Download or read book Smart Cities Policies and Financing written by John R. Vacca and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smart Cities Policies and Financing: Approaches and Solutions is the definitive professional reference for harnessing the full potential of policy making and financial planning in smart cities. It covers the effective tools for capturing the dynamic relations between people, policies, financing, and environments, and where they are most often useful and effective for all relevant stakeholders. The book examines the key role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) - especially in information and communications technologies - in the design, development, and management of smart cities policies and financing. It identifies the problems and offers practical solutions in implementation of smart infrastructure policies and financing. Smart Cities Policies and Financing is also about how the implementation of smart infrastructure projects (related to the challenges of the lack of financing and the application of suitable policies) underlines the key roles of science, technology and innovation (STI) communities in addressing these challenges and provides key policies and financing that will help guide the design and development of smart cities. - Brings together experts from academia, government and industry to offer state-of- the-art solutions for improving the lives of billions of people in cities around the globe - Creates awareness among governments of the various policy tools available, such as output-based contracting, public-private partnerships, procurement policies, long-term contracting, and targeted research funds in order to promote smart infrastructure implementation, and encouraging the use of such tools to shape markets for smart infrastructure and correct market failures - Ensures the insclusiveness of smart city projects by adequately addressing the special needs of marginalized sections of society including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and inhabitants of informal settlements and informal sectors - Ensures gender considerations in the design of smart cities and infrastructure through the use of data generated by smart systems to make cities safer and more responsive to the needs of women - Demonstrate practical implementation through real-life case studies - Enhances reader comprehension using learning aids such as hands-on exercises, checklists, chapter summaries, review questions, and an extensive appendix of additional resources

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores many fundamental topics in a basic and easy-to-understand manner. It, and the accompanying DC-AC Electrical Fundamentals by the same co-authors, have been developed using a classic textbook – Electricity and Electronics: A Survey (5th Edition) by Patrick and Fardo – as a framework. Both new books have been structured using the same basic sequence and organization of the textbook as previous editions. This book has been expanded to 23 chapters, further simplifying content and providing a more comprehensive coverage of fundamental content. The content has been continually updated and revised through new editions and by external reviewers throughout the years. Additional quality checks to ensure technical accuracy, clarity and coverage of content have always been an area of focus. Each edition of the text has been improved through the following features: Improved and updated text content. Improved usage of illustrations and photos. Use of color to add emphasis and clarify content.

Book Synopsis Implementing Institutional Controls at Brownfields and Other Contaminated Sites by : Amy L. Edwards
Download or read book Implementing Institutional Controls at Brownfields and Other Contaminated Sites written by Amy L. Edwards and published by American Bar Association. This book was released on 2003 with total page 820 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most brownfields cleanups have relied on institutional and engineering controls as part of the remedy, although the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of these controls is one of the most difficult issues affecting contaminated property cleanup and redevelopment. The critical role of institutional controls has recently been highlighted by the 2001 Brownfields Amendments, and as a result a key element in the future success of brownfields redevelopment will rest on understanding and effectively using risk-based corrective action, including institutional and engineering controls. Implementing Institutional Controls at Brownfields and Other Contaminated Sites, the first book on this important and evolving topic, provides a thorough grounding in the history and current use of institutional controls. Emphasizing federal, state and public perspectives, this compendium of articles written by over 43 experts in the field offers real estate and environmental practitioners a state-of-the-art review of a subject that is integral to the success and growth of brownfields redevelopment projects. also examines some of the emerging tools that can be used in brownfields redevelopment, including custodial trusts, one-call systems, and web-based tracking systems. It also discusses the benefits of the proposed uniform model law on environmental covenants (UECA). Part II addresses the federal perspective, including the statutory and regulatory framework for the use of institutional controls in CERCLA and RCRA. The state perspective is covered in Part III, looking at the varying use of these controls in several states, including Arizona, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Maine. Experience in the Field is the focus of Part IV, which reviews how these controls have been used, highlights recent case studies, and draws conclusions on what can be learned from these successes and failures. documents and forms, including the flow chart from the ASTM Standard Guide on the Use of Activity and Use Limitations, Including Institutional and Engineering Controls (E 2091), final fact sheets from the Environmental Protection Agency for site managers at Superfund and RCRA sites, guidance from the Department of Defense, and state documents referenced in the text.

Book Synopsis Promoting Teamwork in Healthcare by : Juliane E. Kämmer
Download or read book Promoting Teamwork in Healthcare written by Juliane E. Kämmer and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-06-24 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing healthcare is a team endeavor. Teams play an important role along the full chain of patient care, ranging from ad-hoc emergency and anesthesia teams delivering immediate care to tumor boards conferring on long-term cancer treatment. Thereby, quality of patient care hinges on the successful intra- and interprofessional collaboration among healthcare professionals, and sensitive partnering with patients and their families. In particular, communication and coordination in healthcare teams have been found essential for team performance and patient safety. Yet, effective teamwork is challenging, especially in large hospitals where turnover rates are high, and for interdisciplinary and interprofessional ad-hoc teams lacking the experience of constantly working together as a team (e.g., ICU, emergency teams, obstetrics, or anesthesia). Moreover, healthcare teams deal with complex tasks, have to make risky and fast decisions under uncertainty, and to adapt quickly to changing conditions. Fostering research on how to promote effective teamwork in healthcare may thus make an important contribution to a better quality of patient care.

Book Synopsis Integrated Graphic and Computer Modelling by : Adrian Thomas
Download or read book Integrated Graphic and Computer Modelling written by Adrian Thomas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-16 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer languages and computer graphics have become the primary modes of human-computer interaction. This book provides a basic introduction to "Real and Virtual Environment" computer modelling. Graphics models are used to illustrate both the way computer languages are processed and also used to create computer models of graphic displays. Computer languages have been bootstrapped from machine code, to high-level languages such as Java, to animation scripting languages. Integrating graphic and computer models takes this support for programming, design and simulation work, one step further, allowing interactive computer graphic displays to be used to construct computer models of both real and virtual environment systems. The Java language is used to implement basic algorithms for language translation, and to generate graphic displays. It is also used to simulate the behaviour of a computer system, to explore the way programming and design-simulation environments can be put together.
