Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Application, Volume 24: Decentralized/Distributed Control and Dynamic Systems, Part 3 of 3 is the third volume of a trilogy that deals with advances in techniques for the analysis and synthesis of decentralized or distributed control and dynamic systems. It also includes articles on many computational issues and techniques. This volume discusses parameter estimation or determination in large-scale systems; use of system zeros in the decentralized control of large-scale systems; and model reference adaptive control for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The final chapters present some simplified but highly effective and powerful control techniques for decentralized but coordinated control systems. Book Synopsis Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems by : Javad Mohammadpour
Download or read book Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems written by Javad Mohammadpour and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-23 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complexity and dynamic order of controlled engineering systems is constantly increasing. Complex large scale systems (where "large" reflects the system’s order and not necessarily its physical size) appear in many engineering fields, such as micro-electromechanics, manufacturing, aerospace, civil engineering and power engineering. Modeling of these systems often result in very high-order models imposing great challenges to the analysis, design and control problems. "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" compiles state-of-the-art contributions on recent analytical and computational methods for addressing model reduction, performance analysis and feedback control design for such systems. Also addressed at length are new theoretical developments, novel computational approaches and illustrative applications to various fields, along with: - An interdisciplinary focus emphasizing methods and approaches that can be commonly applied in various engineering fields -Examinations of applications in various fields including micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), manufacturing processes, power networks, traffic control "Efficient Modeling and Control of Large-Scale Systems" is an ideal volume for engineers and researchers working in the fields of control and dynamic systems.
Book Synopsis Directions in Large-Scale Systems by : Y. Ho
Download or read book Directions in Large-Scale Systems written by Y. Ho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the record of papers presented at the Conference on Directions in Decentralized Control, Many-Person Optimization, and Large-Scale Systems held at the Colonial Hilton Inn, Wakefield, Massachusetts from September 1-3, 1975. Our motivation for organizing such a conference was two fold. Firstly, the last few years have seen a great deal of activity in the field of Large-Scale Systems Theory and it has been certainly one of the dominant themes of research in the disciplines of Systems and Control Theory. It therefore seemed appropriate to try and take stock of what had been accomplished and also try to "invent"l the future directions of research in this field. Secondly, the 6th World IFAC Conference was being held in Cambridge, Massachusetts the week earlier and it provided an ideal opportunity for taking advantage of the presence of a large number of specialists from all parts of the world to organize a small conference where a free exchange of ideas could take place. It is left to the readers of this volume to judge to what extent we have been successful in our above mentioned goals. There is no accepted definition of what constitutes a "large scale system" nor what large-scale system theory is. While this diversity does suggest that the field {whatever it may turn out to be} is in a state of flux, it does not necessarily imply chaos.

Book Synopsis Variable Gain Control and Its Applications in Energy Conversion by : Chenghui Zhang
Download or read book Variable Gain Control and Its Applications in Energy Conversion written by Chenghui Zhang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-02-24 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variable gain control method is a new construction technique for the control of nonlinear systems. By properly conducting state transformation that depends on the variable gains, the control design problem of nonlinear systems can be transformed into a gain construction problem, thus effectively avoiding the tedious iterative design procedure. Different from the classical backstepping method and forwarding design method, the structure of variable gain control is simpler in the sense that fewer design parameters are required, facilitating the improvement of system control performance. To highlight the learning, research, and promotion of variable gain control, Variable Gain Control and Its Applications in Energy Conversion is written based on the research results of peers at home and abroad and combining our latest research. This book presents innovative technologies for designing variable gain controllers for nonlinear systems. It systematically describes the origin and principles of variable gain control for nonlinear systems, focuses on the controller design and stability analysis, and reflects the latest research. In addition, variable gain control methods applied to energy conversion are also included. Discussion remarks are provided in each chapter highlighting new approaches and contributions to emphasize the novelty of the presented design and analysis methods. In addition, simulation results are given in each chapter to show the effectiveness of these methods. It can be used as a reference book or a textbook for students with some background in feedback control systems. Researchers, graduate students, and engineers in the fields of control, information, renewable energy generation, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, and others will benefit from this book.

Book Synopsis Constrained Optimal Control of Linear and Hybrid Systems by : Francesco Borrelli
Download or read book Constrained Optimal Control of Linear and Hybrid Systems written by Francesco Borrelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-09-04 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many practical control problems are dominated by characteristics such as state, input and operational constraints, alternations between different operating regimes, and the interaction of continuous-time and discrete event systems. At present no methodology is available to design controllers in a systematic manner for such systems. This book introduces a new design theory for controllers for such constrained and switching dynamical systems and leads to algorithms that systematically solve control synthesis problems. The first part is a self-contained introduction to multiparametric programming, which is the main technique used to study and compute state feedback optimal control laws. The book's main objective is to derive properties of the state feedback solution, as well as to obtain algorithms to compute it efficiently. The focus is on constrained linear systems and constrained linear hybrid systems. The applicability of the theory is demonstrated through two experimental case studies: a mechanical laboratory process and a traction control system developed jointly with the Ford Motor Company in Michigan.
