Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for anyone who has had their heart broken, soul wounded, faith tested, abandoned, rejected, or has suffered blow after blow, asking, "Can I get up? And even if I can eventually stand, how can I walk out and not let those blows, fire, and ashes show up in my tomorrow?" I don't want to look like, smell, or feel like what I've been through. Or maybe you're fighting with the shame and guilt of backsliding. You know God, but you keep hearing it's your fault because you're not strong enough. That's a lie from the pits of hell. First John 1 says that "it is true that we should walk with and talk with God continuously, and when we sin, confess it, and the blood of Christ cleanses continually." Because Revelations 12 says that "the enemy continually deceives and seduces the earth's inhabitants. He who brings charges against men and women day and night has been thrown out of heaven." And they overcame and conquered him because of the lamb's blood and because of their testimony's word, for they did not love their life and renounce their faith even when faced with death. (Revelations 12:11) Healing is a part of the work, but wholeness is the complete work; healing is a gift from God for His own, but wholeness is labor built by intention. I realized that my pain/cross was meant to be my oil or my mission of contributing to the world. This book addresses the false sense of security, the disillusioned identity, the emotionally scared, and the effects of scarcity of all other things, which seek to make us forfeit our power by using excuses and cycles. Until we are confronted and exposed by receiving God's Word, we are blind, deaf, lamed, and spiritually dead. I am encouraging all those who want to find themselves to start with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They came together, in the beginning, to make us partakers in God's work to have dominion on earth and to expand the kingdom of heaven on earth, which that commandment will never be retracted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHO ARE YOU? WHAT DEFINES YOU? WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY? How you answer those questions affects every aspect of your life: personal, public, and spiritual. So it’s vital to get the answer right. Pastor and best-selling author Mark Driscoll believes false identity is at the heart of many struggles—and that you can overcome them by having your true identity in Christ. In Who Do You Think You Are?, Driscoll explores the question, “What does it mean to be ‘in Christ’?” In the process he dissects the false-identity epidemic and, more important, provides the only solution—Jesus. “This book will give you an unshakeable, biblical understanding of who you are in Christ. When you know who you are, you’ll know what to do.” —Craig Groeschel, Senior Pastor of LifeChurch.tv and author of Soul Detox, Clean Living in a Contaminated World “I spent years in ministry for Christ without understanding my identity in Christ. I know now that I was not alone. When, by the grace of God, we understand who we are in Christ, everything else can crumble and we will still be standing. I highly commend this book to you.” —Sheila Walsh, speaker and author of God Loves Broken People

Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Book excerpt: This book is rooted in the quest for Christian identity in the Southern African context where Christianity is faced with many stark challenges, internal tensions and experiences of rapid social change. The book explores six aspects of the highly complex notion of Christian identity, namely Christian institutions, a Christian ethos, Christian rituals, Christian experiences (with specific reference to the notion of “faith”), Christian narratives (with specific reference to the category of “revelation” and the place of the Bible in the Christian tradition) and Christian doctrine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some evangelical churches appear to be uninterested in their historical roots, and so can be liturgically and doctrinally unstable. Perceiving this disconnection between their Protestant faith and ancient Christianity, a number of evangelicals have abandoned Protestantism for traditions that seem to be clearly rooted in the early church. Ken Stewart argues that the evangelical tradition’s track record of interaction with Christian antiquity is far healthier than is often assumed. He surveys five centuries of Protestant engagement with the ancient church, showing that Christians belonging to the evangelical churches of the Reformation consistently see their faith as connected to early Christianity. Stewart explores areas of positive engagement, including the Lord’s Supper and biblical interpretation, as well as areas that raise concerns, such as monasticism. In Search of Ancient Roots shows that Christian antiquity is the heritage of all orthodox Christians, and that evangelicals have the resources in their history to claim their place at the ecumenical table. ‘A must-read for every person struggling with the question, “What does evangelicalism have to do with history?”’ Leonardo De Chirico, Director of Reformanda Initiative

