This book was released on 2020-08-20 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is not a compilation of states, men, and circumstances. They adhere to a principle. They meet certain prerequisites. To speak on behalf of the America of Tocqueville, one must, at the very least, be its true and verified emanation. How can one represent the greatest democracy in the world without reflecting the values of the citizens who constitute it? Intellectually, this contradiction cannot be overcome! In his Recommended Letter to the American Embassy, Dr. Jacques- Raphaël Georges derailed a huge diplomatic machine that wanted to make the First Black Republic Independent of the world a “ SUB-COUNTRY” from where, from time to time, on the occasion of the carnival, the exhibition of an Indian chief dressed in a loincloth or a raid among the transvestites of the Côte- des- Arcadins, some grotesque clichés or stupid exoticism accommodates an eroticism that is no less so”. But by closing with a double turn anything that could draw attention to the crimes against the Haitian people. GENTLEMEN- ASSASSINS YOU MAY BEGIN !” Me. Gérard Georges

This book was released on 1995 with total page 1108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the last century (interpreted broadly) of the traditional western Middle Ages. Often seen as a time of doubt, decline and division, the period is shown here as a period of considerable innovation and development, much of which resulted from a conscious attempt by contemporaries to meet the growing demands of society and to find practical solutions to the social, religious and political problems which beset it. The volume consists of four sections. Part I focuses on both the ideas and other considerations which guided men as they sought good government, and on the practical development of representation. Part II deals with aspects of social and economic development at a time of change and expansion. Part III discusses the importance of the life of the spirit: religion, education and the arts. Moving from the general to the particular, Part IV concerns itself with the history of the countries of Europe, emphasis being placed on the growth of the nation states of the 'early modern' world.

Book Synopsis War and Competition between States by : Philippe Contamine
Download or read book War and Competition between States written by Philippe Contamine and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2000-11-23 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the five hundred years covered by this volume there was scarcely a year which passed without either war or some open demonstration of hostility between the many sovereign powers which governed Europe. States and peoples lived under the shadow of war, were ceaselessly prompted to consider the possibility of war, had to find ways of dealing with the consequences of war. This volume in the Origins of the Modern State in Europe series focuses on the crucial role of war in the formation of state systems. It starts from the assumption that interstate rivalries and conflicts were at the heart not only of the demarcation of territories, but also of the ever-growing need to mobilize resources for warfare. Institutionalization was consequently highly dependent on such competition. It was for military reasons, and with military aims, that the state secured control of time and space, both at sea and on land. The Origins of the Modern State in Europe series arises from an important international research programme sponsored by the European Science Foundation. The aim of the series, which comprises seven volumes, is to bring together specialists from different countries, who reinterpret from a comparative European perspective different aspects of the formation of the state over the long period from the beginning of the thirteenth to the end of the eighteenth century. One of the main achievements of the research programme has been to overcome the long-established historiographical tendency to regard states mainly from the viewpoint of their twentieth-century borders.

Book Synopsis On the End of the World by : Joseph Roth
Download or read book On the End of the World written by Joseph Roth and published by Pushkin Press. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful collection written on the eve of the destruction of Europe by the Second World War, by the great Joseph Roth Having fled to Paris in January 1933, on the very day Hitler seized power in Germany, Joseph Roth wrote a series of articles in that 'hour before the end of the world', that he foresaw was coming and which would see the full horror of Hitler's barbarism, the Second World War and most crucially for Roth, the final irreversible destruction of a pan European consciousness. Incisive and ironic, the writing evokes Roth's bitterness, frustration and morbid despair at the coming annihilation of the free world while displaying his great nostalgia for the Hapsburg Empire into which he was born and his ingrained fear of nationalism in any form.
