Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was an unseasonably cool night in late August when the old steam locomotive known as Engine No. 666 pulled into Union Station in downtown Chicago. A thick plume of smoke billowed from its smokestack as it let out a haunting whistle that echoed through the empty terminal. Despite it being nearly midnight, a small crowd had gathered on the platform to board the mysterious train with no posted destination. Among them was Liam, a 28-year-old stock trader who frequently rode the rails to clear his mind after long days at work. "All aboard!" bellowed a voice from inside the dimly lit passenger car. Liam stepped through the doorway into a wood-paneled railcar straight out of the 19th century. He took a seat beside an elderly woman clutching a tattered briefcase. "Where is this train headed?" Liam asked as the locomotive lurched forward with a teeth-rattling jolt. The old woman didn't respond, her milky eyes remaining transfixed out the window into the inky blackness. Liam shrugged it off as the train picked up speed, deciding he would enjoy the ride for as long as it lasted. As the train barreled through the night, Liam noticed other bizarrely anachronistic details. The gas lamps flickered with an otherworldly glow, as if burning not natural gas but the very fires of hell itself. The sound of the steam engine's churning echoed a guttural, demonic roar.

Download or read book One-Way Ticket written by Robert Currie and published by Coteau Books. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What begins as a look back at a different time in history quickly takes a dark turn in Bob Currie’s latest collection. Embodying a variety of characters, often in different voices – both those of well-known classic poets as well as the voices of Saskatchewan poets past and present – Currie ponders the collective human experience. With razor-sharp precision and telltale imagery, these poems explore domestic and public life: bad marriages, infidelity, poverty, gun violence, and in a final section, death – and how these experiences change (or don’t) between one generation and the next. Currie expertly combines seemingly innocuous poems – catching fish, discovering false breasts in a dresser – with more sinister and somber poems – murder, hiding from a gunman outside of a grocery store, bearing witness to the death of loved ones – with poignant candor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would you decide to experience the worst and anticipate the best when you qualify for the best of both worlds? Unfortunately many churches have persuaded a large portion of the Christian population to accept the prevailing thought process that pain and suffering is from God and is a Christian's way of life. This mindset has created a spiritual tsunami in the Christian community, and it is causing many Christians to experience hell on Earth. Salvation provides us with an equal opportunity to experience the best of both worlds. The benefits of salvation and Christianity are clearly laid out in the Bible, and the way to obtain these benefits is as important. In this book, Minister W. Pippens provides practical guidelines on how to receive and enjoy our earthly benefits of salvation and consequently avoid an earthly hell. Find out more in Living in Hell on Your Way to Heaven.

Book Synopsis Every Day's Metaphysucs by : Panos Sakelis
Download or read book Every Day's Metaphysucs written by Panos Sakelis and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-16 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reality and relative reality are two completely different things. The second is what we perceive with our senses and brain. Imagine now that between these two, there are other levels of understanding that if we manage and activate them, we do not reach the perception of absolute reality. Still, at least we have a better picture of what is happening. Such a level is offered to us by metaphysics, but we have to pay special attention to it because many illusions often enter it. But this level, which I personally refer to as the level of every day's metaphysics, is a relatively accessible way of understanding the truth that relativity once again encompasses our level of understanding. The collection of articles enclosed in this doctrine seeks, as honestly as possible, to take a look at the events that characterize the metaphysical veil of relative reality to assist the contemporary researcher in the more global perception of the individual and the world

Book Synopsis The New Atheist Crusaders and Their Unholy Grail by : Becky Garrison
Download or read book The New Atheist Crusaders and Their Unholy Grail written by Becky Garrison and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A challenge has been issued on matters of faith and Becky Garrison meets it head on in this witty yet poignant answer to the Anti-God gurus Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett. Becky Garrison, religious satirist and senior contributing editor for The Wittenberg Door, is taking a stand. Where most Christians assume the character of the Cowardly Lion chanting, "I do believe, I do believe, I do believe," Garrison refuses to simply thrust tracts at these self-proclaimed infidels. Instead, Garrison steels her pen and takes on the ungodly program of the New Atheists, skewering each argument with her sharp satiric wit. Garrison turns aside the atheists' assault without ignoring its real criticisms, namely, the church's inadequate response to war, evolution, medical ethics, social justice, and other important issues in the post-9/11 world.
