Book excerpt: Poverty. Racism. Slavery. Self-Hate. Homicide. All of these social issues still remain the same for young brothers and sisters of oppression in the good ole U.S.A. also known as Amerikkka. Mar, a young hard-headed black boy who has experienced hardships, heartache, and sufferings since the day he came out of his mother's womb is just one of the examples of said oppression. Born in one of the most dangerous places in the country better known as Ratchet City, where the air is polluted with plantations, bad breath, Republican parties, with small houses and apartments in ruins, high crime rates and oh yeah…a demons plague, Mar causes commotion around the city with a rebellious attitude in hopes of ending the dark days of his community. Growing up homeless since the age of 7, and both of his parents out of the picture, Mar becomes a lost child in a cruel world with no one to provide him love, comfort, and guidance. Until one day, Mar gets in trouble with the Ratchet City Police Department and a white officer turned white demon captures and brutalizes him in a dark alley. With his life in jeopardy, and inches away from meeting his maker, what will become of Mar and the cause he’s fought for?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is part 4 of Moment by Moment, I Pray, which deals with my praying life from January 1, 2018–September 12, 2018. The story behind part 4 is the same as that of parts 1, 2, and 3, which deal with my prayer life from February 10, 2016, and ends on August 31, 2016. I found myself alone after the funeral of my beloved wife, Annie Jewel “Chief” Banks. We had been together almost fifty years. The funeral was held on Monday, January 5, 2015, at Ben Hill UMC, located in the heart of the Ben Hill community. After a forty-plus-mile drive to our birth home of Griffin, Georgia, she was laid to rest. Three days after her funeral, I took my original manuscript from a storage area in the house that we had made our home and had raised our family and went out into the backyard and destroyed all twenty-six thousand handwritten pages. I did not see the need to continue writing or to live. But that was January 8, 2015. I looked up into the heavens and asked the Lord what he wanted me to do. I said, “Lord, I have pulled myself up from a small town in the state of Georgia named Griffin, Georgia.” I had completed Fairmont High School, entered Clark College (now known as Clark Atlanta University), with the completion date of May 1970, and I completed Woodrow Wilson College of Law, Georgia State University Schools of Education, for my first teacher’s certification to teach school and the school of management. From 1966 to 1970, I completed my degree in sociology and psychology. During my senior year at Clark, I married the love of my life, Ms. Annie Jewel Hosely, my high school sweetheart, also from Griffin, Georgia. We set up housekeeping in Atlanta, Georgia. But in January 1971, I was drafted into the army and was shipped to the Republic of South Vietnam to serve a tour of duty as a squad leader in a military police unit. I worked very hard, and I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant E5. I survived Vietnam and many other situations, but Chief’s death took a toll upon the very essence of my soul. On February 12, 2016, I started back writing, and after a talk with the Lord on September 17, 2018, I had handwritten about three thousand pages. At this point, I asked the Lord, “Lord, what do you want me to do?” A soft but firm voice came to me, “Warren, my son, I want you to publish your story, which you have written in the form of a continued prayer.” Well, looking back upon my life, the Lord has always been there for me, even when I thought my life was over. About seven days later, I was listening to my favorite gospel radio station. I heard his message: “If you are considering publishing your manuscript, call this number or go to this website.” I was not quick enough to get the information down. Therefore, I missed out on getting the information that I needed to make my contact. But a few days later, while I was again listening to the same radio station, that same message came again. This time, I was able to get the information that I needed, and I made contact. Within the next few minutes, I received a phone call. The person on the other end of the line said that she had been assigned from the Christian Faith Publishing Company to serve as my literary agent. I was told that she would be my guide throughout the production process. I was given information where I needed to mail my manuscript to. I mailed my manuscript off to the address that was given to me. Within a few days, I got a call from my agent indicating that my manuscript had been accepted for publication. I was really beside myself. I have been in constant prayer with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He saw so much more in me than I saw in myself. He said that he would never leave me nor forsake me, and he never has.

Book excerpt: The only man that Melany Starks ever loved was dying-quickly he was disintegrating before her eyes. Why did she care? He ignored her and watched from among the shadows while she crumbled under the stress and strain of loving only him. He stood by as a spectator while she held on with dear life to what was left of their family long after he walked out in a dramatic and twisted turn of events. It was neither he nor his love that saved her; though it was he and his deceit that pushed her to rock-bottom. Jalen and Melany Starks lived a fairytale life, in the eyes of many. Alas, secrets lurked behind the doors of their mansion, and sick skeletons lived in the closets of his unlikely partners in infidelity. As each part of Jalen's front falls to pieces, so does Melany's life and her ability to cope. Nevertheless, the darkest part of the night is just before the break of day. Only after seeking God does she manage to renew her life and the lives of every one affected by the life and death of Jalen Starks.

