This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Best Practices Guidelines and Toolkit on Engaging the Private Sector in Skills Development”, jointly developed by UNDP IICPSD and Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries(SESRIC), will inspire, motivate and mobilize the private sector for its active engagement in skills training for employment. The guidelines and toolkit will help stakeholders to collaborate more closely with companies, chambers of commerce and business associations. It outlines how the private sector could contribute to the employability of individuals through providing labour market signals, improving technical and practical skills acquisition, integrating industry know-how and expertise to every step of the trainings and help link skills to placement opportunities. These will ensure that disadvantaged youth, women and other marginalized groups are ready to enter the labour force with possessing the right skills they need to thrive. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development highlights the importance of skills and lifelong learning not only to make individuals competitive in the labour market but also to empower people. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 reminds us that inclusive, quality education is critical for human development. SDG 8 reminds us that decent work and economic growth can only be achieved through productive capacities. The relationship between skills and employability is fundamental to the success of the SDGs — from eradicating poverty to achieving gender equality to empowering women and girls. Bridging the skills mismatch for greater employability will be a huge leap forward in achieving the SDGs. This publication guarantees to guide all stakeholders in the direction of improving the existing skills and reducing the skills mismatch for greater employability of the target groups. The Guidelines and Toolkit will complement existing UNDP work on sustainable employment and inclusive growth and augments the related efforts of other international organizations.

Book excerpt: Skill Wars shows how to increase productivity and profits by making investments in human capital development. It addresses the disparity between the available jobs and available workers. By education and training only 20% of all American workers can fit well into our demanding high-tech workplace. How do we train the 80%? Skill Wars defines the race between advanced technology investment and human resources investment and shows managers how to measure that investment. It introduces a Human Capital Scoreboard of seven new business management/measurement tools including a more accurate calculation of ROI (Return on Investment) for employee performance improvement programs. It also provides case studies of how quality training can deliver on more problem-solving/thinking skills. It has a foreword by Joseph Boyett, author of The Guru Guide and Workplace 2000. Skill Wars is a "basic workplace performance primer" that presents complex issues in a simple language and format that will move both business leaders and the American public to give their popular support. There are few viable alternatives. Gordon believes that, "Only at great peril can Americans continue to largely ignore the workplace as an important arena that helps structure learning for life."

This book was released on 2005-12-14 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A strong skill base is an important element of a productive and sustainable economy. The Department for Education and Skills spends around £6.7 billion on skills training in England, with an additional £23.7 billion being spent by employers. Despite this expenditure there are still skill shortages and the UK has low productivity compared to rival economies. This report follows two others on the subject: 'Skills for life: improving adult literacy and numeracy' (ISBN 0102931631); and 'Securing strategic leadership in the learning and skills sector in England' (ISBN 010293689). It is based on direct research with employers on how they want publicly funded training to be improved and whether it represents value for money. It is divided into four sections that look at the need for: clear advice on the best training for staff; training that meets business needs; incentives for employers to do more training; and ways that employers can influences skills training.

Book excerpt: In the early 1990s, people predicted the death of privacy, an end to the current concept of 'property,' a paperless society, 500 channels of high-definition interactive television, world peace, and the extinction of the human race after a takeover engineered by intelligent machines. Imagining the Internet zeroes in on predictions about the Internet's future and revisits past predictions—and how they turned out. It gives the history of communications in a nutshell, illustrating the serious impact of pervasive networks and how they will change our lives over the next century.
