Book Synopsis If Is the Only Peacemaker by : Greg Maillet
Download or read book If Is the Only Peacemaker written by Greg Maillet and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-06-13 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Is the Only Peacemaker explores the drama of Shakespeare through a cultural lens that can be shown to be central to the formation of this theatrical art: fourteenth- to sixteenth-century Catholic Humanism. Part I of this book traces this tradition through key figures in Medieval and Renaissance Humanism, including Dante, Chaucer, Erasmus, and Thomas More. The latter two, especially, convey Catholic Humanism to Shakespeare’s England, and help to establish a rhetorical ideal: the union of eloquentia and sapientia, of wit and wisdom. Part II then closely reads one of Shakespeare’s major comedies, As You Like It, through this ideal, finding in this play an outstanding example of the Catholic Humanist rhetoric central to Shakespeare’s art. This part of the book also mingles rhetorical and performance criticism, citing six different productions of As You Like It.

Book Synopsis ''Amen, I Say to You'' by : Clyde A. Bonar
Download or read book ''Amen, I Say to You'' written by Clyde A. Bonar and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-11-06 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amen, I Say to You includes homilies for Cycles A, B, and C of the liturgical year, and a homily for each Holy Day of Obligation within the Roman Catholic Church. Each homily consist of three main points with supporting examples and illustrations. These are homilies I have preached, and they have been constructed with attention to verbal presentation. Another homilist easily should be able to substitute or include examples from his or her own pastoral or lived experience within the conceptual structure each homily provides. These homilies are not essays; they include no long, convoluted, hard to understand sentences. I try for simplicity of words and sentences, for concrete language everyone can understand. Feedback from posting some of the homilies on the internet has characterized the homilies as well planned, with ideas placed in a logical and precise order. They have been called simple, personal, and practical; very inspired and insightful; containing deep reflection and authentic Christian faith; and illustrative, applied and down to earth practical.

Book Synopsis Spenser's Anatomy of Heroism by : Maurice Evans
Download or read book Spenser's Anatomy of Heroism written by Maurice Evans and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1970-07-02 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a study of Spenser's conception of the nature of heroism and the way it is embodied in the separate books of The Faerie Queene. Professor Evans stresses the coherence of Spenser's scheme of virtues and examines the fusion of Christian symbol and classic myth through which the underlying Christian theme is expressed. He emphasises the didactic purpose of the poem, and the rhetorical method by which the allegory works upon the reader. It is his contention that Spenser completed his poem, and that The Faerie Queene as it stands presents an organic unity so firmly controlled that it is unprofitable to consider any book, canto or even single verse isolation from the poem as a whole. The complexity of the poetry which this study reveals suggests that Spenser has much in common with the metaphysicals, while the subtle dissection of human motive and behaviour within the poem would place him in closer relationship to the drama than is normally recognised.

Download or read book Terrapsychological Inquiry written by Craig Chalquist and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrapsychological Inquiry is a qualitative research methodology seeking a form of inquiry that takes seriously our intense inner responses to the state of the natural world. Terrapsychology is a theory and practice approach that studies, from the standpoint of lived experience, how the world gets into the heart. Oceans and skies, trees and hills, rivers and soils, and even built things like houses, cities, ports, and planes: How do they show up for us inwardly? How do our moods, feelings, and dreams reflect what happens in the world? Terrapsychological Inquiry evolved over a decade of experimentation by graduate students, instructors, workshop leaders and presenters, and other embodied creatives to offer a truly Earth-honoring mode of story-based qualitative inquiry, one that changes all involved from passive spectators of the doings of the world into active, sensitive participants. Learn how to use this methodology of reenchantment in a variety of settings inside and outside academia, and by doing so reenter an animate world. Written in an engaging and accessible style, this introduction to a new research methodology will be of great interest to students and scholars of environmental psychology, ecotherapy, and environment and sustainability studies more generally.
Book Synopsis Medieval Literature by : Dominique Battles
Download or read book Medieval Literature written by Dominique Battles and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book-length exploration of the type-scenes of western medieval literature from the ninth to the fifteenth centuries, spanning both the Latinate and Germanic traditions. Type-scenes are the recurring, stock scenes comprising the basic structure and cognitive guidance for narrative. These formulaic scenes enabled medieval poets to express originality while honoring tradition. Central to medieval poetic invention, type-scenes form the vital “internal organs” of narrative, each serving a specialized function while working in concert with other organs to create and sustain the story. This accessible and engaging guide to medieval type-scenes consists of three parts: Part I is a compendium of the type-scenes commonly found in medieval narrative, including analyses of examples from individual poems. Part II explores combinations of type-scenes within single works of literature for purposes of chronology, characterization, or virtuosity. Part III examines how a single type-scene manifests across multiple poems, adapting to a variety of settings and periods, while maintaining its original intent. This volume kindles in scholars, teachers, and students alike a new and refreshing awareness of the foundational narrative strategies of medieval literature.
