Download or read book Measure Guideline written by Lois Arena and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combination of a gas-fired condensing boiler with baseboard convectors and an indirect water heater has become a common option for high-efficiency residential space heating in cold climates. While there are many condensing boilers available on the market with rated efficiencies in the low to mid 90% efficient range, it is imperative to understand that if the control systems are not properly configured, these heaters will perform no better than their non-condensing counterparts. Based on previous research efforts, it is apparent that these types of systems are typically not designed and installed to achieve maximum efficiency (Arena 2010). It was found that there is a significant lack of information for contractors on how to configure the control systems to optimize overall efficiency. For example, there is little advice on selecting the best settings for the boiler reset curve or how to measure and set flow rates in the system to ensure that the return temperatures are low enough to promote condensing. It has also been observed that recovery from setback can be extremely slow and, at times, not achieved. Recovery can be affected by the outdoor reset control, the differential setting on the boiler and over-sizing of the boiler itself. This guide is intended for designers and installers of hydronic heating systems interested in maximizing the overall system efficiency of condensing boilers when coupled with baseboard convectors. It is applicable to new and retrofit applications.
Book Synopsis Building Systems for Interior Designers by : Corky Binggeli
Download or read book Building Systems for Interior Designers written by Corky Binggeli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-01-21 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first desk reference on technical building systems for interior designers Building Systems for Interior Designers is the first book to explain technical building systems and engineering issues in a clear and accessible way to interior designers. The technical knowledge and vocabulary presented here allow interior designers to communicate more effectively with architects, engineers, and contractors while collaborating on projects, leading to more accurate solutions for problems related to a broad range of other building considerations with an impact on interior design. Information on sustainable design is integrated throughout the book, making it a relevant tool for current and emerging trends in building design. Written in a straightforward, nontechnical style that maintains depth and accuracy, this book is the first complete text applicable to interior design courses and provides thorough preparation for the NCIDQ exam. Engaging, clear illustrations support the text, which is accessible to those without a math or physics background. Topics covered include: Heating and air conditioning systems Environmental issues Water and waste Thermal comfort HVAC systems Electricity Lighting Security and communications systems Fire safety Transportation systems With numerous case examples illustrating how interior designers apply this material in the real world, Building Systems for Interior Designers is a valuable book for students, as well as a practical desktop reference for professionals. Content from this book is available as an online continuing professional education course at http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-320255.html#fire_safety. WileyCPE courses are available on demand, 24 hours a day, and are approved by the American Institute of Architects.

Book Synopsis Energy Audit of Building Systems by : Moncef Krarti
Download or read book Energy Audit of Building Systems written by Moncef Krarti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-20 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing awareness of energy use-and waste-places additional onus on building managers, operators, and engineers, already bearing considerable responsibility for operating cost containment. Fortunately, research, technological developments, and practical experience provide a number of procedures and techniques that can make a significant impact on a building's energy use and expense. Energy Audit of Building Systems offers a systematic, engineering approach to a wide range of measures and opportunities for saving energy and reducing operating costs in both residential and commercial buildings. The author first provides general tools and procedures for performing building energy audits, including economic analysis, utility rate structures, and building energy simulation. His focus then turns to various subsystems, exploring the techniques and technologies that can reduce energy use or operating costs. Each chapter includes simplified calculation methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of various efficiency measures. Other books on energy efficiency and management are either out of date or offer only qualitative descriptions of energy conservation measures. Energy Audit of Building Systems incorporates the latest energy efficiency technologies, precise calculation procedures, and virtual step-by-step guidelines on evaluating, analyzing, and improving upon energy efficiency in buildings.
