Book excerpt: Heaven fascinates us, yet we lack any empirical information about it. Why, despite our multiple faith traditions, does Heaven have such positive connotations for us all? Why, despite no tangible evidence, should autobiographies by authors who claim to have visited Heaven, usually through near death experiences, attract literally millions of readers? Why does virtually everyone, even non-believers, agree with the old adage that There is nothing better than Heaven? Since a picture is worth a thousand words, Heaven on My Mind will focus more on true stories than on explication. In this book, the author shows how the prospectively gathered spiritual and religious biographies of the men in Harvards legendary Study of Adult Development (The Grant Study) cast light upon the significance of faith and hope for love in Heaven in real lives. The author intends to show that putting the newly discovered concept of prospection together with our ancient faith in heaven allows us to understand the value of ruminating on an afterlife. Indeed, the life histories of the 184 men followed for their life-time in Harvards path-breaking Study of Adult Development faith in Heaven is significantly associated with leading more successful lives. Due to recent advances in neurophysiology, the study of prospection reflects a paradigm shift in our understanding of the human mind. Prospection reflects the fact that the brain combines incoming information with stored information to build mental representations of the external world. Dr. Seligman and his colleagues book, Homo Prospectus (2016) revolutionises modern psychology and supplants the past oriented psychology of Skinner, Freud and cognitive psychology with future oriented psychology suggested by this recently discovered neuroscience. It is prospection that allows us to fight the next war, not the last war. The author received a Templeton grant to study prospection by reanalysing The Harvard Study of Adult Development (The Grant Study). Since 1939, the landmark Grant Study has conducted a prospective in contrast to retrospective lifelong social and medical study of a cohort of healthy college males. In order to document whether religious affiliation increased over time, beginning at age 47, every 6 years the author, as the longtime Grant Study Director, has asked the men about the intensity of their religious affiliation and the degree of their belief in life after death. Heaven on My Mind uses these spiritual and religious biographies to illuminate the significance of faith and hope for Heaven. In short, Heaven on My Mind will reflect the natural history of the mens religious affiliation and their prospection of and their expectations about Heaven over the course of their lives. Admittedly, the Study surveyed a very narrow sample; it only studied the lives of 184 socially privileged, not very religious, Jewish and Christian men born around 1920. However, it is to the authors knowledge that this is the only study in the world to follow prospectively the religious development of human beings over a lifetime. As in time-lapse photography, all of the men visibly evolved; caterpillars were transformed into butterflies. The majority of men became more resilient, more mature and more open. For 40 years, readers have found such human transformations in the longitudinal studies of the authors books fascinating. The author believes Heaven on my Mind will be yet another major chapter in the research toward fully understanding the Study of Adult Development.

Book excerpt: This Broadway hit is based on the Amphitryon myth. Jupiter comes to Earth in human form to woo beautiful Alcemene, wife of Amphitryon. He appears to her in the body of her absent husband and quickly wins her love. Things go swimmingly until the real Amphitryon shows up. The chorus consists of Tom, Dick, Horace and the delightfully dizzy Dolores (who is only in the show because she is the wife of its financial backer.) -- Publisher's description.

Book excerpt: It's obvious from the bookshelves and the big screen that heaven is on everyone's mind. All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Bestselling author John Burke is no exception. For decades, he has been studying accounts of people who have had near-death experiences (NDEs). While not every detail of individual NDEs correlate with Scripture, Burke shows how the common experiences shared by thousands of survivors clearly point to the God of the Bible and the exhilarating picture of heaven he promises. Imagine Heaven is an inspirational journey through the Bible's picture of heaven, colored in with the real-life stories of heaven's wonders. Burke compares gripping stories of NDEs to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will it look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets? This book will propel readers into an experience that will forever change their view of the life to come and the way they live life today. It also tackles the tough questions of heavenly reward and hellish NDEs. Anyone interested in NDEs or longing to imagine heaven more clearly will enjoy this fascinating and hope-filled book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glen Kehr is sixty-one years old and a bachelor with no children. He lives in small-town America, New Paris, Indiana, with family and his beloved dog, Jacky Boy. He's a custodian at a high school. He's a Christian of twenty-eight years and a recovered alcoholic of twenty-seven years. He spends time on Facebook with family and friends. He loves music, especially Southern gospel, and likes to sing along. He would like to be a songwriter but doesn't play an instrument. His hobbies are reading the Bible and Christian literature every day, and now writing his first book––a book of Christian song poetry inspired by God, the Trinity, the Bible, and Southern gospel songs. Friends say he has an amazing talent for writing, but he says God gets the credit, that he just has the pen of a ready writer. He says he, too, is amazed at what God's given him to write. He decided to have the book published at the encouragement of his friends. He wants God to be glorified and people to be blessed by it, and if by chance the book doesn't sell, he still has the blessing of being a child of God's kingdom. He's looking to have a long, happy, and prosperous, working relationship with Christian Faith Publishing. This book is dedicated to my sister Ellen Higginbotham who is struggling with ALS disease.

Book excerpt: This is the author's belief: By preparing this book it'll be of great help to all its readers. He has anticipated his works will open doors that are closed to many people. He wants to put light where there is darkness. Most of all, his desires are to let people know this: God is our heavenly Father, the one who has great love for all living human being. This author knows that some people don't stop to think too much of God's goodness, then they can't see that God is the only true provider for every man/woman, who is upon this earth. All the same, God is! Owing to that, our duties are to fear and obey the Lord. That we can only do, by following Him to wherever He leads. We have to learn to put trust in His words. We have to learn to stand on His every promise. It's for our own good. This author however, is of the realization that there is a fair number of people who do not know what God's guide for us really is. Now all that, bothers this author, it is really troubling him very much, so much so, He decides to put it in writing. Then he says this: The only thing that can lead people to God - is by following the Lord's written words. If people truly grasp that, they will esteem God more. Hence, once God is being glorified, and He is pleased, it could enable Him to bless the entire world in a more abundant way. Again, this says the author: Despite the best of one's intention, it's hard to fix the entire world all by one's self. Yet he believes that many people, can do something to make it better. That's why - he tries to write part of what he has to offer in books. He sees it as his way of evangelizing - to help save souls that would be lost. Not just that, but his books are organized to comfort every one, especially those who are sad and lonely.
