Their eventual union is well worth the wait, and made even sweeter by watching them overcome their struggles in order to discover their true selves." - Sasha Klimchock, Reedsy Shawn Cobb thought he'd found the perfect girl... until she fell in love with another woman. It could be worse: he did get a vintage car out of the deal. But now his job is at a standstill, he's running out of cash, and he's stuck with a 1954 Chevy Bel Air that refuses to stay running. With idle hands, all he can think about is his own misfortune... until a buxom bartender needs his help with a sticky situation. Jess White is a mechanic by day, bartender by night– with a sexy athlete boyfriend to boot. And things are starting to get serious: so serious, that her boyfriend wants her to give up her day job at her dad's garage. But when her dad kicks her out of the house and a heartbroken handyman leans on her expertise to get his vintage hot rod road-ready, she questions why she ever hung up the wrench in the first place. After all, he seems to like it when she gets her hands dirty... Can the two of them get away with mixing work and pleasure? Or is this whole affair about to backfire? Hot Rod Hookups is a contemporary romance with themes of small town life, coming of age, and finding purpose. It is the stand-alone sequel to Betting on the House

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn how to build an affordable hot rod following the advice of the masters! In How to Build Affordable Hot Rods, author and lifelong hot rod aficionado Tony Thacker takes you through the process of building a hot rod on a budget. Drawing on his own extensive experience of both buying and building rods, Thacker explores the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good was setting a land speed record at Bonneville, the bad was buying a rod from which the previous owner had "swapped out" the good engine, and the ugly--well, let’s just not go there. How to Build Affordable Hot Rods includes extensive how-to sections that cover step-by-step chassis builds for Model A, 1932, and 1936 Fords, including front- and rear-end setups. The in-depth chassis builds are complimented with sections on powertrain choices, bodywork and roof chops, wheels and tires, and wiring and paint. Also included are chapters on interiors and the all-important details that individualize any project to ensure that it stands out from the rest. When Henry Ford introduced his beloved Model T, he unwittingly gave the average person the means to go racing. Prior to the T, racing was mostly a sport of the rich, but that changed with the Model T. Stripped of fenders and hopped up with speed parts, T speedsters ruled, and it wasn’t long before enthusiasm on the track translated to the street and the term hot rod entered the vernacular. Of course, it didn’t need to be a Ford (and still doesn’t), but the easiest and therefore cheapest route to Hot Rod Boulevard is down the Ford road. The journey accelerated after World War II, as hot rodding boomed with the growth of speed shops, car shows, drag racing, talented and trained GIs returning home, and the launch of Hot Rod magazine to spread the gospel far and wide. More than 100 years after the original Model T, hot rodding remains alive and well in the Australasia, Europe, and (of course) its birthplace the US.

Learn from the best and get started building your affordable hot rod today!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot Rodding began in Southern California in the 1930s and had spread throughout the United States by the mid 1950s, spawning the sport of drag racing and the advent of the Detroit "muscle cars" of the '60s and '70s. Hot Rod Magazine and the National Hot Rod Association promoted the formation of responsible car clubs to combat the delinquent reputation of hot rodders, earned through illegal street races and Hollywood's portrayal in "B" movies. And thus were born the Middletown Pacemakers in 1951. The Pacemakers brought southern Ohio its first reliability runs (1952), custom auto shows (1954), and drag racing competitions-setting national records (1958, '63, '64) and winning national championships (1963, '64, '65). When the hot rodders were not busy upgrading their drive train for more horsepower or "chopping" and "channeling" for improved performance, they could often be seen on the streets of Middletown feeding expired parking meters or rescuing motorists whose cars had broken down or run out of gas. By 1966, as was the fate of so many hot rod clubs, the mass production of Detroit muscle cars ushered the Pacemakers to fold.

Because when Harry is around—and even when he isn’t—very strange things seem to happen. Like a moose goring a dune buggy to death. And the fixation of the local police with the mysterious Flapper Gang. And who could forget Victoria, Harry’s winsome mother who daily faces the many challenges of keeping her husband Bull alive and in one piece and her family one step removed from another calamity. Add a full cast of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and several other hapless and sometimes flirtatious creatures, and you have a recipe for mishaps and hilarity. And then there’s Harry himself: only son, besotted with his ever-expanding bug and coin collections, naïve to the wiles of certain young ladies of his acquaintance and never far from his own misadventures. The Care and Feeding of Harry is a fun- filled tale of Forrest Gumpian proportions. Prepare to enter Harry’s world, where nothing is sacred and each story is full of wit and irreverence. And find out why he detests chocolate.

Book excerpt: As a 115 lb. teenager drafted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict, Donald Huard was laughed at, taunted and bullied by other recruits. He met his military responsibilities effectively, however, facing the potential for a military court martial during one tour of duty before his honorable discharge in 1954. His is an interesting soldier's story. Determined to get a college education, Don used his G I Bill to get his associate's and bachelor's degrees. Then, with the firm support of his wife and four children over a very long period of seventeen years he managed to meet the requirements for his master's and Ph.D. degrees in psychology with minors in criminology and business. His is a very successful story of constructive determination. How does one recover at the age of 50 as the loving father of four teenagers grieving the loss of their mother? How does he rebuild his own life following such sadness? Eventually, Don met and married Margie, the wonderful lady who enabled him to live again. Theirs is an interesting story of true love. In his early eighties now, Dr. Huard tells his story in this, his own personal autobiography, written slowly over the last 25 years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story from inside the child psychologist's room. Victor, who is two and a half years old, has lost his mother and younger brother in a car accident. He is 'sunny and happy' and does not cry. He is a child in deep crisis and comes for a crisis therapy. In this book we will follow Victor for his fifteen treatment sessions. He shows through play and activities how he is followed and piloted through his grief by his therapist. The healing by play therapy is depicted in words and pictures out of the perspective of both patient and therapist. The crisis therapy will work as the first link into a new future. In spite of the tragic reasons for the meetings, A Big and a Little One is Gone is a documentary story which brings both hope and courage.
