Book Synopsis God Went Fishing by : Dennis Shields
Download or read book God Went Fishing written by Dennis Shields and published by NorlightsPress. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God Went Fishing tells the remarkable story of Sigmund, a handsome and kind young man who led an idyllic life until learning the woman he thought to be his mother had stolen him from the hospital where she'd just given birth, leaving her real child behind. This satirical novel follows Sigmund's adventures and catastrophes as he searches for his true identity. While enjoying this cross between Candide and "Family Guy," readers see that a life filled with death, despair, and deceit can be fun. Perhaps the real reason Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden was because it was boring. God Went Fishing is often offensive, sometimes poignant, occasionally edifying-and always funny. Readers will long remember the characters Sigmund encounters during his quest. What more can one ask from any work of fiction than to make you think and make you laugh? God Went Fishing accomplishes both.

Book excerpt: "A celebration of the sport in the land of 10,000 lakes and beyond, where the fish fry is a near-holy Friday ritual, the running of smelt heralds spring, and a village of ice-fishing huts springs up on every frozen lake, this irresistible book tells the full story from trivia to sacred tradition. Eric Dregni, who has entertained countless readers with enlightening tales of Midwest marvels, here shows his considerable skills as a raconteur and cultural historian of the fun and the facts of fishing in the Great Lakes region. Fishing contests and taxidermy, lures and earthworms, fishing scenes on beer cans, and the peculiar genre of fishing photographs: no detail is too small, reflection too deep, or bridge too far to escape his eye and ready wit, from gear madness to true grit, angling heroics to solitary pleasures, small-town festivals to sport-fishing meccas. And he has the images to prove it. Lavishly illustrated with postcards, advertisements, historical prints, and tourist snapshots, this book is an always fascinating, occasionally hilarious, and often oddly informative compendium of fishing lore destined to reel in the uninitiated and to occupy the aficionado in those long, empty hours between seasons.A celebration of the sport in the land of 10,000 lakes and beyond, where the fish fry is a near-holy Friday ritual, the running of smelt heralds spring, and a village of ice-fishing huts springs up on every frozen lake, this irresistible book tells the full story from trivia to sacred tradition. Book Synopsis Aaliyah and Dad Go Fishing by : RK Simms
Download or read book Aaliyah and Dad Go Fishing written by RK Simms and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-04-26 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fishing with Aaliyah was great. Seeing her excitement even excited me! That entire day was a day of joy. From the time we waved goodbye to Mom and Aarron, to the time we came home with a pail full of fish, we have a fun filled day Ill never forget. Ill view this as one of our special days; like a daughter and Daddy day. Unfortunately, days like this are not often shared with many daughters and their Dads. I can recall the many times my Dad took me fishing and the fun we had. I did the same with my three sons; whether at the local lake or at the New Jersey shore. Fishing proved to be a fantastic day out with Joshua, Kevin, and Terence, regardless how many fish we caught! One of my greatest fishing excursions was when my wife Isabelle, several of our friends, and I went to the beach and fished off shore. We caught so many fish we ate fish for days! The main event was watching Isabelle reel them in. she walked out into the water, cast out with all her might, and by the time she backed up to the dry sand, she was reeling another one in! This was her first time fishing and she caught more fish than each of us so-called experts. Fishing with Aaliyah was very similar. This was her first time too and she caught more fish that I did. I guess she has her mothers knack. I was thrilled to share this day with my daughter. Actually, having Aaliyah with me, made fishing that much more enjoyable. Although she caught more fish than I did, that beautiful sunny day, will be day, neither Aaliyah or I will ever forget. RK Simms