Book excerpt: For so many of us, our flaws, our past and our insecurities define who we are. We hold tight to the harsh words spoken over us as children. We cling to our past mistakes and failures as if they classify us. We want to let go but ironically feel secure as they encompass our identity with false accusations. We strive to get out, all the while digging ourselves deeper into a black hole of despair. We desperately look to the world for answers only to end up engulfed in bondage to what it demands of us. We refer to ourselves as "Christians" but a cloud of shame hovers over us causing even the righteous to doubt. Is there freedom? Is there an answer? Absolutely! When we surrender and trust the Lord, He walks with us through even the most difficult steps towards freedom. We stand on His promises in order to, "fight the good fight of faith" (1 Timothy 6:12 NIV). We look at His truth and rely on Him to give us a deeper heart revelation of His amazing grace, love, and forgiveness. We no longer have to strive to be something great. As God moves us from bondage to freedom we are able to let go of our identity crisis and walk in our IDENTITY as CHRIST in US!

Few Christians seem to experience the transformation they hoped for, and often burn out too early. This is because we cannot escape the interpretation war each day over our identity. What if we are ruled by a lie more than the truth about who we are? What if condemnation has been their primary motivation, and has functioned for us more than grace, for too many years? What if, on the front end, we already have what we try so hard to obtain? Dr. Bob Smart walks us through the practical steps to embrace our true identity in Christ by helping us embrace our glory, gender, story, acceptance, sonship, and more by renouncing lies, condemning thoughts, and foolish strategies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask yourself this question: What type of character qualifies the people God chooses to use? The question itself assumes an atypical answer, simply because it leaves out so much. To ask only about one's character seems inadequate when defining a leader. We surely need to ask about character, but also about personality, communication skills, IQ, education, previous experience, and more... don't we? Crawford Loritts disagrees. He answers the question with four simple words: Brokenness, communion, servanthood, and obedience. These four traits form the framework for Leadership as an Identity. By examining each trait, Loritts undermines many pervasive assumptions about leadership that are unbiblical. According to Loritts, God doesn't look for leaders like the world does. He looks for disciples, and ironically, as these disciples follow Him, they will lead.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHO ARE YOU, CHRISTIAN? This question is as old as the New Covenant itself. From the moment Christ died, all of humanity was given the opportunity to know God in a way unlike ever before. Jesus' death sealed the deal, but when He came back to life, every person on the planet now had the chance of God making His home inside of them-permanently. By grace through faith in what Jesus did for our sins, we Christians get a brand new identity from the moment we first believe. No longer living by rules, wasteful efforts, or people-pleasing, we now live and breathe by way of a supernatural relationship with the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, religious hierarchies who extort Christians, our main enemy, Satan, and the power of sin, all want nothing more than for us to not know what the Cross has truly done. The spiritual identity of every believer has become heaven-ready! On the inside, we are currently brand new creations! Not when our physical bodies die, but right now, we are new! My name is Matt McMillen, and over the next thirty days I'll take you on a daily devotional adventure of discovering who you really are as a child of God. Christian, you will be amazed at what the Cross has done to your identity! Thanks for joining me! Let's go!

Book excerpt: We all want the confidence that comes from living out of our true identity, but how do we get there? We don't magically discover our true selves when we reach our twenties. And some of us spend our entire lives feeling like we are living a lie. We can be torn apart by our duplicity or we can become so comfortable with putting on various personas to suit our situation that we don't even realize we're doing it. But if we are followers and disciples of Christ, our identity is already decided. What we need to learn is how to understand and embrace it. In this honest and penetrating book, David D. Swanson calls readers to take off their masks, discover the true source of their identities, and enjoy the peace and satisfaction that comes from being authentic and transparent to ourselves, our God, and the people who surround us. He gently leads readers from their hiding places to a life of conviction and courage.
