Book Synopsis The Sheikh’s Marriage Bargain by : Leslie North
Download or read book The Sheikh’s Marriage Bargain written by Leslie North and published by Relay Publishing. This book was released on with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laila Tindall is only in Raihan to hone her pottery skills and visit her ailing grandfather. Marriage was never in the picture. But when her grandfather is tricked into signing a binding marriage contract to a man she finds repugnant, she has one choice: Run away. Her flight ends with a fortuitous meeting with Zayid Hasan, Crown Prince of Raihan, who offers the perfect solution to Laila’s predicament: marry him and solve both their problems. Zayid’s younger brother must marry his pregnant fiancé, and ancient laws dictate the oldest brother is required to marry first. Desperate for a way to protect both her grandfather and herself, Laila agrees. After all, their marriage will last only until Zayid’s brother can marry—and her marriage to the brooding, handsome prince isn’t much of a sacrifice. It’s not like she’s going to be foolish enough to fall in love… Zayid doesn’t know what to think about his new half-American wife. He doesn’t really want to think about her at all, but for some reason, he can’t stop himself. Strangely enough, all the royal functions that used to bore him silly are now entertaining with Laila by his side—even though he knows she’d much rather be alone creating her art. Though the marriage of convenience was his idea, he can’t help but start to wish it was the real deal. No way can he ignore the simmering chemistry that’s driving them both a bit crazy. He’s much better at ignoring what’s in his heart—until he realizes it just might break if he can’t convince Laila to stay with him forever…

Download or read book ISIS written by Michael Weiss and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revelatory look inside the world's most dangerous terrorist group. Initially dismissed by US President Barack Obama, along with other fledgling terrorist groups, as a “jayvee squad” compared to al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has shocked the world by conquering massive territories in both countries and promising to create a vast new Muslim caliphate that observes the strict dictates of Sharia law. In ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror, American journalist Michael Weiss and Syrian analyst Hassan Hassan explain how these violent extremists evolved from a nearly defeated Iraqi insurgent group into a jihadi army of international volunteers who behead Western hostages in slickly produced videos and have conquered territory equal to the size of Great Britain. Beginning with the early days of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the founder of ISIS’s first incarnation as “al-Qaeda in Iraq,” Weiss and Hassan explain who the key players are—from their elusive leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to the former Saddam Baathists in their ranks—where they come from, how the movement has attracted both local and global support, and where their financing comes from. Political and military maneuvering by the United States, Iraq, Iran, and Syria have all fueled ISIS’s astonishing and explosive expansion. Drawing on original interviews with former US military officials and current ISIS fighters, the authors also reveal the internecine struggles within the movement itself, as well as ISIS’s bloody hatred of Shiite Muslims, which is generating another sectarian war in the region. Just like the one the US thought it had stopped in 2011 in Iraq. Past is prologue and America’s legacy in the Middle East is sowing a new generation of terror.

Book excerpt: Aisha Shadari will do anything to assure her beloved kingdom, Kendah, is well run—even if that means marrying someone she doesn’t love. If she doesn’t marry within a year of her father’s death, the task of ruling the country will fall to her incompetent cousin. With time running out, Aisha needs someone who will let her be in charge, someone she can easily manage. Prince Nadim Hasan, the third son from the prosperous kingdom of Raihan, is her last hope, though he’s far from perfect. The man doesn’t seem to have a serious bone in his delicious body. But as they spend a week getting to know one another, she realizes there’s more to Nadim than she initially thought. And he just might be the husband she’s looking for… Nadim knows it’s time for him to grow up and do…something. But get married? That wasn’t on his radar. Spending a week with Aisha was really just a way to appease his parents, to show that he’s more than just an irresponsible playboy. In reality, though, that’s exactly what Nadim has been, and he’s not entirely sure he wants a change as drastic as marriage. But neither one of them can deny their perfect chemistry. The addition of an orphan baby to their tour of the country changes everything, and they start to feel like…family. When Aisha makes her case, offering him a loveless marriage just so she can save her country, he can’t agree. For him, it’s all or nothing. If they can’t get on the same page, they both risk losing everything.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In July 2006, with the commencement of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the longstanding secretary general of the "Party of God," burst into the spotlight of the Western media - cast, almost inevitably, as an even more dangerous incarnation of Osama bin Laden. Yet well before the start of the war, Nasrallah had acquired an almost unrivalled credibility in the Arab world among admirers and detractors alike, a profile that soared in May 2000 when he became the first leader to push Israel out of Arab land. Voice of Hezbollah brings to an English-speaking readership for the first time Nasrallah's speeches and interviews: the intricate, deeply populist arguments and promises that he has made from the mid-1980s to the present day. Newly translated from the Arabic, and with an introduction by one of the foremost writers on Lebanon, Voice of Hezbollah is critical to the understanding of the man and the movement.

Book Synopsis The Individual and the Authority Figure in Egyptian Prose Literature by : Yona Sheffer
Download or read book The Individual and the Authority Figure in Egyptian Prose Literature written by Yona Sheffer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Individual and the Authority Figure in Egyptian Prose Literature explores and analyses political conflicts between individuals and authority figures, as those conflicts are depicted in thirteen Egyptian novels written from 1957 to the last years of Mubarak's presidency. The book discusses the various reasons that lead an individual or a group of people from all strata of society (common people, intellectuals, and public figures) to confront policemen, senior security officials, and even the heads of the state. It further examines how the conflicts develop and what their outcomes are in the short term as well as in the long term, for both the individuals and the authority figures. In this context, the volume also examines the possibility of standing against an oppressive regime and even overcoming it. This text argues that while the authority figure initially subdues individuals who confront them, their victory is short term. In the long term, their cruelties bring about sown deaths, either by the individuals themselves or by their relatives. Furthermore, large assemblies of people can confront the regime with success. These discoveries, along with other findings presented in the book, remain relevant to the reality in the Middle East and the events leading to the Arab Spring.
