Book Synopsis Hereditary Models for Airfoils in Unsteady Aerodynamics by : J. A. Burns
Download or read book Hereditary Models for Airfoils in Unsteady Aerodynamics written by J. A. Burns and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is concerned with the development of a general mathematical model for the motion of a two-dimensional airfoil in unsteady aerodynamics and with the study of numerical schemes for estimating parameters in this model. The equations of motion are a set of coupled ordinary and functional differential equations. Approximating Wagner functions are used to construct state space models that retain the hereditary nature of unsteady fluid flow. The results of some simple numerical experiments are presented including a preliminary analysis of wind-tunnel data. (Author).

Book Synopsis Semi-Empirical Model for Prediction of Unsteady Forces on an Airfoil with Application to Flutter by : National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Download or read book Semi-Empirical Model for Prediction of Unsteady Forces on an Airfoil with Application to Flutter written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A semi-empirical model is described for predicting unsteady aerodynamic forces on arbitrary airfoils under mildly stalled and unstalled conditions. Aerodynamic forces are modeled using second order ordinary differential equations for lift and moment with airfoil motion as the input. This model is simultaneously integrated with structural dynamics equations to determine flutter characteristics for a two degrees-of-freedom system. Results for a number of cases are presented to demonstrate the suitability of this model to predict flutter. Comparison is made to the flutter characteristics determined by a Navier-Stokes solver and also the classical incompressible potential flow theory. Mahajan, Aparajit J. and Kaza, Krishna Rao V. Book Synopsis Unsteady Aerodynamics of a Flapping Airfoil by : Sunetra Sarkar
Download or read book Unsteady Aerodynamics of a Flapping Airfoil written by Sunetra Sarkar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the unsteady, viscous flow-field of an oscillating airfoil. This has ramifications on understanding the flapping flight of natural biological systems like fishes and invertebrates. It also helps towards a better aerodynamic design and understanding of flapping types MAVs. The flow-field simulation is performed with a grid-free Lagrangian particle based solver using vorticity particles. An examination of the unsteady aerodynamic load and the qualitative wake structures are done for airfoils undergoing pitch and plunge oscillations. The propulsive behavior is investigated at medium to high frequency ranges for different relevant parameters. These are amplitude of oscillation, mean angle of attack, and rotational axis location. Asymmetric sinusoidal motions are also examined. Dynamic stall is another important aspect of unsteady aerodynamics that airfoils and wings experience during their time dependent movement at large angles of attack. Insects use this phenomenon to increase the aerodynamic loads during their large angle flapping maneuvers. This aspect is also studied in this book.
