Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venous access devices are necessary for any patient requiring repeated blood sampling, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy or other IV treatments to be delivered in the hospital setting or at home. In the last decade, ultrasound-guided PICCs and Midline catheters – inserted by adequately trained physicians or nurses - have suddenly and widely spread in the field of venous access devices all over the world. The introduction and diffusion of PICCs in Italy has been historically linked to the GAVeCeLT association (the Italian Group of Long Term Venous Access Devices) and particularly to the authors’ scientific and didactic activity. This volume examines the clinical indications for these devices and illustrates the details of their insertion and management in several clinical settings. Furthermore, all the specifications regarding the materials to use and all the aspects related to device removal and replacement, as well as the different strategies for complications prevention, are thoroughly discussed.

Download or read book Handbook of Adult Development written by Jack Demick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an outgrowth ofcontemporary research on development over the adult lifespan, which by now has burgeoned and developed both nationally and internationally. However, for us, the impetus to be involved in this area was spawned and nurtured by our initial association with the Society for Research in Adult Development (SRAD) with its origins some 15 years ago by Michael Commonsand his associates inCambridge, Massachusetts. Throughthegood will and support of this society, we also became, and are still, heavily involved with the Journal of Adult Development and the Kluwer-Plenum Monograph Series on Adult Development and Aging, ofwhich this volume is a companion. Many ofthe contributions in the volume are from SRAD members, who con sistently adhere to a focus on positive adult development. Their chapters have been complemented by pieces from other researchers, who have adopted more mainstream approaches to adult development and/oraging. Regardless ofthe par ticular approach and/or focus of the chapter, all the work reported herein sup ports the relatively recent idea that development is not restricted to children and adolescents but continues throughout the adult lifespan in ways that we never envisionedsome 20 years ago. Thus, the volume represents state-of-the-arttheory, research, and practice on adult development, which has the potential to occupy us all for some time to come.

Pediatric surgery is also covered. Most of the operations included are for saving life, alleviating pain, preventing the development of serious complications, or stabilizing a patient's condition pending referral. Book Synopsis Beyond Suffering and Reparation by : Timothy James Bowyer
Download or read book Beyond Suffering and Reparation written by Timothy James Bowyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the key issues, debates, concepts, approaches, and questions that together define the lives of rural people living in extreme poverty in the aftermath of political violence in a developing country context. Divided into nine chapters, the book addresses issues such as the complexities of human suffering, losing trust, psychic wounds, dealing with post-traumatic stress situations, and disillusionment after change. By building knowledge about human and social suffering in a post-conflict environment, the book counters the objectification of human and social suffering and the moral detachment with which it is associated. In addition, it presents practical ways to help make things better. It discusses new methodological concepts based around empathy and participation to show how the subjective reality of human and social suffering matter. Finally, the book maps a burgeoning field of enquiry based around the need for linking psychosocial approaches with the actual lived experience of individuals and groups.
