Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narratives in Genesis 1-11 have been misunderstood in many ways, but they especially have been used to oppress women and African Americans and to present a God of wrath and judgment. This commentary seeks to explain the real message behind those narratives, which is one that speaks of human dignity and equality, that affirms monotheism, that criticizes kings and tyrants, that declares our oneness with the animal realm and nature, and that proclaims a powerful message of divine grace with a deity personally involved in the human world. Humor may also be found in some of these stories. These biblical passages can be best explicated by close reading as well as by knowledge of comparable stories from the ancient Near East and from the classical world, and finally by knowledge of the concomitant social and political values connected with those other myths and narratives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gerd Lüdemann and other Gospel scholars debated the question of the resurrection with William Lane Craig and failed to show that the story of Jesus’ burial by Joseph of Arimathea was not historical, and that there is another burial story in the Gospel of John (19:31–33). Joseph Codsi invites them to read this book and discuss this question all over again. In addition, the second part of this book is about repressed memories in the Gospel of Mark. So far, scholars have discussed what is said overtly in the sacred texts. They did not notice the existence of enigmatic texts that “do not mention what they know, hide what organizes them, and unveil solely by their form what they erase from their content.” What those texts reveal is that, in the last phase of his life, Jesus received special revelations concerning God’s plans for Israel. According to those plans, the temple sacrifices will become obsolete and the Passover meal will be celebrated anywhere in the world, not just in Jerusalem. When Jesus revealed this to the five and four thousand people, they recognized in him the prophet who was to come, and they wanted to make him king.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Holy-Days and Holidays: A Treasury of Historical Material, Sermons in Full and in Brief, Suggestive Thoughts and Poetry Relating to Holy Days and Holidays HE object of this book is to help busy people in our busy age to find and enjoy the very best that has been written on the vital events and great men whose memory society is trying to perpetuate. The attempt has not been made to treat all the saints' days and special days Of the ecclesiastical calendar. Only the most important days, such as are com memorative of the most significant facts and principles of the Christian faith, have been dealt with. On the other hand, days and anniversaries not in the Church calendars are included, such as Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Day and Old Year Day - occasions which are rich in suggestion to thoughtful minds. This work includes, besides the most important secular legal holidays, the anniversaries most widely observed in America, Great Britain, Ireland, and Canada. As moral and educational influences, holy days and holidays are of inestimable value. For an example, the stimulus to Christian gratitude and patriotism that comes from the annual observance of Thanksgiving Day throughout the nation cannot easily be exaggerated. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the stories of Israelite complaint or murmuring in the wilderness found in the books of Exodus and Numbers that were composed and edited by the priesthood of ancient Israel. It discusses the significance of the theme of rebellion and complaint for the ancient priests and analyses the part they played in the development of the theme in the Pentateuch. After a general introduction on the theme of murmuring and on the Priestly School, the book goes on to analyze four major priestly texts: the manna story (Exodus 16); the story of the Scouts (Numbers 13-14); the story of the rebellions surrounding the figure of Korah (Numbers 16-17) and the story of the Waters of Merivah (Numbers 20). The significance of the book is two-fold. First, it develops a methodology that allows one to discriminate between early priestly narrative materials and later priestly editorial supplementation. Second, the work demonstrates the antiquity of the priestly narrative lore in the Pentateuch and the significant role which the priests played in creating and developing major narrative traditions in ancient Israel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ronald L. Robbins, author, is a dedicated Christian, writer, teacher, deacon, and choir singer. He was married for forty-five years until his wife passed away with cancer (nearly fourteen years ago). They had two children, a girl and a boy, together, and now he has four grandchildren. He is close to his daughter and son (their spouses) and four grandchildren. Ronald is a graduate from Indiana University with a BS degree in quantitative business analysis and is an Air Force veteran (four years active duty and two years in Reserves). His passion is to witness for Jesus Christ, teach two weekly classes of the Bible, and sing praises to the Lord with the church choir. It seems two other passions have been appearing recently: to go back to learning to play the piano that was started during his Air Force days while a choir director in a Klamath Falls, Oregon, church and to write a second book that he has already outlined with a Jesus-like animal to help all those near the animal. The work on this current book has been ongoing for over three years and was completed to bring out God’s story from its initiation until the Glorious Future, as told by this book, God’s Complete Story.
