Book excerpt: Call out to God...when fear is present: The shadow was moving behind the curtain again, wafting here and there. It looked so human, like someone was standing on the other side of the glass. Lord, I am afraid. Maybe it is nothing, but I can't sleep. I'm too afraid to look for myself. Respond to God...when He is speaking to you: Back outside he picked up the gas pump handle and started filling up the car. Then he heard it: "That's the one. Tell her." Startled, he looked around. Who was talking? The words seemed sharp, firm, commanding. There was no one around him. "Tell her Terence." Yes, it was Him. Release to the Lord...those secrets that haunt you: Selena had kept her secret for many years...There were days when she wanted to confide in her close friends but fear of their judgment kept her silent. Jackie Reid has been story telling since her pre-teen days. As a young teenager she wrote her first book, creating the illustrations. With a vivid imagination and love for reading, many of her stories have come from personal life lessons. Becoming a Christian at age 12, she was active in a Christian youth group called "Youth Ranch" where many young people were led to Christ. She has stayed active in youth ministry throughout her life; currently serving as a youth counselor, and leading worship music. Raising three teenagers of her own with her husband, Mike, and being a mom to seven exchange students, her life has been enriched with youth. Her love for the Lord and desire to see young people know Him and His solutions to life's problems is what has helped inspire her to write this book.

Book Synopsis Just. You. Wait. by : Tricia Lott Williford
Download or read book Just. You. Wait. written by Tricia Lott Williford and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everybody waits. We wait for a spouse, wait for a baby, wait on our children, wait for our parents. We wait for clarity and direction. We wait on a job, a promotion, a new direction. We wait for hope, for healing, and for miracles. We wait on God. And when we misunderstand what waiting is about, we can get confused about what God is up to. Waiting is one of God’s favorite tools. He can do certain things in our hearts, our lives, and our relationships while we wait—things we cannot experience once we’ve opened the gift we have been waiting for. So just you wait, because everyone takes their turn in the waiting room. It’s a long and painful fact of life, but shortcuts and microwaves aren’t the answer. God is at work behind the scenes in invisible ways you can’t see . . . yet. Just you wait and see how ready you’ll be if you spend your waiting well. Because when your opportunity comes, you don’t want to spend more time on the bench. When you wait well, you can say, “Look out, world: I am getting ready to shine. Just you wait.” In these pages, Tricia discusses the joy hidden in the discipline of waiting, and the practices of believing God is for you and working on your behalf, even when the work of His hand is hard to find.

Book excerpt: Would you like to grow in life-giving ways as you age? Do you have the courage to let go of former ways of thinking to receive God's love and life in new ways? As we age, we experience the loss of physical stamina, independence, and career fulfillment. Yet within each of these losses is a holy invitation to grow. God calls us to let go of our need for accomplishment and embrace the gift of fruitfulness so that we might be transformed in this final season of our lives. In Aging Faithfully, spiritual director Alice Fryling explores how to navigate the journey of retirement, lifestyle changes, and new limitations. In this season of life, we are invited to hold both grief and hope, to acknowledge ways of thinking that no longer represent who we are, and to receive peace in the midst of our fears. We all age differently, and God calls each of us to new spiritual birth as we mature. When we embrace the aging process, we grow closer to God and experience his grace as he renews us from within. Whether you are approaching the beginning, middle, or end of your senior years, you are invited. Come and be transformed. Aging Faithfully includes questions for group discussion and suggestions for personal meditation.

You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
