Book Synopsis Fuzzy Automata and Languages by : John N. Mordeson
Download or read book Fuzzy Automata and Languages written by John N. Mordeson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-03-19 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The huge number and broad range of the existing and potential applications of fuzzy logic have precipitated a veritable avalanche of books published on the subject. Most, however, focus on particular areas of application. Many do no more than scratch the surface of the theory that holds the power and promise of fuzzy logic. Fuzzy Automata and Languages: Theory and Applications offers the first in-depth treatment of the theory and mathematics of fuzzy automata and fuzzy languages. After introducing background material, the authors study max-min machines and max-product machines, developing their respective algebras and exploring properties such as equivalences, homomorphisms, irreducibility, and minimality. The focus then turns to fuzzy context-free grammars and languages, with special attention to trees, fuzzy dendrolanguage generating systems, and normal forms. A treatment of algebraic fuzzy automata theory follows, along with additional results on fuzzy languages, minimization of fuzzy automata, and recognition of fuzzy languages. Although the book is theoretical in nature, the authors also discuss applications in a variety of fields, including databases, medicine, learning systems, and pattern recognition. Much of the information on fuzzy languages is new and never before presented in book form. Fuzzy Automata and Languages incorporates virtually all of the important material published thus far. It stands alone as a complete reference on the subject and belongs on the shelves of anyone interested in fuzzy mathematics or its applications.

Download or read book Rough Sets written by Z. Pawlak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-10-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To-date computers are supposed to store and exploit knowledge. At least that is one of the aims of research fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems. However, the problem is to understand what knowledge means, to find ways of representing knowledge, and to specify automated machineries that can extract useful information from stored knowledge. Knowledge is something people have in their mind, and which they can express through natural language. Knowl edge is acquired not only from books, but also from observations made during experiments; in other words, from data. Changing data into knowledge is not a straightforward task. A set of data is generally disorganized, contains useless details, although it can be incomplete. Knowledge is just the opposite: organized (e.g. laying bare dependencies, or classifications), but expressed by means of a poorer language, i.e. pervaded by imprecision or even vagueness, and assuming a level of granularity. One may say that knowledge is summarized and organized data - at least the kind of knowledge that computers can store.

Download or read book Speech Recognition written by D.R. Reddy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1975-01-01 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Speech Recognition: Invited Papers Presented at the 1974 IEEE Symposium discusses several topics, including speech recognition systems, systems organization, acoustic-phonetics, parameter extraction, as well as syntax and semantics. Organized into five parts encompassing 20 chapters, this compilation of papers starts with an overview of the basic structure of speech understanding systems. This text then discusses the practical applications of automatic speech recognition in several areas, including quality control inspection, automated material handling, direct communication with computers, and inventory taking and control. Other chapters consider the operational methods for applying higher level of information to decode the acoustic ambiguities encountered when recognizing larger vocabularies and continuous speech. The final chapter deals with stochastic modeling, which is a valuable and versatile procedure for automatic speech analysis. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence, acoustic-phonetics, linguistics, and computer architecture.

Book Synopsis Logic, Automata, and Computational Complexity by : Bruce M. Kapron
Download or read book Logic, Automata, and Computational Complexity written by Bruce M. Kapron and published by Morgan & Claypool. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Stephen A. Cook is a pioneer of the theory of computational complexity. His work on NP-completeness and the P vs. NP problem remains a central focus of this field. Cook won the 1982 Turing Award for “his advancement of our understanding of the complexity of computation in a significant and profound way.” This volume includes a selection of seminal papers embodying the work that led to this award, exemplifying Cook’s synthesis of ideas and techniques from logic and the theory of computation including NP-completeness, proof complexity, bounded arithmetic, and parallel and space-bounded computation. These papers are accompanied by contributed articles by leading researchers in these areas, which convey to a general reader the importance of Cook’s ideas and their enduring impact on the research community. The book also contains biographical material, Cook’s Turing Award lecture, and an interview. Together these provide a portrait of Cook as a recognized leader and innovator in mathematics and computer science, as well as a gentle mentor and colleague.
