This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been prepared under the auspice of the European Low Gravity Research Association (ELGRA). The main task of ELGRA is to foster the scientific community in Europe and beyond in conducting gravity and space-related research. This publication is dedicated to the science community, and especially to the next generation of scientists and engineers interested in space research and in the means to use Earth to reproduce the space environment. ELGRA provides a comprehensive description of space conditions and the means that have been developed on Earth to perform space environmental and (micro-) gravity related research. .The book covers ground-based research instruments and environments for both life and physical sciences research. It discusses the opportunities and limitations of protocols and instruments to compensate gravity or simulate microgravity, such as clinostats, random positioning machines, levitating magnets, electric fields, vibrations, tail suspension or head down tilt, as well as centrifuges for hyper-g studies. Other space environmental conditions are addressed too, like cosmic radiation or Mars atmospheric and soil properties to be replicated and simulated on Earth. Future long duration of manned missions, personal well-being and crew interaction are major issues dealt with.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the pioneering glider flights of Otto Lilienthal (1891) to the advanced avionics of today’s Airbus passenger jets, aeronautical research in Germany has been at the forefront of the birth and advancement of aeronautics. On the occasion of the centennial commemoration of the Wright Brother’s first powered flight (December 1903), this English-language edition of Aeronautical Research in Germany recounts and celebrates the considerable contributions made in Germany to the invention and ongoing development of aircraft. Featuring hundreds of historic photos and non-technical language, this comprehensive and scholarly account will interest historians, engineers, and, also, all serious airplane devotees. Through individual contributions by 35 aeronautical experts, it covers in fascinating detail the milestones of the first 100 years of aeronautical research in Germany, within the broader context of the scientific, political, and industrial milieus. This richly illustrated and authoritative volume constitutes a most timely and substantial overview of the crucial contributions to the foundation and advancement of aeronautics made by German scientists and engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a snapshot of the state-of-art in the field of turbulence modeling and covers the latest developments concerning direct numerical simulations, large eddy simulations, compressible turbulence, coherent structures, two-phase flow simulation and other related topics. It provides readers with a comprehensive review of both theory and applications, describing in detail the authors’ own experimental results. The book is based on the proceedings of the third Turbulence and Interactions Conference (TI 2012), which was held on June 11-14 in La Saline-les-Bains, La Réunion, France and includes both keynote lectures and outstanding contributed papers presented at the conference. This multifaceted collection, which reflects the conference ́s emphasis on the interplay of theory, experiments and computing in the process of understanding and predicting the physics of complex flows and solving related engineering problems, offers a practice-oriented guide for students, researchers and professionals in the field of computational fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling and related areas.
Book Synopsis Mathematics and War by : Bernhelm Booß-Bavnbek
Download or read book Mathematics and War written by Bernhelm Booß-Bavnbek and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics has for centuries been stimulated, financed and credited by military purposes. Some mathematical thoughts and mathematical technology have also been vital in war. During World War II mathematical work by the Anti-Hitler coalition was part of an aspiration to serve humanity and not help destroy it. At present, it is not an easy task to view the bellicose potentials of mathematics in a proper perspective. The book presents historical evidence and recent changes in the interaction between mathematics and the military. It discusses the new mathematically enhanced development of military technology which seems to have changed the very character of modern warfare.
Book Synopsis Contributions to the Development of Gasdynamics by : Klaus Oswatitsch
Download or read book Contributions to the Development of Gasdynamics written by Klaus Oswatitsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since airplane speeds started to approach the speed of sound, the study of compressible flow problems attracted much talent and support in the major indus trialized countries. Today, gas dynamics is a mature branch of science whose many aspects and applications are much too numerous to be mastered by a single person or to be described in a few volumes. This book commemorates the 70th birthday of a great pioneer and teacher of gas dynamics, Dr. Klaus Oswatitsch, Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Technical University of Vienna and former Director of the Institute for Theoretical Gas Dyna mics, Deutsche Forschungs-und Versuchsanstalt fUr Luft-und Raumfahrt. Several reasons motivated us to prepare an English translation of Oswatitsch's selected sci entific papers. First, we hope that a book containing his major papers will be wel come as a valuable reference text in gas dynamics. Oswatitsch's work is frequently used in the literature in one form or another, but it is usually quite time-consuming for the English speaking reader to consult the original texts. As a result, reference to and understanding of his papers is often incomplete. For example, Oswatitsch's formulation of the equivalence rule hardly ever is quoted in recent textbooks, al though it preceded declassification of Whitcomb's results by several years. Further more, his papers contain much information, which has not yet been fully appreciated in the Anglo-American literature.
