Book Synopsis Postcolonial Astrology by : Alice Sparkly Kat
Download or read book Postcolonial Astrology written by Alice Sparkly Kat and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tapping into the political power of magic and astrology for social, community, and personal transformation. In a cross-cultural approach to understanding astrology as a magical language, Alice Sparkly Kat unmasks the political power of astrology, showing how it can be channeled as a force for collective healing and liberation. Too often, magic and astrology are divorced from their potency and cultural contexts: co-opted by neoliberalism, used as a force of oppression, or distilled beyond recognition into applications that belie their individual and collective power. By looking at the symbolic and etymological histories of the sun, moon, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter, we can trace and understand the politics of magic--and challenge our own practices, interrogate our truths, and reshape our institutions to build better frameworks for communities of care. Fearless, radical, and fresh, Sparkly Kat's Postcolonial Astrology ushers in a new wave of astrology revival, refusing to apologize for its magickism and connecting its power to the spirituality and politics we need now. Intersectional, inclusive, and geared towards queer and POC communities, it uses our historical and collective constructs of the planets, sun, and moon to re-chart our subconscious history, redefine the body in the world, and assert our politics of the personal, in astrology and all things.
Book Synopsis Christian Astrology by : William Lilly
Download or read book Christian Astrology written by William Lilly and published by Astrology Center of America. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named "Christian" to avoid hassles (some things never change), this is the most famous, the most celebrated astrology book in the English language. It has been prized by students ever since its first publication in 1647. The Horary Astrology in these pages, in the hands of a master, is no mere parlour game. It is demanding and precise, combining science and art. Properly used, it will give answer to any well-defined question. William Lilly, famous throughout England for his almanacs & forecasts (he predicted London's Great Fire of 1666), lived during the English Civil War & was a minor historical figure in it. Into his studio came the rich and poor, nobles and commoners, with problems great and small. This new edition restores Lilly's original page layouts, with marginalia. Modern spelling throughout, this edition includes Lilly's bibliography, his original index & a new glossary. Also includes his original woodblock charts, and their modern versions. This is Lilly's great work as he himself knew it. In this volume: Book 1, An Introduction to Astrology, containing the use of an ephemeris; the erecting of a scheme of heaven; nature of the twelve signs of the Zodiac, of the planets; with a most easy introduction to the whole art of astrology. Book 2, The Resolution of All Manner of Questions, by a most methodical way, instructs the student how to judge or resolve all manner of questions contingent unto man, viz, of health, sickness, riches, marriage, preferment, journeys, etc. Some 35 questions inserted and judged.
Book Synopsis The Zodiac by Degrees by : Martin Goldsmith
Download or read book The Zodiac by Degrees written by Martin Goldsmith and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2004-05-01 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zodiac by Degrees provides symbols and interpretations for each of the 360 degrees of the zodiac. These symbols make a direct connection with your basic spiritual energies and penetrate the private language of your personal mythology. For this second edition, every one of the 360 degrees has been reexamined from extensive lists of examples. In the end, about ninety degrees have undergone major changes and all of the rest have been clarified and sharpened. The result is a symbol system of unparalleled accuracy, and an indispensable tool for both amateur and practicing astrologers. The Zodiac by Degrees gave me serious goose bumps on several occasions. Inside of half an hour, the text had cleared up my ambivalence about the exact degree of my Ascendant and given me a new understanding of my Sun degree#8212one vastly more evocative than the traditional Sabian interpretation. Martin Goldsmith is a poet in the old sense of the word: he's on fi re with imagery and the fire is contagious." #8212Steven Forrest, author of The Inner Sky "At last! An astrologer who has undertaken the huge workload of intensive research into the individual degrees of the zodiac. Thanks to his years of work, Goldsmith has finally taken this area of astrology out of the misty, intuitive, 'channeled' area of the Sabian symbols onto the firmer and more reliable footing of good, grounded research. This long-needed book is therefore and essential reference work for any serious astrologer."#8212Bernadette Brady, author of Predictive Astrology

Book Synopsis Vargas: a Vedic Approach by : Raj Kumar
Download or read book Vargas: a Vedic Approach written by Raj Kumar and published by Sagar Publications. This book was released on with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vargas are the unique feature of Vedic astrology which has given it a definite edge over any other system in vogue. The primary aim of studying a Varga is two folds- to study a particular aspect of human life pertaining to a specific house and to find out the true strength of planets related with the house. A horoscope takes into account linear time and vertical declinations of the planets. Every division of zodiac has a corresponding division of time. Hence a Varga gives projections representing possibilities which might occur in different time frames. Each chart gives a microscopic view of a particular facet of life seen in the light of Dasha sequence. There are many tools available to assess the true strength of a planet. One set of rules rely on PAC of planets, their awasthas and yogas formed by them. The other, Nadi system, studies the effects of lords of sign, Nakshatra and Sub under which a planet is placed. At times these influences change the characteristics of a planet completely. In this book an attempt is made to unite the two systems to get the true strength of planets. In order to understand a planet and its significations in a better way, a comparative study of planets in birth and divisional charts has also been made. This book shall add to precision and accuracy of probable events and their qualitative effects on various aspects related to a native and as such will be of great use to serious students of astrology.
Book Synopsis Longevity: a Vedic Approach by : Raj Kumar
Download or read book Longevity: a Vedic Approach written by Raj Kumar and published by Sagar Publications. This book was released on with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The correct judgement of longevity is highly complex, but is equally important and sought after. “Knowing longeity is difficult even for gods” said sage Parashar. Any prediction made without considering it may make the prediction a laughing stock of both the astrologer and astrology. The time span between birth and death of a native is called his longevity. Longevity and death are not the same but are closely related. However it is not yet clear what death is. Our scriptures have at various places equated death with different types of Mrityu Tulya agonies which are different from physical death. Again the destiny of each one of us is interlinked with our close kith and kin and our relationship with them is pre-determined, predestined and irrevocable. Death is severing of final link of a native with them. Hence a native’s death must get corroborated / confirmed in the horoscopes of his close relations. An attempt is made in this book to address all such issues. The book is a study of about 225 natives who had lived and died in different countries at different time, at different age and of different causes, applying known tools of astrology. The book is an attempt to help clear some mist and enable to have a better judgement of longevity.
