Book excerpt: Dr. Malcolm Harris' two-volume history and genealogy of "Old" New Kent County (the three present-day counties in the aggregate) is one of the great achievements of Virginia local history of the last century. Clearfield Company is honored to have been selected by the Harris family to produce this hardcover edition of "Old New Kent County." Privately published and out of print for many years, this work takes on even greater importance in light of the loss of county records in New Kent and in King & Queen counties and the survival of mere fragments for King William County prior to 1865.

Book excerpt: "Heart: muscle, body organ (...) Earthquake: a sudden tremor (...)" Heartquake = A quake of the heart. Have you ever tried to get through a rift of the heart, and then you had to live with it? A rift caused by pain so strong, by disappointment, by a lie, by anger. A rift of the heart causes a strong quake from the outside that you cannot foresee. As a rift that opens in the ground after an earthquake, this rift couldn't possibly be healed. Heartquake is the story of a quake, not only literal, on the ground, a tremor given by the sudden shift of a rock mass but also of the heart. Heartquake by Oscar Travino talks about the innermost thoughts and aches and how they have been faced. It tells about a time of detention spent with your conscience to re-evaluate your life and to reason on how it could have gone better. Heartquake is a night of memories, imagination, and encounters, between what it was and what could have happened, between the time lost and the time not lived yet. While reading this story, retrace your footsteps, your journey in this life. You could experience confirmations, tears, and joys, by managing to understand and live again every feeling felt by the author, or you could simply get to know a new part of you through the eyes and experiences of someone else. If you want to try this new experience and improve your life, then "BUY NOW" and read Heartquake all at once, and you will see the world from a new perspective.

Book excerpt: "Poised between melancholy and yearning, this wry, moving, and beautifully crafted collection of stories is a rich and multilayered meditation on aloneness in all its complex shades and metamorphoses." – Tristan Hughes "A powerful and poetic new voice in the art of storytelling." – Selçuk Altun From Özgür Uyanık, novelist and film director, comes a debut collection of audacious, darkly wry and compassionate short stories. Driven by universal themes of desire, mortality, loss and yearning, each story evokes both the melancholy and the hope inherent in all stages of life, from childhood through to maturity. Artists, writers, lovers, killers: all types of men walk these pages, along the streets of Cardiff, İstanbul, London, Paris, Odesa and Lisbon. All seeking to find a way to belong in the world. Men Alone is a meditative vision from a unique voice that explores the many – often confounding – permutations of modern masculinity.

Book excerpt: The ability to trust and bond with another being nestles in the heart of our human experience, and when that ability is ruptured by repeated trauma in childhood, the wound (if untreated) can be long-lasting and life-limiting, particularly with regard to forming stable and loving adult relationships. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), first brought to the awareness of the general public in the 1957 movie The Three Faces of Eve, is increasingly understood as a child's "hiding-place-of-last-resort" when facing inescapable abuse. Formerly known as "multiple personality", DID is now regarded as more common than originally thought, affecting an estimated 1.5% of the population, predominantly females. HeartQuake is a story of love and loss, an intimate account of two young soldiers, lost in action on love's battlefield when barely adult, who after wildly dissimilar lives find each other again in middle age to discover that lightning can, indeed, strike twice. And still burns! For healing requires understanding, yet something else beyond... HeartQuake, finally, is an unforgettable story of the spirit's resilience and unending quest for wholeness.

A man has a mini-stroke and refuses to listen to his doctor, only to suffer a disabling stroke soon after. A physician recalls watching a tiny baby in the throws of a stroke, convulsing violently. A survivor rejoices after finally crossing the street before the pedestrian lights change back. Blending such highly personal and moving stories with crystal clear medical commentary based on first-hand clinical experience, Dr. Olajide Williams demystifies this potentially devastating illness and provides a roadmap to recovery. Indeed, Dr. Williams shows that the majority of strokes are not only preventable, but also treatable. Through compelling stories of patients, survivors and caregivers, woven together by easy-to-understand medical explanations, Dr. Williams provides practical tips on preventing strokes with specific lifestyle prescriptions, on recognizing the different forms of strokes, on managing symptoms after stroke, and on overcoming the psychological burden of stroke. He also reviews the new clot-busting treatments, which have dramatically improved the recovery rate of stroke victims. Combining cutting-edge medicine with the gripping stories of patients, survivors, family members, and physicians, Stroke Diaries strikes a blow against the current public health crisis in stroke.

This book was released on 2015-03-26 with total page 1033 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 33 Sermons 1938-2000 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

After trying unsuccessfully to escape, he had his men row out with the anchor, drop it as far into the sea as they could, and then the ship winched its way forward. The image of the church as a boat and tradition as an anchor is prevalent in Christian art. If we examine the biblical view of an anchor, we find, like Prince Madoc, we are to cast our anchor into the future and pull the church forward.Postmodern pilgrims must strive to keep the past and the future in perpetual conversation so every generation will find a fresh expression of the Gospel that is anchored solidly to “the faith that was once for all delivered.”
