Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of the "divine sabotage" is the starting point for this expositional journey through Ecclesiastes. Dan Lioy notes that on the one hand, God has "set eternity in the human heart" (Eccl 3:11a). Yet on the other hand, "no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end" (Eccl 3:11b). God has imposed limitations on the human race that undermine human efforts to look beyond the present-especially to understand the past or probe into the future. Expressed differently, because people are creatures of time, their heavenly imposed finitude subverts their ability to fathom the eternal plan of God. The preceding observations help pinpoint why existence often seems vague, incongruous, and antithetical. People are left feeling confused, powerless, and frustrated. And somewhere along the way, they begin to ask what life is really all about. Solomon, who was Israel's wisest and most powerful king, also wrestled with these issues, and he recorded his observations and conclusions in the book of Ecclesiastes. Lioy's objective, balanced, and affirming examination of Solomon's treatise indicates that the fundamental quality of life is defined by revering God and heeding His commandments (Eccl 12:13). He notes that if human existence is likened to a cord made of three strands (an analogy based on Ecclesiastes 4:12), it remains coherent and interconnected when God is at the center of one's inner world, at the core of one's understanding of the external world, and the basis for the significance one derives from life. This volume is appropriate for personal study and is also suitable as a college and seminary textbook.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A diagnosis of a stage IV cancer is quite a jolt for any family. This is the news that came to Jeff Wisdom, a husband and father in his mid-forties. When the diagnosis of an advanced cancer comes to a family, it can challenge faith and hope. Through the Valley is a biblical-theological reflection on suffering. It details what Scripture says about suffering and what God has promised, both now and in the future. It draws comfort and encouragement from some lessons learned. And it acknowledges and wrestles with some unresolved questions and issues. Jeff's reflections, as one who has endured cancer and chemotherapy, help to bridge Scripture's message and the experience of living with a deadly disease. Excerpts from his wife's journal are included to provide a window into this walk in a dark valley. This book does not address every aspect of the Bible's teaching on suffering, but it makes an important contribution to the topic of the suffering that comes seemingly unexplained as the result of living in a fallen world.

Book excerpt: Faithful, Focused Commentary on the Whole Bible Serious students of Scripture can easily lose their focus among the many Bible commentaries available today, studying for hours yet discovering no meaningful application of God's eternal truth. This one-volume commentary on the entire Bible from one of America's foremost Bible expositors offers instead a minilibrary of understandable resources designed to convey the Bible's overarching message with historical and theological clarity. Pastor and teacher John MacArthur covers the complete Bible—every passage of the Old and New Testaments, phrase by phrase—in this valuable one-volume resource. Hundreds of additional study tools complement the commentary, such as Word studies Charts, graphs, and brief articles Overviews of each major division of the Bible Introductions to each biblical book A summary of essential Christian theology Special sections on Jesus's life and ministry Harmonies of historical writings Guidance in studying, applying, and teaching God's Word Readers benefit from the coherence a single commentator provides, finding faithful, understandable, and relevant resources for any passage from the entire Bible. Consistent elements include exploring God's character; seeing Christ in all Scripture; and identifying key doctrines, vital people, and touchstone Scripture passages. The MacArthur Bible Commentary offers pastors, Bible teachers, serious Bible readers, and anyone seeking to read and understand the Scriptures a way to focus their studies while still seeing the entire Bible's application to the Christian life.

Find out in a verse-by-verse explanation of Daniel Chapter 11, as you discover who the kings of the North and the South are from before Jesus' day throughout the last days. You will benefit from paying attention to Daniel’s prophecy about the battle between the two kings? Taken together, the Bible books of Daniel and Revelation not only identify eight kings but also show the sequence in which they would appear. We can explain those prophecies.

Book excerpt: Hundreds of millions of Christians around the world lack the basic knowledge of the Bible's teachings. Moreover, they are, therefore, unable to take advantage of the full happiness of partaking in joint worship of God; they need to have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil, they need to leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and move on to maturity. This book has been penned for that very purpose, to help all Christians to increase and expand their understanding of God's Word and to apply it more fully in their lives. In the Bible, you can interact with a living God, who wants a personal relationship with you. And in Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life you will learn how to engage His words like never before. Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life creates the opportunity to grow in faith and knowledge through practical chapters that will help you grow in the faith, overcome the difficulties that Satan's world will throw at you, and maintain your relationship with the one and only true God. You will learn to observe, understand, and apply the Bible to transform your life. Help yourself, your family, and friends, as well as your brothers and sisters around the world by sharing a link to Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life with them. Stacey Roberts , "I am so grateful to have had a chance to preview this book before it was published, because it has truly helped me to appreciate the Bible far more than ever before in my life. I have never seen so many Scriptures used in any Christian publication. The beauty is that they are quoted right there in the book. Truly, this book will be helpful to all who want to discern the intentions of their heart. It will move everyone to an active faith and help them to see the significance of their relationship with God in their words, in their actions, where they fall short, and especially in their heart attitude. In a word, this is the best book on Christian life that I have ever read, and the information is already helping me to progress toward being a better Christian. Words fail me in my effort to tell you how much I appreciate having had a chance to preview this book!"--Review from a reader Brenda Kinsey, "This book has taught me so much, which has given me guidance that is really encouraging. It has categorically given me a longing for more spiritual knowledge."--Review from a reader Richard Martin, "Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life has proven to be something special. What a magnificent help in developing our Christian maturity! The way in which it is written offers us to use our minds truly in harmony with the Bible. This is exactly what has been missing."--Review from a reader

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Paul instructed Timothy to preach the word! . . . 'Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching' (2 Tim. 4:2). This instruction is in keeping with the principle reflected in the book of Acts that the proclamation of God's Word is the heart of corporate worship. Yet in many churches, preaching is in decline under the influence of a culture that prefers entertainment to exposition. In this volume, fourteen experienced preachers reaffirm the centrality of preaching in the life of the church as they explore what the Scriptures have to say about the mandate, meaning, motivation, and method of preaching. With wisdom and conviction, the authors remind the church that God works through the faithful preaching of His Word, no less in the twenty-first century than in the first. To resist the lure of social media comparisons and see through those carefully curated posts and pictures? In the Grateful study guide, Elizabeth McQuoid takes us through the Scriptures and shows how gratitude is a heart attitude which every Christian needs to cultivate and the key to consistent daily discipleship and mission involvement. These seven Bible studies feature prayers, questions and leaders’ notes as well as ideas for going further. Drawing on the theme for Keswick 2022 and acting as a companion volume to Peter Maiden’s Radical Gratitude, Grateful shows that it is possible to be thankful for God’s salvation, gifts and love no matter what our circumstances. Part of the Keswick Study Guide series, Grateful is ideal for using either individually or in small groups, including both stories and personal application to help you make the most of its studies in every day life. The leaders’ notes also make it perfect for the busy homegroup leader. Practical and insightful, Grateful is a brilliant resource for anyone wanting to understand Biblical teaching on gratitude better or wanting to know how we can being practice being grateful whatever might come our way.
