Book Synopsis Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems by : Franz J. Rammig
Download or read book Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems written by Franz J. Rammig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-09-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embedded systems are becoming one of the major driving forces in computer science. Furthermore, it is the impact of embedded information technology that dictates the pace in most engineering domains. Nearly all technical products above a certain level of complexity are not only controlled but increasingly even dominated by their embedded computer systems. Traditionally, such embedded control systems have been implemented in a monolithic, centralized way. Recently, distributed solutions are gaining increasing importance. In this approach, the control task is carried out by a number of controllers distributed over the entire system and connected by some interconnect network, like fieldbuses. Such a distributed embedded system may consist of a few controllers up to several hundred, as in today's top-range automobiles. Distribution and parallelism in embedded systems design increase the engineering challenges and require new development methods and tools. This book is the result of the International Workshop on Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems (DIPES'98), organized by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Groups 10.3 (Concurrent Systems) and 10.5 (Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems). The workshop took place in October 1998 in Schloss Eringerfeld, near Paderborn, Germany, and the resulting book reflects the most recent points of view of experts from Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and the USA. The book is organized in six chapters: `Formalisms for Embedded System Design': IP-based system design and various approaches to multi-language formalisms. `Synthesis from Synchronous/Asynchronous Specification': Synthesis techniques based on Message Sequence Charts (MSC), StateCharts, and Predicate/Transition Nets. `Partitioning and Load-Balancing': Application in simulation models and target systems. `Verification and Validation': Formal techniques for precise verification and more pragmatic approaches to validation. `Design Environments' for distributed embedded systems and their impact on the industrial state of the art. `Object Oriented Approaches': Impact of OO-techniques on distributed embedded systems. £/LIST£ This volume will be essential reading for computer science researchers and application developers.

Book Synopsis System-Level Synthesis by : Ahmed Amine Jerraya
Download or read book System-Level Synthesis written by Ahmed Amine Jerraya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: System-Level Synthesis deals with the concurrent design of electronic applications, including both hardware and software. The issue has become the bottleneck in the design of electronic systems, including both hardware and software, in several major industrial fields, including telecommunications, automotive and aerospace engineering. The major difficulty with the subject is that it demands contributions from several research fields, including system specification, system architecture, hardware design, and software design. Most existing book cover well only a few aspects of system-level synthesis. The present volume presents a comprehensive discussion of all the aspects of system-level synthesis. Each topic is covered by a contribution written by an international authority on the subject.
Book Synopsis Modeling, Verification and Exploration of Task-Level Concurrency in Real-Time Embedded Systems by : Filip Thoen
Download or read book Modeling, Verification and Exploration of Task-Level Concurrency in Real-Time Embedded Systems written by Filip Thoen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: system is a complex object containing a significant percentage of elec A tronics that interacts with the Real World (physical environments, humans, etc. ) through sensing and actuating devices. A system is heterogeneous, i. e. , is characterized by the co-existence of a large number of components of disparate type and function (for example, programmable components such as micro processors and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs), analog components such as AID and D/A converters, sensors, transmitters and receivers). Any approach to system design today must include software concerns to be viable. In fact, it is now common knowledge that more than 70% of the development cost for complex systems such as automotive electronics and communication systems are due to software development. In addition, this percentage is increasing constantly. It has been my take for years that the so-called hardware-software co-design problem is formulated at a too low level to yield significant results in shorten ing design time to the point needed for next generation electronic devices and systems. The level of abstraction has to be raised to the Architecture-Function co-design problem, where Function refers to the operations that the system is supposed to carry out and Architecture is the set of supporting components for that functionality. The supporting components as we said above are heteroge neous and contain almost always programmable components.
Book Synopsis On-Chip Interconnect with aelite by : Andreas Hansson
Download or read book On-Chip Interconnect with aelite written by Andreas Hansson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 212 pages. Book Synopsis Embedded and Networking Systems by : Gul N. Khan
Download or read book Embedded and Networking Systems written by Gul N. Khan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embedded and Networking Systems: Design, Software, and Implementation explores issues related to the design and synthesis of high-performance embedded computer systems and networks. The emphasis is on the fundamental concepts and analytical techniques that are applicable to a range of embedded and networking applications, rather than on specific embedded architectures, software development, or system-level integration. This system point of view guides designers in dealing with the trade-offs to optimize performance, power, cost, and other system-level non-functional requirements. The book brings together contributions by researchers and experts from around the world, offering a global view of the latest research and development in embedded and networking systems. Chapters highlight the evolution and trends in the field and supply a fundamental and analytical understanding of some underlying technologies. Topics include the co-design of embedded systems, code optimization for a variety of applications, power and performance trade-offs, benchmarks for evaluating embedded systems and their components, and mobile sensor network systems. The book also looks at novel applications such as mobile sensor systems and video networks. A comprehensive review of groundbreaking technology and applications, this book is a timely resource for system designers, researchers, and students interested in the possibilities of embedded and networking systems. It gives readers a better understanding of an emerging technology evolution that is helping drive telecommunications into the next decade.

Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Sixth Workshop on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2003), which was held in Prague, during April 3–5, 2003. The Hybrid Systems workshops attract researchers interested in the modeling, analysis, control, and implementation of systems which involve the interaction of both discrete and continuous state dynamics. The newest results and latest developments in hybrid system models, formal methods for analysis and control, computational tools, as well as new applications and examples are presented at these annual meetings. The Sixth Workshop continued the series of workshops held in Grenoble, France (HART’97), Berkeley, California, USA (HSCC’98), Nijmegen, The Neth- lands (HSCC’99), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (HSCC 2000), Rome, Italy (HSCC 2001), and Stanford, California, USA (HSCC 2002). Proceedings of these workshops have been published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in C- puter Science (LNCS) series. This year we assembled a technical program committee with a broad expertise in formal methods in computer science, control theory, applied mathematics, and arti?cial intelligence. We received a set of 75 high-quality submitted papers. After detailed review and discussion of these papers by the program committee, 36 papers were accepted for presentation at the workshop, and the ?nal versions of these papers appear in this volume.