Book Synopsis Carmen Astrologicum by : Dorotheus of Sidon
Download or read book Carmen Astrologicum written by Dorotheus of Sidon and published by Astrology Center of America. This book was released on 2005 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dorotheus of Sidon, who appears to have lived in Alexandria, flourished in the first century AD. He wrote his Pentateuch (five books) on astrology in Greek, in verse. This translation, from 1976 by David Pingree, is from a fourth century Pahlavi (Persian) source. The first book is on the judgement of nativities. Book two concerns marriage and children. Book three is on the length of life. Book four is on the transfer of years, i.e., forecasting. Book five is on interrogations, i.e., electional astrology. In this book are the earliest known astrological charts. Dorotheus bases much of his interpretative methods on the triplicity rulers, by day and by night. All fire signs have the same rulers. All earth signs have their rulers, as do air and water signs. He uses Egyptian terms. He, like the Greeks of his day, also uses the Dodecatemoria, which are the twelfths of a sign. And many, many lots, all defined. For the first time in this edition: Pingree's Preface newly translated. An appendix with charts in modern format. A complete table of terms and triplicity rulers. A table to calculate Dodecatemoria. Newly reset to match Pingree's original 1976 edition. Written a century before Ptolemy, here is the mainstream of Greek astrology. It will handsomely repay study.

Book Synopsis Inside the Cosmic Mind by : Phoebe Wyss
Download or read book Inside the Cosmic Mind written by Phoebe Wyss and published by Floris Books. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phoebe Wyss, an experienced astrologer, here examines all aspects of astrology in the light of the emerging worldview known as archetypal cosmology. She sets out by exploring the classical roots of astrology in sources of wisdom found in the ancient Egyptian mysteries. She then follows the tradition to modern times through C.G. Jung's ideas on the nature of the psyche. She also discovers that the claims of astrology are entirely compatible with new cosmological thinking as envisioned by post-modern physics and chaos theory. In the second part of the book, she proposes that the mathematical basis of astrology and the components of astrological charts are both archetypal and cosmic in scope. She argues that the twelve astrological archetypes make up a single 'cosmic mind', whose patterns are imprinted on all our individual minds. Finally, she exemplifies this radical approach to astrology through an interpretation of the chart of William Blake.
Book Synopsis On the Heavenly Spheres by : Helena Avelar
Download or read book On the Heavenly Spheres written by Helena Avelar and published by American Federation of Astr. This book was released on 2010 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thousands of years ago, people first observed a correlation between the heavenly bodies and events on Earth. Out of these early observations and subsequent refinements came what today is known as astrology. For most of these millennia, astrologers used only the seven visible planets: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. It is out of this tradition that Helena Avelar and Luis Ribeiro have written this extensive book on astrology. The rules and principles here presented apply to all branches of astrologyA natal, mundane, horary and elective. Their method is the traditional and time-honored one, and includes, among others, chapters on: The Planets The Zodiac and the Signs The Essential Dignities The Houses The Aspects Chart Dynamics The Condition of the Planets The Fixed Stars The Parts The Power of the Planets Using this traditional method, it is possible not only to thoroughly and completely read the natal chart but to do so with a breadth and depth of meaning not found in the modern methods of astrological interpretation. It avoids cookbook-type methods and centers on the practical understanding of the astrological concepts, presenting the Tradition in present-day language. In addition, more than two hundred fifty illustrations make the traditional principles easy to understand and use in chart interpretation. This practical how-to book is one of a kind, and the one that will teach you the traditional methods and you reach into the past to benefit from the knowledge of the authors and astrologers from ancient Babylonia through the medieval period. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced students, as it provides the indispensable core of astrological knowledge, at the same time allowing more experienced students to organize their knowledge into a coherent system.
Book Synopsis Brady's Book of Fixed Stars by : Bernadette Brady
Download or read book Brady's Book of Fixed Stars written by Bernadette Brady and published by Weiser Books. This book was released on 2024-08-05 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A richly detailed, in-depth look at fixed stars and their role in affecting astrological predictions. Since prehistory, humanity has been held in thrall by the night sky, captivated by the mystery of the stars. Seeking to make sense of such a magical overhead landscape, people used the stars to relate beliefs, creation stories, and mythologies. And just as the fixed stars have ancient origins in human life, their astrological interpretations get right to the heart of our lives. Celebrated astrologer Bernadette Brady melds modern astrological techniques with Egyptian and early Greek mythology to bring astrologers to a deeper understanding of the horoscope and provides delineations for using fixed stars in chart interpretation. Her methods open a window on the fixed stars, revealing how a major star in a person’s chart indicates the stage of life in which it is active and how it affirms the person’s life journey through the mythology that the star represents. Though the fixed stars have been watched and studied for all of human history, Brady’s Book of Fixed Stars continues to be the astrological bible for how to use them in practice. This is an essential resource that should be on every astrologer’s bookshelf. The book includes Paran maps, star maps, star phases, and mythologies for over sixty stars, New insights into the natal use of fixed stars, as well as their use in mundane astrology, Extensive appendices of graphs and tables to help astrologers find rising or setting dates for any given location, And a listing of 176 stars with their 21st-century positions. Originally published by Weiser Books in 1999, this Weiser Classics edition includes a new foreword by Chloe Margherita.
