Book Synopsis Histories of Heinrich Schütz by : Bettina Varwig
Download or read book Histories of Heinrich Schütz written by Bettina Varwig and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bettina Varwig places the music of the celebrated Dresden composer Heinrich Schütz in a richly detailed tapestry of cultural, political, religious and intellectual contexts. Four key events in Schütz's career - the 1617 Reformation centenary, the performance of his Dafne in 1627, the 1636 funeral composition Musikalische Exequien and the publication of his motet collection Geistliche Chormusik (1648) - are used to explore his music's resonances with broader historical themes, including the effects of the Thirty Years' War, contemporary meanings of classical mythology, Lutheran attitudes to death and the afterlife as well as shifting conceptions of time and history in light of early modern scientific advances. These original seventeenth-century circumstances are treated in counterpoint with Schütz's fascinating later reinvention in nineteenth- and twentieth-century German musical culture, providing a new kind of musicological writing that interweaves layers of historical inquiry from the seventeenth century to the present day.

Book Synopsis Echoes from Heaven by : C. D. Hemingway
Download or read book Echoes from Heaven written by C. D. Hemingway and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-06-23 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not just poetry. It is a collection of writings, which contain several open dialogues with God. I dont claim to have any special abilities or direct link to God. Through adversity God has spoke to me and through my pain and tears God has made himself real to me. Through my backsliding God has taught me how to be real, and how to truly serve God in spirit and truth. I write about marriage as I have experienced things in my own and in other people marriages. The poem; lets just kiss and say goodnight, illustrates the struggles in so many marriages, where a sense of limbo lingers. You pray for help but what happens if the other person doesnt think there is a problem; or better yet what if the other person doesnt love you back. People can only love from where they are at in life. What you consider love might not be love to someone else. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I had enjoyed writing them. Be blessed.
Book Synopsis Echoes of the Most Holy by : Andre Reis
Download or read book Echoes of the Most Holy written by Andre Reis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Levitical Day of Atonement was a day of penitence, confession, and judgment for Israelites of loyal character and a day of covenant renewal for the nation of Israel. On this day, sin was removed from the tabernacle through the application of sacrificial blood to its altars and compartments, as well as by the dismissal of the goat for Azazel, which carried all the community’s sin to a “barren land.” As it became ingrained in the veil of Jewish consciousness, the Day of Atonement underwent a “process of abstraction” over many centuries leading up to Second Temple times, when the Most Holy Place lay devoid of the ark of the covenant and its mercy seat. Continuing to reverberate in the Jewish imaginaire, the Day of Atonement was received by the authors of the New Testament, including John of Patmos, to whom its sacrificial typology provided irresistible motifs which they used to proclaim “the Christ event.” By utilizing a coherent intertextual approach, this book explores how John wove the Day of Atonement into the colorful literary tapestry of Revelation.
