Book Synopsis Will Bradley's Graphic Art by : Will Bradley
Download or read book Will Bradley's Graphic Art written by Will Bradley and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2017-01-18 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will Bradley (1868–1962) was among the first American artists to realize the immense possibilities creative design held for the business world. Experimenting with typefaces, decorative illustrations, layouts, and print, he produced posters, advertisements, book designs, and magazine covers that were practical as well as striking and original works of art. At the turn of the century, Bradley was in the forefront of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, and his iconic posters from the 1890s brought Art Nouveau into the forefront of American graphic art and advertising design. This full-color volume contains more than 100 examples of Bradley's finest work, revealing his skills as artist, illustrator, type designer, advertiser, and printer. From his earliest asymmetrical, curvilinear designs through his elegant adaptation of the Art Nouveau style, his bold typefaces, and his book illustrations, this collection reveals the wide and versatile range of Bradley's art. This edition includes Bradley's extremely readable "Notes Toward an Autobiography," tracing the artist's life from his work as a printer's devil in Michigan through his career as an art supervisor for the vast Hearst printing empire. Bradley's reminiscences offer not only a personal introduction to his art but also fascinating glimpses of America during a colorful bygone era.
Book Synopsis The Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology by : Ian Douglas
Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology written by Ian Douglas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-12-21 with total page 1163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The birds, animals, insects, trees and plants encountered by the majority of the world’s people are those that survive in, adapt to, or are introduced to, urban areas. Some of these organisms give great pleasure; others invade, colonise and occupy neglected and hidden areas such as derelict land and sewers. Urban areas have a high biodiversity and nature within cities provides many ecosystem services including cooling the urban area, reducing urban flood risk, filtering pollutants, supplying food, and providing accessible recreation. Yet, protecting urban nature faces competition from other urban land uses. The Handbook of Urban Ecology analyses this biodiversity and complexity and provides the science to guide policy and management to make cities more attractive, more enjoyable, and better for our own health and that of the planet. This Handbook contains 50 interdisciplinary contributions from leading academics and practitioners from across the world to provide an in-depth coverage of the main elements of practical urban ecology. It is divided into six parts, dealing with the philosophies, concepts and history of urban ecology; followed by consideration of the biophysical character of the urban environment and the diverse habitats found within it. It then examines human relationships with urban nature, the health, economic and environmental benefits of urban ecology before discussing the methods used in urban ecology and ways of putting the science into practice. The Handbook offers a state-of the art guide to the science, practice and value of urban ecology. The engaging contributions provide students and practitioners with the wealth of interdisciplinary information needed to manage the biota and green landscapes in urban areas.
Book Synopsis Logo, Font & Lettering Bible by : Leslie Cabarga
Download or read book Logo, Font & Lettering Bible written by Leslie Cabarga and published by North Light Books. This book was released on 2004-02-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a hands-on guide to the entire process of making logos and fonts and even icons, all of which, essentially, start with the ability to draw letterforms. The intent of the book, in fact, is to enable the user to end reliance on "OPF" (other people's fonts) and learn to draw your own custom logos, fonts and lettering! Logo, Font & Lettering Bible is unique in that it teaches you how to create logos and fonts from scratch using traditional tools as well as the computer programs Adobe Illustrator and Fontographer (plus a bit about FontLab). The book provides all the traditional rules and tips about letter formation relating to proportion, shaping, balance, spacing, composition and actually teaches five different methods of drawing letters on computer using bezier curves. There has never been a book like this one that goes into so much detail about drawing letters and takes such a fun and irreverent approach while doing so. The book is also full of inspiration and analysis of tons of great examples of vintage and current lettering from old manuscripts to graffiti. Logo, Font & Lettering Bible also shows you how to create fancy drop shadows and other type effects. And finally, the last section provides straight talk on the business of being a logo and font designer, from advertising your work and pricing to dealing with difficult clients (aren't they all?).
