This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Vol. 2: 1836-1844 The reception that Volume 1 of the Church History met from the members of the church and their friends greatly encouraged the Board of Publication to urge forward the second volume. The work of selection, compilation, and arrangement was continued diligently, Apostle Heman C. Smith giving faith ful attention to this part of the work, aided at separate stages by the committee of examination and revision. The second volume covers the difficult period between 1836 and the death of the presidents and martyrs, Joseph and Hyrum Smith, in 1844. It was found so impracticable with the original design of furnishing an authentic and reliable history, and complete it in two volumes, that the Board decided it to be better to do the work thoroughly, though it should require a third volume to make it what the completed work should be. It is in this spirit and intention that the Board takes pleasure in placing in the hands of its patrons Volume 2 of the Church History. There really was no particular thing out there that he de sired; but he grew to believe that somewhere in the world there was a work for him to do and that work was with his father's church. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1805-1890, Vol. 4: 1872-1890 With the publication of this the Fourth Volume of Church History we reach a point Of time wherein the events of the history are well known to many now living, and hence the events that follow may be supplied readily by those who were participants in the actions of the church both publicly and privately. It will not be necessary to publish another vol ume of the history for some years; and in the meantime the work may be taken up by others and our connection with this department may cease. We therefore take this occasion to say that though the work has been a perplexing one, and the. Care and responsibility of it have weighed heavily upon our minds at times, we have taken pleasure in preparing these volumes; and we are not only pleased but surprised that we have received so little adverse criticism on the work done. We are conscious, however, that our work has not been perfect. We have Often been perplexed amid the con fusion of dates and relation of events to get at the facts. We have understood it to be our duty to chronicle events as they occurred without reference to whom they reflected upon or justified. Download or read book A Brief History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Brief History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: From the Birth of the Prophet Joseph Smith to the Present Time The following pages contain a brief history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In order that the reader may obtain a clear understanding of the principles of the gospel, in connection with the history of the people who have been instrumental in establishing it, references have been made freely to the Book of Doctrine and Covenants containing the revelations of the Prophet Joseph Smith for the building up of the Kingdom of God in the last days. In conjunction with his own experience, the author has gathered his facts, in sketching these main outlines of the faith, work, travels and persecutions of the Saints, from a large number of reliable authorities on the subject. Accuracy has been aimed at, as well as completeness as far as the limited space would allow. The volume is designed, first, to create an interest in the marvelous work of God, as exemplified in and through the Mormons, in the minds of the youth of Israel, to whom a knowledge of the faith, toils and sacrifices of the founders of this great, latter-day religious fabric is absolutely indispensable. Secondly, there is a large class of persons who desire a glimpse of the story of Mormonism, but who have no time to read the more ponderous books thereon; such, it is believed, will find just what they need in these pages.
