Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Do Business by Letter and Training Course in Conversational English There is just one way in which this practical skill can be given, and that is by educating the instinct. Use of former editions of this book in the classroom for several years past has clearly proved that it really makes successful letter writers by giving the business instinct. For one thing, the form, style, and arrangement of letters are so presented that the correct style is always before the student's eye, and he absorbs it almost unconsciously. A thing that is seen is learned in a mere fraction of the time required to master that which is merely talked about. Download or read book Problems and Principles of Correct English written by Sherwin Cody and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-04 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems and Principles of Correct English: Grammar, Punctuation, Rhetorical Criticism; Accompanied by "Dictionary of Errors" Constructive Composition More Important Than Don'ts. - Few bad sentence makers were ever cured by the medicine of don'ts. Positive skill (and with it positive accuracy) comes from vigorous use of the Franklin and Stevenson method of reading good models and practicing unceasingly on imitating them. Such practice is given by Exercises in Letter Writing (facsimile letters to be answered) arranged to accompany the book How to Do Business by Letter and Training Course in' Conversational English. A constructive interest in doing business makes pupils see the utility of correct English, and the teacher is supplied with ample material for continual classwork in personal detailed criticism and rewriting of poorly formed sentences. Habitual errors must be hammered on persistently if the bad habits are to be eradicated. That book contains as much formal work on gram mar as experience has shown it is possible to give in a six months' course without slighting the composition work. Purpose of This Book - This book is intended to supplement Exercises in Business Letter Writing when the course extends beyond six months, as it does in many high schools, and to supply a practical high school or college review course in correct English to accompany the advanced book How to Do Business by Letter and Advertising (inter national Edition) and the Literary Composition Drill Book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth analysis of language’s role as the tool and environment for human survival on Earth, examining its ability to provide an unlimited space for telling individual stories that bear the knowledge of mankind’s self-significance. The book is the result of a 20-year-long composite study of language phenomenology grounded in the interactions of Bulgarian and English, approached in a game-like fashion where the play with language units transcends levels of meanings based on significances, and explored through the four basic avatars of activated language: the learner, the teacher, the translator and the creator of texts. The book is divided into three sections: the first details the motivation for this study and the design of the method of exploration. This is followed by an application of this method to the talkative web in order to find ways of meeting the enormous demand for human content. The final section brings together the colourful practices of activated language movement. This book is not about the philosophy of language, per se. It is concerned with the practical field beyond the philosophy of language where the self-identification of the Subject is brought to a higher stage of communicative creativity. The rhetoric theory of argumentation is argued throughout the book to be the relevant ground for building a holistic tool of language learning where language acquisition is seen as the capability of the subject to construct worlds in a universe whose leading structure involves the rhetoric criteria of ethos, pathos and logos, on the one hand, and the self-identifying choice of meanings to situations of complex nature, on the other. As such, the book is primarily concerned with linguistics, rhetoric, semiotics of culture, ethics and language learning, viewed through a philosophical preoccupation with humanity.
