Book excerpt: Millions of Christians around the world are becoming aware of an imminent reformation of global proportions within the church. God is changing this revered institution and is making a new collective awareness of an age-old revelation, a corporate spiritual echo that reflects God's desire for the church. In this book, Simson brings to light what God is saying to Christians everywhere. Researched across the globe, he presents the case for the reformation of the church's existence. In a world where the church is being ignored, it is time to bring the church to the people and not the people to the church. Whether it is what we know as church from the last five years or the last five hundred years, no one has truly been able to break free from the structures of the past. Many may see this book as radical, many may see it as a reforming of old ideals but all who read it will be challenged and their priorities refocused in a life-changing way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual management is required for spiritual organization, and yet a ministry’s master plan should be the Master’s plan for that ministry. Church and Ministry Strategic Planning assists readers in developing a Biblically based blueprint for carrying out the many activities in which the church or ministry is involved. The authors show clearly how careful planning is inspired by the Scriptures (“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?”--Luke 14:28) and how it improves making decisions today which ultimately affect the ministry’s effectiveness tomorrow. Church and Ministry Strategic Planning covers all areas of this type of planning and can be read and reviewed quickly. Through the use of a model of the strategic planning process, the authors show how to develop mission statements, define strategic objectives, develop strategy options and operating strategies, appraise performance, and monitor strategic planning. Readers are led step-by-step through these key areas of creating a strategic plan. Examples and worksheets at the end of each chapter enable pastors, administrators, and lay leaders to develop a strategic plan fitting to their specific ministry or church. The appendixes provide tools used in planning as well as a complete sample strategic plan for a large church. Put these concepts to immediate use in decisionmaking and pursue God’s purpose and vision for the church or ministry. If readers take the time and effort to study this book, apply its format, and prayerfully keep God in every step of the plan, here is what the authors believe plan administrators can expect: 1. A sense of enthusiasm in the church or ministry 2. A 5-year plan in writing to which everyone is committed 3. A sense of commitment by the entire church to its overall direction 4. Time for the leaders to do what they have been called to do 5. Clear job duties and responsibilities 6. Clear and evident improvement in the health and vitality of every member of the church staff 7. Measurable improvement in the personal lives of all those in responsible positions with time for vacations, family, and personal pursuits 8.The ability to measure very specifically, the growth and contribution made by senior pastors or evangelists at the close of their careers 9. Guaranteed leadership of the church or ministry because a plan is in place--in writing--and is understood. Even more importantly, a management team and philosophy will be in place to guide the church or ministry into its next era of growth Explore this Biblical perspective on planning and develop a strategic plan that is systematic and continuous and allows the church or ministry to assess its market position, establish goals, objectives, priorities, and strategies to be completed within specified time periods, achieve greater staff and member commitment and teamwork aimed at meeting challenges and solving problems, and muster its resources to meet these changes through anticipation.

Book excerpt: God is getting His Church ready for coming revival, a great ingathering of the harvest, and end-time persecution. The Great Commission can be fulfilled very quickly by a multiplication of simple house-churches. "If the Church will look at your simple but thorough description of what the New Testament Church looked like, and return to that simplicity, we truly can see the Great Commission fulfilled in our time." - Jim Montgomery, DAWN Ministries "This is the simplest book you'll ever find on the house church, yet it still covers all the basics: practical matters like finances, how to handle blabbermouths, and what to do with the kids. It also covers, very concisely, the foundational matters. Easy reading from a sophisticated writer." - James H. Rutz, Open Church Ministries "As I read God's Simple Plan for His Church, by Nate Krupp, I was struck with the impression that this man was not giving forth theory or philosophy, but rather the deep convictions coming out of years of experience and study. I can see God's Simple Plan being used as a reference book by house church planters and leaders from now until Jesus comes back." - Robert Fitts, Sr., House-church planter "I'm returning to Russia with strong plans to do this work in my country, to renew the Church in the Spirit of Christ. I know I'm not alone in this job, because of your book." - (name withheld), Professor in Moscow, Russia

Book excerpt: While the House Church Movement is gaining immense popularity throughout many denominational and independent faith communities""collectively standing as the largest "denomination" in the United States""sacramental and liturgical congregations are taking only the most tentative steps toward this venue of worship. Consequently, there exists a vacuum of guidelines or information to support this dynamic ministry model from a uniquely sacramental perspective. In this book, Dr. Andraeas examines the scriptural foundations for liturgical worship; the biblical, theological, and historical precedents for house churches; and how a union between priestly liturgy and house church worship complement and support each other. He concludes with a vigorous challenge for all sacramental and liturgical jurisdictions to engage their seminarians, clergy, and people in embracing this approach to church planting, evangelism, and community ministry while offering thoughtful and obtainable recommendations.