Kimberla Lawson Roby admits that for years, she wasn’t being the real woman God created her to be. Yes, she has always loved God and tried her best to honor Him, but what she eventually discovered was that building and maintaining her own personal relationship with God—and making Him her top priority—was the key to finding joy in all areas of her life. Now, in The Woman God Created You to Be, Kimberla has bravely—and transparently—written about her flaws, fears, and failures, as well as her faith, courage, and successes. From experiencing divorce to marrying her soulmate of twenty-nine years…from hopelessly searching for the perfect job to becoming a New York Times bestselling author…from suffering in silence with anxiety to concentrating on self-care…from struggling with the loss of her mom to finding strength, comfort, peace, and understanding—Kimberla takes you on a journey that will help you do the following: ● Become the Best Spiritual You (Seven Days Per Week) ● Become the Best Personal You (Mentally, Emotionally, and Physically) ● Become the Best Professional You (Without Jeopardizing Your Faith) Kimberla reminds us that when we trust and depend on God—heart, mind, and soul—He will empower us to do more than we ever thought imaginable. He will help us see that we are more than enough, and that He has already given us everything we need to become the women He created us to be—spiritually, personally, professionally…and beyond.

Then, imagine the surprise and the tears that come to your eyes when your friend begins to share his, or her, innermost feelings and darkest secrets. Imagine sitting with friends and talking about the Bible. Imagine listening to these friends quote Scripture and tell you about their favorite Bible verses. Then, imagine that these friends are not your normal churchgoers. These are not only "friends", but they're also fiends. These are normal people, attempting to live their everyday life as drug fiends. Sadly, some of my friends have left us because of their addictions. But they are now in a better place. Others continue to fight, struggle, and share their fears. As I listen, intently, continuing to wipe my face and dry my tears ~ I begin to reflect upon their stories. Using poetic language to help me convey the things they want to say, I tell myself that this will make it easier for people to hear, read, and understand. Some people have a need for things to be made simpler. But there is nothing simple about these ten stories.

Book excerpt: Thirty-year-old Tonya Monroe has worked hard to amass her assets: a dream home in one of Washington's largest Maryland suburbs, a sweet job, a luxury car, and money in the bank. She has beauty, brains, and a body envied by women and adored by men. But what she hasn't had since she was fourteen and her mother was killed while riding with a drunk driver, leaving Tonya to be raised by the two people she begrudges most-her alcoholic father and her 'play aunt, ' Carolyn Wright-is peace of mind. Peace isn't the only thing slipping through her fingers when she is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Carolyn, who drove the car that took Tonya's mother's life, is a fifty-four-year-old devoted wife, ministry leader, and self-proclaimed 'woman of integrity.' Though she believes in holding folk-especially church folk-accountable for their actions, she refuses to live under the black cloud of that terrible day. She is now strong in the Lord and the power of His might. But her well-built spiritual wall begins to crumble when she winds up the subject of scandal at the Straighter Way Baptist Church and has to answer for her actions. This uplifting debut novel from a fresh, new voice in the growing field of Christian fiction is the story of faith, friendship, and forgiveness. Korika L. Johnson's "Joy Comes in the Mourning" presents real characters with real issues and challenges even non-Christians to lift up their eyes to the Father in heaven.

The vivid memories of my family and friends have been modified as I remembered the situations to protect their anonymity. This is a national outreach to those who still suffer from abuse together we stand divided we fall. This is a true story of abuse awareness for victims to receive help in sexual, mental, and physical abuse. The story of triumph over abuse, alcoholism, and trauma are episodes about my life. I wrote this book through the eyes of an innocent young child being abused. The promises start to happen when the victim surrenders to the will of God nothing else worked. This material will help people build a foundation of willingness to conquer abuse through the powerful medicine of Gods forgiveness. The road to freedom for the victims of abuse expressed in this work starts with assimilating the trauma, and identifying the problem. This book allows people to see the power of God working in children so powerful that at a young age. I was able to hide the trauma better than being a grown up trying to survive. I just want people to know that they are not alone in their suffering and trauma. We can survive together even though I may not know who they are this message is for those who still suffer.
