Book Synopsis Little Alfred, Another Lost Child by : Alfred H. Berger
Download or read book Little Alfred, Another Lost Child written by Alfred H. Berger and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-11-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many readers of this book may feel at a loss to feel the real people and how they felt. That is the purpose of telling it the way it was. No fakery, no embellishments, just the raw straight-from-the-hip truth. This is not fiction, this is fact. No deep seated love or caring, except for my grandmas and the Shermans, (may their goodness last for eternity) no affection, no deep looking into their souls for a little lost child nothing. These foster parents were paid and it was a job, just like any other job, thats all it was for them. I have no love or hate for these people, it was something that just happened. Nothing can change the past, it is long gone, one can only look back at it and try to remember the good times, and forget sorrowful and hurting times. This manuscript was submitted to a literary agent who liked it. There was just one problem, she wanted to change it, give it more impact, more pizzazz, make it stand out even if it meant putting in fiction. I didnt and wouldnt go for that. If I wanted this manuscript to be fiction with all its embellishments, Id write it as such.. what you will be reading is my life through my eyes as a child, with all its warts, cuts, bruises and ugliness. Its not perfect, its life.

Book Synopsis Understanding Pictures by : Dominic Lopes
Download or read book Understanding Pictures written by Dominic Lopes and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996-03-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is not one but many ways to picture the world - Australian `x-ray' pictures, cubist collages, Amerindian split-style figures, and pictures in two-point perspective each draw attention to different features of what they represent. The premise of Understanding Pictures is that this diversity is the central fact with which a theory of figurative pictures must reckon. Lopes argues that identifying pictures' subjects is akin to recognizing objects whose appearances have changed over time. He develops a schema for categorizing the different ways pictures represent—the different kinds of meaning they have—and he contends that depiction's epistemic value lies in its representational diversity. He also offers a novel account of the phenomenology of pictorial experience, comparing pictures to visual prostheses like mirrors and binoculars. The book concludes with a discussion of works of art which have made pictorial meaning their theme, demonstrating the importance of the issues this book raises for understanding the aesthetics of pictures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1962, Samuel K. Rubin founded 8mm Collector, the predecessor to Classic Images, a widely respected publication in the vintage film hobby that celebrates the golden age of Hollywood. He was instrumental in beginning the "vintage film fan movement," founding The Society for Cinephiles, as well as organizing the Cinecon vintage film conventions. This is simultaneously a history of the vintage film hobby, a history of Classic Images, and a memoir of Rubin's forty years in the center of the hobby's world. Rubin has drawn from his personal experiences with industry professionals from the silent and early sound era, and from his service during the more than 320 issues of Classic Images published since that magazine's inception. The book covers the birth of 8mm Collector and includes reviews of the classic films, reviews of books and videos of the early screen and profiles of classic film industry personalities. Classic Images still provides a medium for film enthusiasts to share their experiences with different vendors, buy and sell movie memorabilia, and generally covers the entire movie industry from the viewpoint of the collector.

Download or read book Sickert written by Wendy Baron and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Richard Sickert (1860-1942) was an artist of prodigious creativity. For sixty years, in his roles as painter, teacher, and polemicist, he was a source of inspiration and influence to successive generations of British painters. With his roots in the Victorian era, Sickert broke all taboos. He was uncompromisingly truthful, revealing beauty in the squalid as in the sublime: in cockney music halls, the crumbling streets of Dieppe, the grand sites of Venice, and the low-life of Camden Town. Decades before Warhol, he exploited the potential of photo-based imagery and of studio production lines to create iconic portraits of the grandees of theatrical, social, and political life. This catalogue is divided into two parts: essay chapters describe Sickert's chronology in terms of stylistic and technical development, and a fully illustrated catalogue presents more than 2800 drawings and paintings, many of which have never been published before.