Book Synopsis Principles of Verifiable RTL Design by : Lionel Bening
Download or read book Principles of Verifiable RTL Design written by Lionel Bening and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-05-31 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Principles of Verifiable RTL Design offered a common sense method for simplifying and unifying assertion specification by creating a set of predefined specification modules that could be instantiated within the designer's RTL. Since the release of the first edition, an entire industry-wide initiative for assertion specification has emerged based on ideas presented in the first edition. This initiative, known as the Open Verification Library Initiative (www.verificationlib.org), provides an assertion interface standard that enables the design engineer to capture many interesting properties of the design and precludes the need to introduce new HDL constructs (i.e., extensions to Verilog are not required). Furthermore, this standard enables the design engineer to `specify once,' then target the same RTL assertion specification over multiple verification processes, such as traditional simulation, semi-formal and formal verification tools. The Open Verification Library Initiative is an empowering technology that will benefit design and verification engineers while providing unity to the EDA community (e.g., providers of testbench generation tools, traditional simulators, commercial assertion checking support tools, symbolic simulation, and semi-formal and formal verification tools). The second edition of Principles of Verifiable RTL Design expands the discussion of assertion specification by including a new chapter entitled `Coverage, Events and Assertions'. All assertions exampled are aligned with the Open Verification Library Initiative proposed standard. Furthermore, the second edition provides expanded discussions on the following topics: start-up verification; the place for 4-state simulation; race conditions; RTL-style-synthesizable RTL (unambiguous mapping to gates); more `bad stuff'. The goal of the second edition is to keep the topic current. Principles of Verifiable RTL Design, A Functional Coding Style Supporting Verification Processes, Second Edition tells you how you can write Verilog to describe chip designs at the RTL level in a manner that cooperates with verification processes. This cooperation can return an order of magnitude improvement in performance and capacity from tools such as simulation and equivalence checkers. It reduces the labor costs of coverage and formal model checking by facilitating communication between the design engineer and the verification engineer. It also orients the RTL style to provide more useful results from the overall verification process.

Book Synopsis Practical Geometric Pattern Design by : Mirosław Majewski
Download or read book Practical Geometric Pattern Design written by Mirosław Majewski and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is third in a series of textbooks on geometric pattern design used at the Istanbul Design Center. It is intended as a tutorial book for 30 hours basic course on geometric patterns in Islamic arts. The content of this book covers some major areas of geometric pattern design. In chapter 2 we discuss how one can approach a complex geometric pattern. It is the most important part in understanding the general structure of any pattern. In chapter 3 we discuss and experiment with patterns built on triangular grids and square grids. This is the simplest group of geometric patterns and usually neglected. In chapters 4 and 5 we deal with 6 and 12 fold patterns. These are the patterns with local symmetries D6 and D12. Usually, we refer to them as hexagonal and dodecagonal patterns. In chapters 6 and 7 we discuss octagonal patterns. Here we also briefly discuss differences between eastern (Central Asia and India) and western octagonal patterns (Morocco and Spain). Finally, in chapter 8 we discuss briefly decagonal patterns, i.e. patterns with D10 local symmetries. More about decagonal patterns readers can find in two other books published by Istanbul Design Publishing in 2019.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Handbook of Technology and Employee Behavior by : Richard N. Landers
Download or read book The Cambridge Handbook of Technology and Employee Behavior written by Richard N. Landers and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 1435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experts from across all industrial-organizational (IO) psychology describe how increasingly rapid technological change has affected the field. In each chapter, authors describe how this has altered the meaning of IO research within a particular subdomain and what steps must be taken to avoid IO research from becoming obsolete. This Handbook presents a forward-looking review of IO psychology's understanding of both workplace technology and how technology is used in IO research methods. Using interdisciplinary perspectives to further this understanding and serving as a focal text from which this research will grow, it tackles three main questions facing the field. First, how has technology affected IO psychological theory and practice to date? Second, given the current trends in both research and practice, could IO psychological theories be rendered obsolete? Third, what are the highest priorities for both research and practice to ensure IO psychology remains appropriately engaged with technology moving forward?
