Download or read book Software Engineer's Reference Book written by John A McDermid and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software Engineer's Reference Book provides the fundamental principles and general approaches, contemporary information, and applications for developing the software of computer systems. The book is comprised of three main parts, an epilogue, and a comprehensive index. The first part covers the theory of computer science and relevant mathematics. Topics under this section include logic, set theory, Turing machines, theory of computation, and computational complexity. Part II is a discussion of software development methods, techniques and technology primarily based around a conventional view of the software life cycle. Topics discussed include methods such as CORE, SSADM, and SREM, and formal methods including VDM and Z. Attention is also given to other technical activities in the life cycle including testing and prototyping. The final part describes the techniques and standards which are relevant in producing particular classes of application. The text will be of great use to software engineers, software project managers, and students of computer science.

CARPENTIER Director General DG XIII, Telecommunications, Information Industries and Innovation of the Commission of the European Communities It is with great pleasure that I introduce and recommend this collection of guidelines produced by EWICS TC7. This Technical Committee has consistently attracted technical experts of high quality from all over Europe and the standard of the Committee's work has reflected this. The Committee has been sponsored by the Commission of the European Communities since 1978. During this period, there has been the opportunity to observe the enthusiasm and dedication in the activities of the group, the expertise and effort invested in its work, the discipline in meeting objectives and the quality of the resulting guidelines. It is no surprise that these guidelines have influenced the work of international standardisation bodies. Now the first six of EWICS TCTs guidelines are being made available as a book. I am convinced that all computer system developers who use them will greatly enhance their chances of achieving quality systems. v Acknowledgements In the preparation of this book, the editoLisgrateful to P. Bishop, G. Covington II, C. Goring, and W. Quirk for their help in editing the guidelines. In addition, he would like to thank S. Bologna, W. Ehrenberger, M. Ould, J. Rata, L. Sintonen and J. Zalewski for reviewing the chapters and providing additional material.
Book Synopsis Achieving Quality Software by : D.J. Smith

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth in use of programmable technology, in nearly all sectors of Engineering, is a well-known established trend and one which there is every reason to believe will continue into the foreseeable future. The drivers of this trend include cost, flexibility, rich functionality and certain reliability and safety advantages. However, as explained in this book, these advantages have to be carefully weighed against a number of dis advantages which, amongst other things, have fundamental implications for reliability and safety. Ideally, a programmable system would be viewed as a fusion of hardware, software and user (or 'skinware'), operating under a set of environmental conditions. To date, such a unifying model does not exist and so hardware, software and human factors are still considered largely as three separate disciplines, albeit with certain interdependencies. Established techniques are available which enable the engineer to develop systems comprising purely hardware components to a prescribed reliability and performance. Software, however, is fundamentally different in a number of ways, and does not lend itself to equivalent analysis. A major problem with software is its poor 'visibility', and consequently the great difficulty in understanding and predicting its behaviour in all cir cumstances. This results in the ever-present software design flaws, or 'bugs', which have plagued the software industry from its beginnings.

Book Synopsis Reliability, Yield, and Stress Burn-In by : Way Kuo
Download or read book Reliability, Yield, and Stress Burn-In written by Way Kuo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international market is very competitive for high-tech manufacturers to day. Achieving competitive quality and reliability for products requires leader ship from the top, good management practices, effective and efficient operation and maintenance systems, and use of appropriate up-to-date engineering de sign tools and methods. Furthermore, manufacturing yield and reliability are interrelated. Manufacturing yield depends on the number of defects found dur ing both the manufacturing process and the warranty period, which in turn determines the reliability. the production of microelectronics has evolved into Since the early 1970's, one of the world's largest manufacturing industries. As a result, an important agenda is the study of reliability issues in fabricating microelectronic products and consequently the systems that employ these products, particularly, the new generation of microelectronics. Such an agenda should include: • the economic impact of employing the microelectronics fabricated by in dustry, • a study of the relationship between reliability and yield, • the progression toward miniaturization and higher reliability, and • the correctness and complexity of new system designs, which include a very significant portion of software.

Download or read book Web Engineering written by David Lowe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-04-06 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few years Web Engineering has begun to gain mainstream acc- tance within the software engineering, IT and related disciplines. In particular, both researchers and practitioners are increasingly recognizing the unique c- racteristics of Web systems, and what these characteristicsimply in terms of the approaches we take to Web systems development and deployment in practice. A scan of the publications in related conference proceedings and journals highlights the diversity of the discipline areas which contribute to both the ri- ness and the complexity of Web Engineering. The 5th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE2005), held in Sydney, Australia, extends the traditions established by the earlier conferences in the series: ICWE2004 in Munich, Germany; ICWE2003 in Oviedo, Spain; ICWE2002 in Santa Fe, Argentina; and ICWE2001 in Caceres, ́ Spain. Not only have these conferences helped disseminate cutting edge research within the ?eld of Web Engineering, but they have also helped de?ne and shape the discipline itself.TheprogramwehaveputtogetherforICWE2005continuesthisevolution. Indeed, we can now begin to see the maturing of the ?eld. For possibly the ?rst time, there was very little debate within the Program Committee about which papers were in and out of scope, and much more debate as to the each papers contributions to the ?eld.
