Book Synopsis Ultrasonics International 91 by : Sam Stuart
Download or read book Ultrasonics International 91 written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 697 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonics International 91 is a documentation of conference proceedings that discusses the status and future of acoustic microscopy and its application to materials research, especially focusing on its quantitative analyses. Acoustic microscopy, using focused waves, has been receiving increased attention as a technology applicable to materials characterization at the microscopic scale. In acoustic microscopy, the excitation and propagation of leaky surface acoustic waves (LSAWs) in the environment of the coupling liquid at the solid specimens are observed. Three types of the systems have been developed: point-focus-beam (PFB), line-focus-beam (LFB), and directional PFB acoustic microscopes. In this paper, a brief history of the practical developments is first presented, followed by LFB acoustic microscopy for quantitative material characterization and some applications concerned with characterization of elastic anisotropy and inhomogeneity of electronic materials, such as LiNb03 and LiTa03 single crystals, and thin-film characterization. This book gives a comprehensive account of the majority of the oral and poster contributions made during the conference, and makes a valuable addition to a student or researchers' ultrasonic literature.
Book Synopsis Ultrasonic Methods in Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Materials by : A. Alippi
Download or read book Ultrasonic Methods in Evaluation of Inhomogeneous Materials written by A. Alippi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the School, the content of which is reflected in this book, is to bring together experiences and knowledge of those acousticians who are particularly sensible to materials and their properties, specifically to those materials that may be called inhomo geneous. The two things together: acoustics and inhomogeneity, define factually a dimension less parameter, AI a, which is the ratio between the sound wavelength and the spatial length of the material where its physical characteristics notably change. An implicit defmition is, therefore, at hand for an inhomogeneous medium, which has the characteristic of a condi tioned definition and sets a looser constraint to the otherwise strict statement of invariance under translations. Composite, biologicai, porous, stratified materials are in the list of inhomogeneous materials, whose technological or structural interest has grown greatly in recent times. Ul trasonic waves offer a means for their investigation, which is valuable for it can be non destructive, continuous in time, spatially localized, dependent on the size of inhomoge neities.
Book Synopsis Ultrasonic Measurements for Process Control by : Lawrence C. Lynnworth
Download or read book Ultrasonic Measurements for Process Control written by Lawrence C. Lynnworth and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers, scientists, and technologists will find here, for the first time, a clear and comprehensive account of applications of ultrasonics in the field of process control. Using numerous examples of high-volume, low-cost applications, the author illustrates how the use of new transducer materials and designs, combined with microprocessor-based electronics, make technical and financial sense for concepts that only a few years ago might have been of interest only to academicians. Some of the important topics covered include coupling, acoustic isolation, transducer and sensor design, and signal detection in the presence of noise.
Download or read book Acoustical Imaging written by J.P. Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the proceedings of the 21 st International Symposium on Acoustical Imaging, which was held at the Surf and Sand Hotel in Laguna Beach, California, March 28-30, 1994. These unique and highly interdisciplinary series of symposiums have met at intervals of roughly 18 months over the past 30 some years. In general these meetings are devoted to all aspects and all fields of imaging that use acoustics. The meetings are usually small, with 100 to 200 participants, and stimulate useful interchanges across disciplines. These are the only regular meetings where the major researchers in all areas of acoustical imaging can come together to interchange ideas and new concepts. The Acoustical Imaging Symposiums have long been regarded as the premier meeting of this type in the general field of acoustics. The highly regarded and carefully edited proceedings have been published regularly by Plenum Press. I am proud and honored to serve as editor of the 21st volume in this series. The 21st Symposium was attended by well over 100 participants from some 18 countries. During the three day symposium, 94 scientific presentations were given, 66 as formal lectures and 28 in a poster format. Sufficient time was available during the conference, both following the presentations and informally during meals and breaks, for active discussions among all participants. Over 80 of the presentations have been selected for inclusion in these proceedings.
Book Synopsis Mechanic and Dielectric Properties by : Maurice H. Francombe
Download or read book Mechanic and Dielectric Properties written by Maurice H. Francombe and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanic and Dielectric Properties deals with the mechanical and dielectric properties of thin films. Topics covered range from the deposition and mechanical properties of superlattice thin films to the preparation of hard coatings by sputtering and arc evaporation. The use of thin films in microwave acoustics is also discussed, along with ferroelectric films for integrated electronics and the physics, chemistry, and technology of electrochromic tungsten-oxide-based thin films. Comprised of five chapters, this volume begins with an analysis of the growth, characterization, and mechanical behavior of films comprising multilayers primarily of metal and refractory metallic compound components. The next chapter reviews the mechanical properties of hard coatings prepared by sputtering and arc evaporation, together with the influence of multilayer and gradient structures, and of film crystallinity, crystal orientation, and morphology, on properties such as hardness, coating smoothness, and friction behavior. Subsequent chapters focus on the unique role played by piezoelectric films in signal processing devices utilizing bulk or surface acoustic waves; the properties and applications of ferroelectric films in integrated electronics; and the underlying physics and chemistry of electrochromic tungsten-oxide-based thin films. This book should be of interest to physicists.
