Darüber hinaus wird das Werk „Malleus Maleficarum“ nach Heinrich Kramer und Jacob Sprenger in einen Zusammenhang mit dem weiblichen Feindbild gesetzt. Ferner wird sich dem ersten Strafgesetzbuch gewidmet, der Constitutio Criminalis Carolina. Sie schuf erstmalig eine rechtliche Grundlage für die systematische Durchführung von Hexenprozessen. Im Weiteren wird sich mit der sogenannten Hexenprobe und der peinlichen Befragung befasst. Schlussendlich wird der Begriff „Erinnerung“ aufgegriffen, wobei dieser sich an der Frage orientiert: Wie erinnert man sich heute noch an die frühneuzeitliche Hexenverfolgung in Deutschland?

Dabei liegt auch ein Augenmerk darauf, ob der Hexenhammer als Hauptursache oder Teilursache für den Hexenwahn zu sehen ist. Das Wort "Salem" ist noch heute ein Synonym für Hexenverfolgung, Massenhysterie, Hinrichtungen unschuldiger Menschen und Wahnsinn. Lange nachdem die Hexenverfolgungen in Europa ein Ende nahmen, kam es in Salem, Massachusetts im Jahre 1692 zu einem außergewöhnlichen Ereignis: Zwischen Januar und November wurden als Resultat unzähliger Anschuldigungen und Prozesse 144 Personen der Hexerei beschuldigt und 20 öffentlich hingerichtet. Noch immer stellt es somit ein einzigartiges Ereignis in der Kolonialgeschichte Nordamerikas dar, fasziniert die Menschen und wirft Fragen nach Gründen auf. Wie kam es 1692 in Salem zu dieser Massenhysterie und irrationalen Beschuldigung unzähliger unschuldiger Menschen, insbesondere Frauen? Historiker haben seit jeher unterschiedlichste mehr oder weniger stichhaltige Thesen aufgestellt, welche von einem Versagen des Gouverneurs über die Panik wegen ständiger Angst vor Indianerangriffen bis zu Halluzinationen der Ankläger aufgrund einer Vergiftung durch Mutterkorn reichen. Die zweite Hausarbeit befasst sich mit diesen Theorien. Hexenverfolgungen und -prozesse fanden vorrangig in der Frühen Neuzeit statt. Exemplarisch für diese Zeit soll in der dritten Arbeit das Beispiel der Maria bzw. Dorothea Braun herausgegriffen werden. Anhand dieses Hexenprozesses sollen sowohl die sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Einflüsse dieses Zeitalters auf Hexenverfolgungen gezeigt werden als auch die Wirkung des 'Hexenhammers' auf den Prozess. Der Mythos um Jeanne d'Arc geht, seit sie in Erscheinung trat, um die Welt und beschäftigt sowohl Laien als auch Wissenschaftler. Entgegen dem Forschungstrend, sich mit den Rezeptionsrollen Jeanne d'Arcs zu befassen, soll die vierte Arbeit einen Ansatz bieten, der zeigt, dass der vermeintliche Hexenprozess in Wahrheit ein politisches Instrument war, um sich der unbequemen Jeanne zu entledigen.

Der 1487 erschienene Hexenhammer dient als Quellengrundlage, speziell ist hier das 6. Kapitel des 1. Buches anzuführen. In diesem Auszug wird die Frau als Nutzerin von Hexerei und definitive Täterin gesehen. Grundlegende Literatur zu diesem Thema bieten Ingrid Ahrendt-Schulte und andere, die hier Anwendung finden. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit soll es sein, eine Antwort auf die Frage zu finden, warum die Frau eine Täterin und kein Opfer der Hexenverfolgung war. Das Thema ist unter anderem in der Frauenforschung aktuell, da die Vorstellung einer Täterin eine Gegenbewegung zum Opfergedanken darstellt. Der Hauptteil ist besteht aus einer Quellenanalyse und einer Quelleninterpretation. Die Analyse ist in vier Aspekte unterteilt, die Einteilung des weiblichen Geschlechts in zwei Wesen, welche Frauen anfällig für das Hexensein zu sein schienen, die Mängel von Frauen und die Gründe für die Hexenausbreitung. Der zweite Teil befasst sich mit der Interpretation eines speziellen Aspektes: die Frau als Chimäre, eine Metapher für den Zwiespalt der frühneuzeitlichen Frau.

Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?
