Moving swiftly after taking the oath of the highest office in the land, she enacts a clever method of outlawing several types of common weapons. The courts are instantly overwhelmed while Congress remains in complete gridlock, disabled by infighting and party loyalty. Book excerpt: Im no hero, no matter what people say. After all, you cant be a hero if you despise those that youre protecting. The way that I look at it, what I am is a matter of circumstance: I gave up dresses and skirts the day I watched my parents die. I was eight years old, and was mauled and scarred by the creature that killed them. If it hadnt been for the intervention of a half insane blacksmith I would have perished beside them. I survived, but was infected by the Blackness. My face was tattooed when I was sixteen to hide my scars, and I started training under the brutal tutelage of one of the most skilled killers to ever walk the Outer Rims shortly thereafter. He battered me for years, teaching me how to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible. Not people, mind you. No, we trained to kill Ferals; the white skinned, black eyed monsters that killed my parents and so many others. There are still a few who object to what my pack and I do. They think that- since Ferals used to be human- we owe them some sort of sympathy. I dont think that deeply into it. I just kill them, and when the Blackness is roaring through me and I have my spear in my hand, Im really good at it. I know all the old wives tales about princes and princesses; everyone has a happily ever after. But this is my story, and theres nothing happy or beautiful about it. You can call me Maqui, and its an understatement to say that I have staggering anger issues.

Competition for resources is intense, as these walled bastions of civilization develop draconian policies and employ ruthless security forces to protect their way of life. With his family barely holding on, Clay discovers a new threat. For his family to survive, he will have to embark on a dangerous path that will test all his courage and skills.

This book was released on 2011-09-02 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee warn of a potential commercial disaster over animal welfare regulations that could result in unfair competition for UK egg producers. New rules are designed to improve conditions for caged ('battery') hens. The Welfare of Laying Hens Directive (Council Directive 1999/74/EC), which applies to businesses with over 350 laying hens, provides that conventional cage systems must not be used after 1 January 2012. After this date, caged hens must be kept in 'enriched' cages, which have more living space per hen (750 cm2 cage area per hen compared to 550 cm2 in conventional cages - less than an A4 sheet of paper), a nest, perching space, litter to allow pecking and scratching, and unrestricted access to a feed trough. But around one third of Europe's egg production will not comply with the new welfare standards by 2012. UK egg producers have spent around £400 million to improve conditions for laying hens, and will be left at a competitive disadvantage if cheaper, illegal and non-compliant shell eggs and egg products can be imported to the UK from other European countries. The UK Government must press for an intra-community trade ban on the export of non-compliant eggs and egg products, and the EU Commission should initiate infraction proceedings against Member States where caged egg producers remain non-compliant. Failure to enforce this new Directive effectively will set a worrying precedent for other legislation intended to improve the welfare of farm animals.
