Book excerpt: Warning: It is essential to read the trilogy in the correct order – FEDERATION; FEDERATION & EARTH; and finally HIDDEN FEDERATION. Alien university professor and author, Yol Rummy Blin Breganin, continues his research on the planet Earth. He introduces, into this final volume, some stories from the distant past of the Federation, which provide a greater insight into the vast alien empire. In the only free and independent part of the planet Earth – the United States of America – the populace is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the growing authoritarianism. With California in revolt, can the USA retain its own independence in this rebellious climate? Elsewhere on Earth, in the Federation territories, is life becoming too comfortable for the ordinary humans? Will the world be allowed to settle down to its life of luxury or will it turn the new utopia into hell as it has always done in the past? The final part of the Federation Trilogy contains the answers.

Book excerpt: The author wishes to make it very clear that this book has nothing to do with Star Trek. Recent review: 5 stars "A fascinating combination of science and politics this is a thrilling read." - wondrous science fiction for the thinking person! FEDERATION takes close encounters to a whole new level. An oft-used and laughed about sentence is when an alien arrives and asks, "Take me to your leader!" What if this really happened? Who is the leader? There is no world leader - only many individuals who would like to be. Federation takes the answer seriously and so begins a trilogy which has compared with Foundation with aliens. A galactic empire of a quarter of a million worlds stumbles across the Earth. With elements of a political thriller, there is an intriguing storyline which addresses the environmental and myriad social problems faced by the world today. The aliens’ philosophy on life is totally unexpected. With the help of intelligent automatons, they've turned what many on Earth believe to be a reviled political system into a utopia for the masses, but are they a force for good or evil, and will the wealthy make the compromises needed for a successful outcome? A Daragnen university professor, Yol Rummy Blin Breganin, discovers that Earth failed in its attempt to join the Federation, and, for some unknown reason, members are forever banned from visiting or contacting the planet. Rummy had never heard of a whole world being outlawed. Perhaps it would be sensible to leave well enough alone but no, he decides to investigate… FEDERATION is the first in a trilogy of near-future, hard science-fiction novels by Tony Harmsworth, the First Contact specialist. Submerge yourself in humankind’s cultural and economic dilemma. Get FEDERATION today.

Book excerpt: THREE BOOKS FOR THE PRICE OF TWO (816 pages) FEDERATION Complete Trilogy - is controversial, political, near-future science fiction for the reader who enjoys using their own imagination to think about how the world might react to real alien contact from vastly advanced civilisations. When the first volume was released, it became the subject of vitriolic hatred by readers of a particular political persuasion who seemed incapable of understanding that they were reading a speculative and imaginative story. Instead, they believed the stories were actually a political treatise, and wrote angry reviews which clearly showed that they failed to grasp the difference between fiction and fact. They were patently incapable of working out what would happen to our economic system when automatons became capable of carrying out all work, faster, more efficiently, more cheaply and more accurately than humankind. With the exception of the billionaire cybernetic business owners, everyone else had to starve, or exist on government or charitable handouts. The author suggests that anyone unable to understand this simple fact of life finds something else to read. The Galactic Federation had, during hundreds of thousands of years, managed to overcome all of the problems and sentient beings lived in utopia. They did not achieve that without facing the same violent and corrupt power struggles which come to Earth in this trilogy. Federation (book 1) speculates what would happen when an ambassador from a peaceful alien Federation asks to be taken to our leader. Who would that be? There is no world leader. The ramifications of the request lead to fudged responses. They, in turn, result in civil unrest and shocking violent events on Earth, as the problems which would inevitably be created by cheap and efficient automatons are applied to our political and economic structures. As a result of events in book 1, Federation and Earth (book 2) finds the Earth banned from all space exploration. A dictatorial US president, backed by the military, shuts the USA off from the rest of the world. A new UN secretary general tries to mediate, while a group called FREE AMERICA, begin to challenge the oppressive administration. Will the Federation be no more than interested observers or might they break their own rules and offer a helping hand? Hidden Federation (book 3) begins with an interim solution. With the exception of United States of America, who will follow a free and independent path, the rest of the world joins the Galactic Federation. More problems arise as California declares UDI and the American crisis deepens. Meanwhile, the million year history of the alien civilisations is revealed, and readers discover how they dealt with the very same problems which applied to the newly fragmented Earth. Although set in today’s world, this trilogy provides a fascinating insight into one possible future for the Earth, once automatons become ubiquitous and sentient. Free thinking, open-minded readers have loved the individual books. This eight hundred page combined volume offers all three volumes for the price of two. Buy it today.

After the dramatic and unexpected turn of events at the end of the first book, Earth is left with several factions trying to resolve the situation. The new president of the USA is attempting to secure his hold on power, while a new group who have named themselves FREE AMERICA, is seeking to overthrow what it considers an illegitimate regime. Elsewhere, the new Secretary General of the United Nations is working with the smaller Security Council to try to bring the rest of the world together after the events at the end of the book one. Can the aliens be convinced to provide help or are they just going to watch from orbit? Take a care. You won't enjoy this story unless you are open to political concepts which could never work on Earth as it was before the trilogy began i.e. now. However, If you like speculative fiction, open your mind and enjoy the adventure. This book is like Marmite [look it up], you will either love it or hate it!

Book excerpt: This volume explains how Star Trek allows viewers to comprehend significant aspects of Georg Hegel’s concept the absolute, the driving force behind history. Gonzalez, with wit and wisdom, explains how Star Trek exhibits central elements of the absolute. He describes how themes and ethos central to the show display the concept beautifully. For instance, the show posits that people must possess the correct attitudes in order to bring about an ideal society: a commitment to social justice; an unyielding commitment to the truth; and a similar commitment to scientific, intellectual discovery. These characteristics serve as perfect embodiments of Hegel’s conceptualization, and Gonzalez's analysis is sharp and exacting.

This book shows that Hitler had his own version of the SOE and the OSS, and that the Nazis too encouraged underground resistance against their enemies, especially as Europe was liberated in 1944-5.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how the Star Trek franchise does more than reflect and depict the political currents of the times. Gonzalez argues that Star Trek also presents an argument as to what constitutes a just, stable, thriving society. By analyzing Star Trek, this book argues that in order to obtain true democracy and justice the productive forces of society must be geared toward achieving a thriving society, the whole individual, and the environment. This dialectic is consonant with the notions of revolutionary change, progress postulated by Karl Marx and examined within this text. The book concludes that the only way to hope to avoid a planetary cataclysm is through justice—more specifically, communism as a concept of justice.

Book excerpt: Through dramatic incidents tells for the first time the full story of the development of Cold War naval intelligence from the end of WWII to the breakup the Soviet Union in 1991, from both sides, East and West. Unlike other accounts, which focus on submarine confrontations and accidents, the authors cover all types of naval intelligence, human collection (racing with the Soviets to capture Nazi subs, successful and losing spies and defectors), signal intelligence (surface, air, satellite and navy commando teams in balaclavas launched by speed boats from subs), acoustic (passive underwater arrays and tapping phone lines), and the aerial and space reconnaissance. The authors give details of operations in all these areas, some of which were witnessed first hand. "A new light is shed on the spy ships incidents of the 1960s and on submarine intrusions in Swedish waters. Excerpts of the Soviet Navy instructions on UFOs and accounts of Soviet naval encounters with unexplained objects are also published for the first time outside of Russia; and much more."
