Book excerpt: This is the proceedings of the ICM2002 Satellite Conference on Algebras. Over 175 participants attended the meeting. The opening ceremony included an address by R Gonchidorazh, former vice-president of the Mongolian Republic in Ulaanbaatar. The topics covered at the conference included general algebras, semigroups, groups, rings, hopf algebras, modules, codes, languages, automation theory, graphs, fuzzy algebras and applications.
Book Synopsis Representation Theory of Algebras by : Raymundo Bautista
Download or read book Representation Theory of Algebras written by Raymundo Bautista and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ICRA VII was held at Cocoyoc, Mexico, in August 1994. This was the second time that the ICRA was held in Mexico: ICRA III took place in Puebla in 1980. The 1994 conference included 62 lectures, all listed in these Proceedings. Not all contributions presented, however, appear in this book. Most papers in this volume are in final form with complete proofs, with the only exception being the paper of Leszczynski and Skowronski, Auslander algebras of tame representation type, that the editors thought useful to include.
Book Synopsis Algebras and Modules II by : Idun Reiten
Download or read book Algebras and Modules II written by Idun Reiten and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 43 research papers demonstrate the application of recent developments in the representation theory of artin algebras and related topics. Among the algebras considered are tame, bi- serial, cellular, factorial hereditary, Hopf, Koszul, non- polynomial growth, pre-projective, Termperley-Lieb, tilted, and quasi-tilted. Other topics include tilting and co-tilting modules and generalizations as *-modules, exceptional sequences of modules and vector bundles, homological conjectives, and vector space categories. The treatment assumes knowledge of non- commutative algebra, including rings, modules, and homological algebra at a graduate or professional level. No index. Member prices are $79 for institutions and $59 for individuals, which also apply to members of the Canadian Mathematical Society. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Book Synopsis Finite Dimensional Algebras by : Yurj A. Drozd
Download or read book Finite Dimensional Algebras written by Yurj A. Drozd and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This English edition has an additional chapter "Elements of Homological Al gebra". Homological methods appear to be effective in many problems in the theory of algebras; we hope their inclusion makes this book more complete and self-contained as a textbook. We have also taken this occasion to correct several inaccuracies and errors in the original Russian edition. We should like to express our gratitude to V. Dlab who has not only metic ulously translated the text, but has also contributed by writing an Appendix devoted to a new important class of algebras, viz. quasi-hereditary algebras. Finally, we are indebted to the publishers, Springer-Verlag, for enabling this book to reach such a wide audience in the world of mathematical community. Kiev, February 1993 Yu.A. Drozd V.V. Kirichenko Preface The theory of finite dimensional algebras is one of the oldest branches of modern algebra. Its origin is linked to the work of Hamilton who discovered the famous algebra of quaternions, and Cayley who developed matrix theory. Later finite dimensional algebras were studied by a large number of mathematicians including B. Peirce, C.S. Peirce, Clifford, ·Weierstrass, Dedekind, Jordan and Frobenius. At the end of the last century T. Molien and E. Cartan described the semisimple algebras over the complex and real fields and paved the first steps towards the study of non-semi simple algebras.

Book Synopsis $\textrm {C}^*$-Algebras and Finite-Dimensional Approximations by : Nathanial Patrick Brown
Download or read book $\textrm {C}^*$-Algebras and Finite-Dimensional Approximations written by Nathanial Patrick Brown and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: $\textrm{C}*$-approximation theory has provided the foundation for many of the most important conceptual breakthroughs and applications of operator algebras. This book systematically studies (most of) the numerous types of approximation properties that have been important in recent years: nuclearity, exactness, quasidiagonality, local reflexivity, and others. Moreover, it contains user-friendly proofs, insofar as that is possible, of many fundamental results that were previously quite hard to extract from the literature. Indeed, perhaps the most important novelty of the first ten chapters is an earnest attempt to explain some fundamental, but difficult and technical, results as painlessly as possible. The latter half of the book presents related topics and applications--written with researchers and advanced, well-trained students in mind. The authors have tried to meet the needs both of students wishing to learn the basics of an important area of research as well as researchers who desire a fairly comprehensive reference for the theory and applications of $\textrm{C}*$-approximation theory.
Book Synopsis The Concise Handbook of Algebra by : Alexander V. Mikhalev
Download or read book The Concise Handbook of Algebra written by Alexander V. Mikhalev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is by no means clear what comprises the "heart" or "core" of algebra, the part of algebra which every algebraist should know. Hence we feel that a book on "our heart" might be useful. We have tried to catch this heart in a collection of about 150 short sections, written by leading algebraists in these areas. These sections are organized in 9 chapters A, B, . . . , I. Of course, the selection is partly based on personal preferences, and we ask you for your understanding if some selections do not meet your taste (for unknown reasons, we only had problems in the chapter "Groups" to get enough articles in time). We hope that this book sets up a standard of what all algebraists are supposed to know in "their" chapters; interested people from other areas should be able to get a quick idea about the area. So the target group consists of anyone interested in algebra, from graduate students to established researchers, including those who want to obtain a quick overview or a better understanding of our selected topics. The prerequisites are something like the contents of standard textbooks on higher algebra. This book should also enable the reader to read the "big" Handbook (Hazewinkel 1999-) and other handbooks. In case of multiple authors, the authors are listed alphabetically; so their order has nothing to do with the amounts of their contributions.
