientific materialism and empiricism is replaced with scientific idealism and rationalism, everything about science changes. Mind replaces matter as the basis of existence. Reason and logic, not the fallible human senses, become the means to discover ultimate reality. The Principle of Sufficient Reason and Occam's razor replace sensory experiments as the route to reliable knowledge. A universe of spacetime only is replaced by a universe of spacetime AND non-spacetime. Non-spacetime is an immaterial frequency Singularity, which serves as a Cosmic Mind. The Cosmos is a hologram inside the Cosmic Mind, just as a dreamworld is a hologram inside your individual mind. Are you ready to overcome the reducing valve of human consciousness and expand your mind to the maximum?

Book excerpt: "I'm plotting revolution against this lie that the majority has a monopoly of the truth. What are these truths that always bring the majority rallying round? Truths so elderly they are practically senile. And when a truth is as old as that, gentlemen, you can hardly tell it from a lie." – Dr Stockmann (in Henrik Ibsen's play An Enemy of the People) Contra Mundum is a handbook for all those who think there is something fundamentally wrong with the world. The ancient Gnostics claimed that the world was actually created and ruled by the Devil (the Demiurge), hence why everything is so hideous, unfair and horrific. Modern Gnostics (Illuminists) assert that the problem with the world is that it's ruled by the forces of unreason rather than reason, by Mythos rather than Logos, by silly story-based religions rather than mathematics, philosophy and science.

Book excerpt: Transhumanism is a recent movement that extols man’s right to shape his own evolution, by maximizing the use of scientific technologies, to enhance human physical and intellectual potential. While the name is new, the idea has long been a popular theme of science fiction, featured in such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, the Terminator series, and more recently, The Matrix, Limitless, Her and Transcendence. However, as its adherents hint at in their own publications, transhumanism is an occult project, rooted in Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry, and derived from the Kabbalah, which asserts that humanity is evolving intellectually, towards a point in time when man will become God. Modeled on the medieval legend of the Golem and Frankenstein, they believe man will be able to create life itself, in the form of living machines, or artificial intelligence. Spearheaded by the Cybernetics Group, the project resulted in both the development of the modern computer and MK-Ultra, the CIA’s “mind-control” program. MK-Ultra promoted the “mind-expanding” potential of psychedelic drugs, to shape the counterculture of the 1960s, based on the notion that the shamans of ancient times used psychoactive substances, equated with the “apple” of the Tree of Knowledge. And, as revealed in the movie Lucy, through the use of “smart drugs,” and what transhumanists call “mind uploading,” man will be able to merge with the Internet, which is envisioned as the end-point of Kabbalistic evolution, the formation of a collective consciousness, or Global Brain. That awaited moment is what Ray Kurzweil, a director of engineering at Google, refers to as The Singularly. By accumulating the total of human knowledge, and providing access to every aspect of human activity, the Internet will supposedly achieve omniscience, becoming the “God” of occultism, or the Masonic All-Seeing Eye of the reverse side of the American dollar bill.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the shifting and negotiated boundaries of religion, spirituality, and secular thinking in Britain and North America during the twentieth century. It contributes to a growing scholarship that problematises secularization theory, arguing that religion and spirituality increasingly took diverse new forms and identities, rather than simply being replaced by a monolithic secularity. The volume examines the way that thinkers, writers, and artists manipulated and reimagined orthodox belief systems in their work, using the notion of heresy to delineate the borders of what was considered socially and ethically acceptable. It includes topics such as psychospiritual approaches in medicine, countercultures and religious experience, and the function of blasphemy within supposedly secular politics. The book argues that heresy and heretical identities established fluid borderlands. These borderlands not only blur simple demarcations of the religious and secular in the twentieth century, but also infer new forms of heterodoxy through an exchange of ideas. This collection of essays offers a nuanced take on a topic that pervades the study of religion. It will be of great use to scholars of Heresy Studies, Religious Studies and Comparative Religion, Social Anthropology, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Cultural Studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together key findings of the long-term research project ‘Religious Individualisation in Historical Perspective’ (Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, Erfurt University). Combining a wide range of disciplinary approaches, methods and theories, the volume assembles over 50 contributions that explore and compare processes of religious individualisation in different religious environments and historical periods, in particular in Asia, the Mediterranean, and Europe from antiquity to the recent past. Contrary to standard theories of modernisation, which tend to regard religious individualisation as a specifically modern or early modern as well as an essentially Western or Christian phenomenon, the chapters reveal processes of religious individualisation in a large variety of non-Western and pre-modern scenarios. Furthermore, the volume challenges prevalent views that regard religions primarily as collective phenomena and provides nuanced perspectives on the appropriation of religious agency, the pluralisation of religious options, dynamics of de-traditionalisation and privatisation, the development of elaborated notions of the self, the facilitation of religious deviance, and on the notion of dividuality.

Book excerpt: Utilizing contemporary scholarship on secularization, individualism, and consumer capitalism, this book explores religious movements founded in the West which are intentionally fictional: Discordianism, the Church of All Worlds, the Church of the SubGenius, and Jediism. Their continued appeal and success, principally in America but gaining wider audience through the 1980s and 1990s, is chiefly as a result of underground publishing and the internet. This book deals with immensely popular subject matter: Jediism developed from George Lucas' Star Wars films; the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, founded by 26-year-old student Bobby Henderson in 2005 as a protest against the teaching of Intelligent Design in schools; Discordianism and the Church of the SubGenius which retain strong followings and participation rates among college students. The Church of All Worlds' focus on Gaia theology and environmental issues makes it a popular focus of attention. The continued success of these groups of Invented Religions provide a unique opportunity to explore the nature of late/post-modern religious forms, including the use of fiction as part of a bricolage for spirituality, identity-formation, and personal orientation.

A lifelong provocateur, Thornley was linked to many of the fringe elements of the time. He helped create the spoof religion called the Discordian Society and its tract, the Principia Discordia. He coined the term "paganism" to describe various nature religions. And he befriended Robert Anton Wilson, inspired the Illuminatus, and gave his anarchic support to the Bavarian Illuminati, a brilliant prank.
