Selon plusieurs rapports prospectifs de référence publiés entre 2019 et 2020, le secteur de l'hydrogène pourrait créer plus de 30 millions d'emploi et peser plus de 2500 milliards de dollars en rythme annuel d'ici 2050, dont le tiers en Europe. L'hydrogène promet d'accélérer le secteur des énergies renouvelables et de décarboner les usages les plus polluants mais aussi de poser des débats géopolitiques fondamentaux pour l'avenir de la géopolitique de l'énergie. Depuis 2015, près de 30 pays industrialisés ont construit ou entamé des démarches pour constituer une feuille de route hydrogène. Le secteur engrange des succès. Les décideurs et le grand public sont et seront amenés à s'intéresser à l'hydrogène-énergie.
