Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it about male aloneness that makes it so desirable while female aloneness is seen as less so? What is it about male aloneness that is often seen as a heroic and poetic choice, while female aloneness is generally seen to have come from a lack of options? I am My Own Home is a documentation of what it means to be a 30-something Indonesian woman who lives alone, along with the contentment and loneliness that goes with it. Through wandering, literature, and pop culture, the essays collected here are a way to recreate the idea of 'building a home', a manifesto (of sort) of living life as one person. These stories, on flaws and trying too hard, on intensity and overthinking, and on unrequited love and unfiltered emotions, are also one woman’s way to make sense of her existence.

As the ground is pulled out from under her, Nima must grapple with the phantom of a life not chosen—the name her parents meant to give her at birth—Yasmeen. And the life Nima wishes were someone else's. . . is one she will need to fight for with a fierceness she never knew she possessed.
Book Synopsis I Am My Own Cause, Too by : Charles K. Poole
Download or read book I Am My Own Cause, Too written by Charles K. Poole and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-10-22 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The journey of a lifetime continues as Charles K. Poole’s richly individual and universally resonant views take a very personal turn in his newly published book I Am My Own Cause, Too: Hope and Recovery. In this follow-up to his well-received first book, I Am My Own Cause: An Unfiltered Blog-View of Life As I See It, Poole picks up where the last book ended. Here, he writes from the heart about living, learning, and loving in the refreshingly honest way fans of his popular blog and book have come to expect. This time, he centers his words and thoughts on being hopeful in the midst of personal recovery from . . . almost everything. Each selection in Hope and Recovery is an inspiring, thoughtful reflection on living, and Poole doesn ́t skimp on authenticity, preferring instead to fully reveal himself as focused on the journey and not just the destination. A journey through which, Poole believes, everyone can teach others and learn from others. “Every day is rich with possibilities,” Poole reminds us. “And every one of us is able to create moments that define and affirm our lives and the lives of others. It’s only by asking ourselves tough questions and examining the meaning of the answers we find that we come to appreciate the gift of life we’ve been given. Our purpose is simple: Live. Learn. Love. That’s why we’re here.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly ten years of life conveniently and inconveniently occurring but entirely authenticthat is the journey Charles K. Poole had been on and shared in times good and bad. In this third volume of his I Am My Own Cause series, Poole picks up from 2010where the second volume endedand crafts more personal, insightful, and inspiring stories that will make you think and make you cry but ultimately make you glad you took time to read what he has to say. This third volume represents a period of even more significant change for Poole, much of it painful. But as he has often shown us, Poole learns lessons from even the most heartbreaking events and somehow uses those lessons for the greater good. And in doing so, he reminds us that it is something we are capable of too. Honest and written in his own irrepressible voice, I Am My Own Cause: The Third Act; Surviving and Thriving is a fitting conclusion to this series of chapters in Pooles life, but by no means is it the end. Its the beginning of something . . . new, something thatif he chooses to share itwill continue to remind us that there is great value in being our own cause.

Download or read book I Am My Own Cause written by Charles K. Poole and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-12-07 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I Am My Own Cause P O O L E 2008 was a year of major change in Charles Pooles life. In the course of the year he: Moved from the Midwest to the West Coast without knowing a soul; Faced uncertainty about his professional future; Struggled with challenges ranging from body image and emotional eating, to recurring medical issues; and Grew increasingly aware that Americas fixation on mindless conformity was devaluing its greatest assetindividual self acceptance. He looked inward when he decided not to let personal challenges and other turmoil break his spirit. Writing became his coping mechanism and eventually took the form of a blog titled, I Am My Own Cause. For a year beginning in November of 2008, Poole shared his struggles, addressed personal issues, provided opinions about America, popular culture, and faith and couragevirtually anything he thought and felt, without a filter. It was his catharsis. In the months after he began writing, people he knew, as well as many he didnt, responded to the messages they found on the blog and told him his posts reached them on very personal levels. They encouraged him to write more. I Am My Own Cause, conceived as a way to help Poole find the means to live an abundant, hopeful life, became a rallying point for common sense, honesty and hope that connected people across race, age, sex and faith. This work is a collection of some of the more thought-provoking, inspiring and humorous posts he wrote during that year. Each entry, written in Pooles unique voice and based on his belief that every person has the power to change their lives, and the lives of others, is practical and inspirational.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I Am My Own Wife is the winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. From the Obie Award-winning author of Quills comes this acclaimed one-man show, which explores the astonishing true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf. A transvestite and celebrated antiques dealer who successfully navigated the two most oppressive regimes of the past century-the Nazis and the Communists--while openly gay and defiantly in drag, von Mahlsdorf was both hailed as a cultural hero and accused of colluding with the Stasi. In an attempt to discern the truth about Charlotte, Doug Wright has written "at once a vivid portrait of Germany in the second half of the twentieth century, a morally complex tale about what it can take to be a survivor, and an intriguing meditation on everything from the obsession with collecting to the passage of time" (Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times).

Book Synopsis “And I Too Am My Own Forerunner” by : Indrani Chaudhuri
Download or read book “And I Too Am My Own Forerunner” written by Indrani Chaudhuri and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2020-08-29 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Predicated upon the towers of collapse, while T.S. Eliot, the representative modernist, in order to re-construct his culture out of the debris of its imperialist past, concluded his Waste Land (1922) by looking Eastward, into the all-pervading “shantih” of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese American, authored The Prophet (1923) to deconstruct such enterprise and retrieve a culture that was swirling in-between Darwinian metaphors and Nietzschean Nihilism. He who was exterior to the ‘omnipotent definitions’ of the West, saw in “Beauty” the “eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.” So, to him, “you are eternity and you are the mirror.” This book is a reading of Kahlil Gibran's life and works: his life as a text and his works as the terrains of a never-ending journey. It opens up those fissures and ruptures that make Gibran and his writings relevant vis-á-vis the socio-political, cultural and religious urgencies that the world is grappling with today. Often misconstrued as a mystic or an Oriental Wise Man, Gibran dwells in an amorphous placeless-ness within the academic space and outside of it. “Forerunner” in its own way, this book, by unfolding the process of 'reading' as a mode of travelling, subverts such stereotypes and tries to reveal to the readers that 'outlandish' lonely intellectual who, through his works, fashioned a self and a land ‘out of place’, rather in a ‘non-place’, for dismantling and up-setting monolithic cultures and their decadent notions.
