Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Torrance's wide-ranging, innovative study argues that the spiritual quest is rooted in our biological, psychological, linguistic, and social nature. The quest is not, as most have believed, a rare mystical experience, but a frequent expression of our most basic human impulses. Shaman and scientist, medium and poet, prophet and philosopher, all venture forth in quest of visionary truths to transform and renew the world. Yet Torrance is not trying to reduce the quest to an "archetype" or "monomyth." Instead, he presents the full diversity of the quest in the myths and religious practices of tribal peoples throughout the world, from Oceania to India, Africa, Siberia, and especially the Americas. In theorizing about the quest, Torrance draws on thinkers as diverse as Bergson and Piaget, van Gennep and Turner, Pierce and Popper, Freud, Darwin, and Chomsky. This is a book that will expand our knowledge—and awareness—of a fundamental human activity in all its fascinating complexity.

Book excerpt: Within the West African cultural spirituality of the Yoruba, Ela is known as the Spirit of Light and Manifestation meaning all things came into existence here on Ikole Aye (Earth) by way of Ela. Ela can also be summarized as the Holy Spirit of Ifa and interchangeably used as another name for Orunmila Elerin Ipin Ibikeji Olodumare (Orunmila, Withness of Creation, Second to the Creator). It is by way of Ela that Ifa became acceptable throughout the world and Orunmila accepted by followers, including followers in secret. In “Ela, The Ifa Concept of Altered States”, Awo Falokun opens the dialogue once again on how devotees can continue to seat Ifa in the West. His approach to the subject of Ela is not the way, but a way to create and maintain Extended Family and Community. Knowledge of Ela and the Orisa is not enough – through the possession (spiritual access to the wisdom) of Ela, Ifa devotees can begin to heal ourselves of the negative influences of the Western World View, past and present, and heal the Ifa Community and the world around us.In this book, Awo Falokun teaches that the basis of Traditional Yoruba Spirituality is Good Character, which is accessible through Ela, and how it is essential to go into possession with the Spirit of Orunmila in order to maintain good character and banish the negative forces that create ori buruku, i.e., gossip, jealousy, lying, stealing, violence, etc.

We setup an ancestor alter and faithfully make offerings and discuss our daily happenings, wishes, needs, and dreams. All too often through lack of knowledge from our elders, neglect or lack of communication the door to ancestor communication stays shut. Not because of anything we have done, but what we have not done.We need to open the door into that previously forbidden realm. Know and trust, without fear, a communication with our ancestors... not just a one way monologue, but that two way dialogue, that lets you have a vehicle for knowledge, healing, and informed advice from our long forgotten ancestors.Baba Falokun provides the tools necessary to kick that door open; by using Oriki we can open a door to a level of communication not previously available. As we follow the guide and chant the Oriki for the ancestors to mount the medium, we begin to hear the voices of the past repeating the words with you. Welcome them, the words are thousands of years old and still used today. This is a tool that opens the portals of another dimension. Use them, our ancestors walk with us; don't lose the opportunity to receive a communication. These are a must for anyone doing or wishing to communicate with the other side.

Book excerpt: Oya is the Spirit of the Wind in the West African religious tradition called "IFA." The word Oya is the name given to describe a complex convergence of Spiritual Forces that are key elements in the IFA concept of change. Those Spiritual Forces that form the foundation of Oya's role in the Spirit Realm relate to the movement between dynamics and form, as it exists throughout the Universe. According to IFA, dynamics and form represent the polarity between the forces of expansion and contraction. Together these forces create light and darkness, which in turn sustains and defines all that is. Accor4ding to IFA, it is the interaction between light and darkness that generates the physical universe and it is Oya who keeps this interaction in a constant state of flux and motion.

Book excerpt: How do I learn my purpose in life? What does God want for me? How can I fulfill my potential? While Awo Falokun Fatunmbi touched on Ifa's perspective of these issues in previous books, in Ori he covers them on a whole new level. The Ifa Model of Consciousness fills holes in Western models of Self/Higher Self/God and empowers living a life fully aligned with our higher self and spirit. The illusion of separation is stripped away and the obvious truth becomes clear: We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Ori offers tools to incorporate these deep understandings into a balanced life filled with all of the blessings that were intended us from the womb. Joy, Love, Children, Health & Wealth are our Spiritual rights. Unlike some Faiths which may see them as distractions, Ifa sees these earthly blessings as symptoms of living in alignment with spirit. Learn to have these symptoms too!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspiring firsthand account of one woman’s journey into African shamanism and the mysteries of the most sacred animal on the continent: the legendary White Lion In 1991, Linda Tucker was rescued from a pride of lions in the Timbavati game region by a medicine woman known as the “Lion Queen.” So began Linda’s lifelong journey into the wisdom and ceremonies of Old Africa, in which humans and lions are able to cross the species barrier. Such knowledge is in accordance with the most guarded secrets of Ancient Egypt and humankind’s greatest riddle, the Sphinx. Scientists in our day have established that humankind’s most significant evolutionary leap occurred as a result of our ancestors’ interaction with great cats. The White Lion is a genetic rarity within Panthera leo, and occurred in just one region on Earth: Timbavati. Today, White Lions form the center of the notorious “canned” trophy-hunting industry—hand-reared captive lions, shot in enclosures for gross sums of money. By contrast, shamans believe that killing a “lion sun god” is the ultimate sacrilege. How the human species treats such precious symbols of God in nature may determine how nature treats the human species. Whether we view them as prophetic “Lions of God” or simply as rare genetic mutations, the story of the White Lions is a true legend unfolding in our own extraordinary times. Inspiring, captivating, and thoroughly researched, Mystery of the White Lions is an unforgettable portrait of these magnificent beasts and of the overwhelming love that has driven Linda's every action to save them. “Through understanding the White Lion we will understand ourselves and our great role in the chain of being.” —Deepak Chopra

This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year AD 973 marked the rise of Kalyana Chaluka power in Andhra, followed by a period of wars between the Kalyana Chalukyas and the Cholas of Thanjavur for over a century. The decline of these powers made way for the rise of Velanati Chodas, the Nellore Chodas and the Kakatiyas in Andhradesa; the Yadavas in the upper deccan; and the Hoysalas south of the Tungabhadra river. From the middle of the twelfth century the Kakatiyas became the dominant power, and Warangal emerged as the premier cultural and political center. The Kakatiyas consolidated their power by defeating defiant feudatories and bestowing administrative power on loyal subordinates, and by entering into matrimonial alliances with families of conquered local chieftans. Under their rule different social groups migrated to the coastal Andhra region from the neighbouring Tamil country, resulting in the creation of new sub-sects. Further, social groups came to be named on the basis of local identity, such as the Pakanati and Velanati brahmins, the Penugonda vaisyas, and the Panta and Pakanati reddis, to mention a few. Based on a centralized bureaucracy, the Kakatiya state could be broadly characterized as feudal. The mainstay of the economy was agriculture and there was a substantial increase in irrigation facilities. Trade flourished under a system of guilds and led to the growth of a number of urban centers. The institution of the temple gained significance, facilitated by royal patronage. Buddhism witnessed a decline even as Sri Vaishnavism and Vira Saivism gained ground, and Andhradesa came to be known as Trilinga - the land of the three Saivite shrines at Kalesvaram, Srisailam, and Draksharama. In architecture the vesara mode flourished under the Kakatiyas, while the phamsana form was popular in the construction of monuments in the Telangana region. In the field of language and literature, the Telugu script underwent significant changes, and classical Telugu literature developed with the translation of the Mahabharata by Nannaya Bhatta, and the rise to eminence of several Telugu poets and writers.
