Book Synopsis Hot Mix Asphalt Voids Acceptance Review of QC/QA Data 2000 Through 2010 by : Veronica DeLuccie
Download or read book Hot Mix Asphalt Voids Acceptance Review of QC/QA Data 2000 Through 2010 written by Veronica DeLuccie and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report analyzes the quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) data for hot mix asphalt (HMA) using voids acceptance as the testing criteria awarded in the years 2000 through 2010. Analysis of the overall performance of the projects is accomplished by reviewing the Calculated Pay Factor Composite (CPFC) and Incentive/Disincentive Payments (I/DP). Analysis of each of the elements: asphalt content, voids in mineral aggregate (VMA), air voids, mat density, and joint density is presented in tables, figures, and reports. Various data groupings are used to evaluate the data including: year, region, and grading. The specification and the projects are performing reasonably well. The results for the data show that quality of the projects is remaining fairly consistent. No definite upward or downward trends can be seen in the data. Over the eleven-year time period more projects have received incentive payments than disincentive payments. The average CPFC over the eleven years evaluation is 1.00569. The quality levels in the individual elements are at relatively high levels. The VMA and mat density elements show the best results being above 93 percent within the specification limits. The asphalt content and air voids elements are at approximately 90 percent. The joint density pay factor is under 1.0 but is expected to rise as contractors gain experience in this area.

This book was released on 2004 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 531: Relationship of Air Voids, Lift Thickness, and Permeability in Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavements provides guidance for hot-mix asphalt pavement construction designed to achieve satisfactory levels of in-place air voids and permeability. This guidance was developed from the findings of a research project that examined the relationship of air voids content to permeability and hot-mix asphalt lift thickness. The full finding of the research were published as NCHRP Web Document 68"--Publisher's description.
Book Synopsis Principles of Construction of Hot-mix Asphalt Pavements by : Asphalt Institute
Download or read book Principles of Construction of Hot-mix Asphalt Pavements written by Asphalt Institute and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The manual is intended to provide information for the quality control of hot-mix asphalt pavements. Although emphasis is placed on the duties and responsibilities of asphalt inspectors, good quality control procedures must also involve other personnel who should understand quality control procedures and efficient plant and paving practices. The manual also details all aspects of hot-mix asphalt pavement construction from the initial acceptance of the aggregate and asphalt to the laying and compaction.

Download or read book In-place Voids Monitoring of Hot Mix Asphalt Pavements written by Donna S. Harmelink and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1995, the Colorado Department of Transportation implemented the Superpave gyratory mix design to select the optimum asphalt content of a mixture. The optimum asphalt content was not the same as what the department had historically used. The purpose of this study was to gather data to validate the number of gyrations that should be used with the Superpave mix design. Based on the data gathered from the 25 evaluation sections, the optimal number of design gyrations for the Field Mixed/Lab Compacted material is too high. Mixes appear to be too stiff for the traffic and environmental conditions.