Book excerpt: Evangelicalism is in trouble. Surveying the modern evangelical landscape, professor Michael Svigel asks, "Why does evangelicalism appear to be spinning out of control, losing appeal to younger generations, dwindling in numbers, or selling out to pop culture to muster a crowd?" He seeks to answer this question by looking to the past—to a Retro Christianity. Calling for a return to evangelicalism's historical and theological roots, Svigel begins by addressing some of present-day evangelicalism's problems and explores what can be done to help churches regain a healthy perspective on doctrine. He then gives practical examples of what establishing a biblical, historical, and theologically sound foundation will mean for Christians as they think through aspects of church life and worship. As the numbers of those confused or disenchanted with evangelicalism continue to grow, Svigel's book meets a timely need and will benefit many readers with his balanced argument for preserving the evangelical faith.

Book excerpt: It behooves those who teach in the church to be aware that proper teaching in the church involves the Word of Christ, and by implication Jesus Christ. Thus, Christ education is the word of the day; meaning that first and foremost Jesus Christ must be central to teaching; second, that His Word is to be presented and taught, not opinions or traditions; and finally, as God has created all things by Christ, we should be concerned with how people develop and learn, since we are all created with the God-provided stages in our education process. This study aimed at learning if Christ education, i.e. 'Christ-Ed' was being applied by teachers in local Christian churches.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small group resources tend to overlook the spiritual side of small group leadership. And yet most would agree that spiritual preparation is the most important aspect of leading a small group. Only Gods supernatural power can draw people to the truth and liberate them to be all that God wants them to be. The key distinction of this book is the spiritual perspective it gives to small group ministry. So much of the literature about small groups that is already published relates to small group technique and only touches briefly on the Spirits power. This book is a practical reference guide to help small group leadership begin to move in the supernatural realm. The books first priority is to help small group leaders and members trust the Holy Spirit to lead them, empower them and work in their group. Small group facilitators often sense a lack of guidance, power and spiritual authority. Jesus knew His disciples would be powerless without a touch from the Holy Spirit, and so He told them to wait in Jerusalem, saying, You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Small group leaders need a power boost to make small group ministry relevant and exciting. The second priority of this book is to help the facilitator identify and mobilize each small group member to use his or her own spiritual gifts.

Book excerpt: Many Christians have grown up with a very limited concept of "missions" and "missionaries." In this view a missionary is a person who goes and preaches to lots of people, often in primitive lands, and explains the theology of the gospel. The natives are convinced and become Christians. Thus the gospel commission is fulfilled. Actual missions have not been carried out in this way very much. Missionaries are generally very aware of the personal aspect of their activities, and the importance of hospitality. But western churches have become much less attuned to hospitality. The days are past when visitors could assume they'd be invited home for lunch or become personally connected to people in a church they visit. But hospitality is a key concept, and a key practice, in the Bible, both in Old and New Testament times. This involved both God's relationship with his people, in which some "entertained angels," in their relationships with one another, and in the way they reached the world with the good news God had given to them. Chris Freet examines the biblical idea of hospitality, the role it played in biblical times, and the example that provides for us. He concludes that the western church needs to be re-awakened to the mutual and reciprocal biblical definition of hospitality; that it must undergo some contextualization in order for the biblical role of hospitality and the "person of peace" to work in it; and (3) it must transition from short-term encounters of hospitality in the West to long-term relationships as the family of God. This is a serious theological examination, but it is also both a challenge and a practical guide to help us get started in giving hospitality the role in our churches that the biblical story envisions.

Book excerpt: In a church culture becoming increasingly focused on "cultural relevance," how can leaders guide their church in a way that returns to the Bible and honors God? Throughout his years of ministry, this was a question Jason Shepperd continued to ask. Many churches around him were focusing their resources internally instead of making disciples and meeting needs, and Jason knew God wanted more for the Church and for his people. In Church Project, Jason shares how God led them to structure the church and return to biblical church planting. He explains how their church has stayed committed to their core principles and helped their congregation to live out these values. Jason's desire is to share the lessons God has taught him over the years, and to guide church leaders seeking to return their churches to God's true plan for his people.
