Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction For some people, there will be an instant meaning in many of my sentences. I hope that throughout my book, many readers will be able to relate to each passion I have personally encountered, moments of joy, true passions of love, where hate has a very fine line, wrapped up in great distinctions hanging between the very depth of love and hate itself, blind, with so many strong emotions, on just one thought. In my case, I have been there many times, each one different from the last, never knowing on that first impact to which side your emotions will rest on. Part of us never want to believe we could ever lose someone so close to us, our whole being aches with so much grief and despair, you never want to feel anything again; but emotions are there! Each one of us feel all these emotions in a different way. For me, that sudden impact of emotions flow through my body, racing through each part of me. Feelings that are wrwpped up in mixed emotion; that is when I need to set all these emotions on paper. Into verses of poems, in writings, words, simple, but describing each emotion perfectly the way I feel, so imprinted in my thoughts, hoping to feel some release. Those that will read my words will understand the many impacts emotions has had in much of my life. I would like to share these feelings and thoughts in hope that in some way, you can relate to that experience of true emotions of mind, heart, and soul. In an understanding of true life. Sharing those thoughts with someone, the ones we all keep close to our hearts, possibly never, put them out in the open. I for one believe each emotion we encounter is a heartfelt impression of who we are! In return, the person you become . . . By believing in yourself! Just emotions on paper.

Book excerpt: Sixteen-year-old Alex Lambrose has just moved from San Francisco to Highland Ridge, North Carolina, an isolated town located deep in the Great Smoky Mountains. The move appears to be a dull trade off until his two new friends, Corbin Henley and Zane Fletcher, divulge a ghoulish legend about a witch named Hephzibah Dunnagan. Curious about the witch and her supposed demise, the boys head toward Dunnagan’s Peak with only an antiquated map to guide them. Exploring the abandoned village for clues about the witch seems like harmless fun for the boys until Alex mysteriously uncovers an eighteenth-century journal hidden within the walls of Hephzibah’s cabin. After he makes the precarious decision to stash the book in his backpack and keep it a secret, Alex must decide what to do with it. As he reads the entries, Alex not only uncovers the dark reality surrounding the legend but also his own shocking connection to Highland Ridge. Now only one question remains: what is he going to do about it?

Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER · INSTANT INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER From Dr. Nicole LePera, creator of "the holistic psychologist"—the online phenomenon with more than two million Instagram followers—comes a revolutionary approach to healing that harnesses the power of the self to produce lasting change. As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole LePera often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual wellness that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist” was born. Now, Dr. LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world. In How to Do the Work, she offers both a manifesto for SelfHealing as well as an essential guide to creating a more vibrant, authentic, and joyful life. Drawing on the latest research from a diversity of scientific fields and healing modalities, Dr. LePera helps us recognize how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood live with us, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep us stuck engaging in patterns of codependency, emotional immaturity, and trauma bonds. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviors can quickly become cyclical, leaving people feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and unwell. In How to Do the Work, Dr. LePera offers readers the support and tools that will allow them to break free from destructive behaviors to reclaim and recreate their lives. Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental wellness and self-care.

Book excerpt: Fantagraphics is proud to present a major, all-new book by Gary Panter. Songy of Paradise is an inspired interpretation of John Milton’s retelling of the story of Jesus being tempted by Satan after being baptized by John the Baptist and fasting for forty days and nights in the Judaean Desert. Panter’s version doesn’t rely on Milton’s words, but faithfully follows the structure of Milton’s Paradise Regained, with one notable exception: Jesus has been replaced by a hillbilly, Songy, who is on a vision quest before being tempted by a chimeric Satan figure. Gary Panter is one of America’s preeminent artists, designers, and cartoonists, whose work defined the L.A. punk scene and the vibrant work of the television show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. Songy of Paradise presents Panter’s singular vision in an ornate, hardcover format that does justice to Panter’s densely packed pages, with a stunning two-color stamping on cloth covers. It will be an art object, a brilliant literary experiment, and the most eye-popping graphic novel of 2017.

Book excerpt: Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times bestselling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!" The good news is that in Soundtracks, Acuff offers a proven plan to change overthinking from a super problem into a superpower. When we don't control our thoughts, our thoughts control us. If our days are full of broken soundtracks, thoughts are our worst enemy, holding us back from the things we really want. But the solution to overthinking isn't to stop thinking. The solution is running our brains with better soundtracks. Once we learn how to choose our soundtracks, thoughts become our best friend, propelling us toward our goals. If you want to tap into the surprising power of overthinking and give your dreams more time and creativity, learn how to DJ the soundtracks that define you. If you can worry, you can wonder. If you can doubt, you can dominate. If you can spin, you can soar.

Book excerpt: A Wall Street Journal bestseller! *** We've all been there: stuck in a cycle of what-ifs, plagued by indecision, paralyzed by the fear of getting it wrong. Nobody wants to live a life of constant overthinking, but it doesn't feel like something we can choose to stop doing. It feels like something we're wired to do, something we just can't escape. But is it? Anne Bogel's answer is no. Not only can you overcome negative thought patterns that are repetitive, unhealthy, and unhelpful, you can replace them with positive thought patterns that will bring more peace, joy, and love into your life. In Don't Overthink It, you'll find actionable strategies that can make an immediate and lasting difference in how you deal with questions both small--Should I buy these flowers?--and large--What am I doing with my life? More than a book about making good decisions, Don't Overthink It offers you a framework for making choices you'll be comfortable with, using an appropriate amount of energy, freeing you to focus on all the other stuff that matters in life.
